  1. You could try the config sources from the K menu K --> Configuration --> Packaging --> Software Media Manager You should find a listing for all three install CDs there. Choose one of them and click on edit: should look something like this ("cdrom1" is listed as such in my fstab): URL: removable://mnt/cdrom1/Mandrake/RPMS Relative path: ../../Mandrake/base/hdlist1.cz I believe this is one of those things that were flakey with the initial install, which is why there are plenty of updates you will need to install ASAP. Also be prepared for the dissappearing menu situation. hope this helps ya.
  2. The format should of only taken a few seconds. The format should of been complete before it rebooted. Did you try typing in "startx" at the prompt? I suspect its hung up on something seeing your activity light is a solid on. More info on what version your installing and hardware would help here. I believe the 9.x versions need at least 64 Mb of ram to get into a gui.
  3. Video Driver ? If you installed something like nvidia driver with previous kernel, you will have to install this again. Don't forget you will need kernel-sources too.
  4. My guess is that it was much better to include this kernel-source-2.6.3-4mdk.i586 on the install CD's and let the user download flux later, at their conveniance. (not sure of the file sizes)
  5. I recently used pre-made php type sites that do this on my site (www button below). If you want to check them out: They use imagemagik and sizes are set in the configure / setup scripts. http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php http://coppermine.findhere.org/index.php I wouldn't know how to hard-code something like this, but your welcome to borrow any of my pages to hack the script for your purposes.
  6. woo hoo !!! I have been hoping for something like this: 2004 Mar04 10.0 Community for club members 2004 Mar12 10.0 Download 3 first CDs of download edition released to everyone 2004 Mar28 10.0 Official same as above, but with all updates applied. REMINDER DO NOT post any links to club torrents anywhere on this board.
  7. Good idea and has been added to the "inbox" of things to do for our team of FAQ writers.

Yes it does --- even that free trial version. I may just have to check it out myself (for win2k).
  10. Urza, why not just upload some quick "under construction" pages to complete the links and end these 404 "file not found" ads? <html> <body> <p>under construction</p> </body> </html> and name a copy each for --- FAQs.html, Myths.html, etc. This way you will also be able to test if the frames load correctly.
  11. I was thinking the crashes are more likely due to a USB problem and not with any of the special keys on this keyboard. Any special keys can be configured in XFree. There seems to be a few USB devices that aren't getting along with Mandrake. I myself have a USB CF card reader that seems to be one of these. I would just find an old keyboard someplace to use instead and save the headaches. http://reviewed.homelinux.org/howtos/xfree/keyboard/
  12. I would opt for the VIA and Gforce (nVidia) also.
  13. Welcome to MUB, I don't think you need another soundcard. first check that sound is unmuted in kmix or similiar program. Second, see if anything in following thread helps: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...t=0entry15960 Info may be a bit dated, but may help you troubleshoot things.
  14. I have used PowerMax successfully a few times now, but have always gotten the "success" message afterwards. I would not trust storing any data on that drive and would feel better getting the replacement. I love that freezer trick... yes, it's for real.
  15. This usually comes from a USB Compact Flash drive or ZIP drive. Its some kind of bug, but does not affect the use of the drive if configured correctly and supported. As for seeing your windows drive --- does your fstab file have an entry for windows ?
  16. I think mine have been behaving (if the attached file shows the menu items you seek). DId you install OO as user ? You running 9.2 ? Did you install the updates ? Did you run: update-menus -a ???

OK, this is gonna be a WAG (wildassguess) I think the key in that error message is: I believe I remember something similiar dealing with a new program not compiling due to an incompatible libraries. I am thinking you found a new program someone compiled on a 9.2 system and you got a 9.1 system with a slightly different GTK setup.
  18. I always get those warnings when installing something other than those rpms on the Mandrake disks. I just ignore them as tyme sez and continue with the install.
  19. Hey... was looking up some info for a project of mine and ran into this bit of info. source - http://www.gimp.org/install_help.html Maybe that's the step we are forgetting about ?
  20. Is Mandrake stock available these days ??? Last I heard they froze it and weren't offering any on the public markets.
  21. Have we tried anything drastic yet... like uninstalling menudrake-0.7.4-2mdk and reinstalling it ??? Wish I could offer better advice here, but I have run out of tricks up my sleeves. I do have some fitting emoticons for the occasion tho...
  22. I read this in the interest of increasing my USB 2 speeds also. I am getting half of what pmpatrick is getting. Bam --- did you mean /etc/modules.conf or just /etc/modules ??? I have this line in my modules.conf already: probeall usb-interface usb-uhci usb-ohci ehci-hcd Which I imagine is correct since I can rw to the drive... I just would like it to be quicker too. :D
  23. Any chance you got this one (or similiar) installed ? libgimpprint1-4.2.5-30mdk
  24. Did you see this? --- just posted. http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=11490
  25. Hi, I remember dealing with this a while back. I had to use an old x server to get a viewable screen. Try changing to the s3v driver and choose the 3.3.6 version of XFree. Test if before restarting X. You're not gonna get anything fancy, but you should get at least 800x600 and 16 bit color.
