  1. When installing 9.2 I ommited to add gnome as one of my desktops thus it does not appear in the login manager, after many problems with installs on kde and the programs not going into the start menu (which i am finally getting around touch wood) I would like to try gnome and try and get used to that as well!. I have tried to work out how to get it on the login manager to no avail, i have tried installing off of the disks using the software manager and am sure it is installed but want the option in the login screen. i could do with some help!!!
  2. i have done this, and again most of my packages install but there are some that dont like mplayer, (i think it installs but i cant use it and cant find it) amongst others, this is the main problem all my servers are up to date i am sure, why doesnt kde put them in the start menu thingy
  3. I am very new to mandrake linux, have tried to install over the last year or so and am finally making headway, but have hit a snag. have managed to get my speedtouch modem working! have geforce card working when using the mandrake control center to download and install packages i get the errors about contrib not being up to date and some apps install correctly, but others do not appear on my menus, and having trawled through all of the directory files can not find executables for progs like xmms and mplayer, also cd writing tools and other multimedia apps i thought i had installed... where are the installed files and why dont they appear on the menus, how can i get for example mplayer to work using urpmi and why do the errors come up even though i have updated the source using the command line 10 minutes before, also is there other sources that i can use apart from the contrib and plf librarie, i am very happy with mandrake 9.2 but have spent considerable time trying to get round installing apps and games and i am getting used to urpmi and see this as the way to go for me your help is appreciated
  4. have had my speedtouch usb working once then i shut down rebooted and now it doesnt work!. when i use the mandrake control center for a minute it tests my connection and then states i am not connected, i press the connect button but to no avail, when i use the wizard it tells me i have succesfully set up and does not give me the option to test the connection or to start from boot as it did when first installed, i have the alcatel sys file in the speedtouch folder and have used the internet on mandrake 9.2 once but cannot get anywhere at the moment, i am very new at this and have tried over the past year to migrate to linux with problems every time, any suggestion would be welcome, i have trawlled the net for info but cannot seem to get it working wahtsoever, if there is someway of reseting the internet connections that may help... thank you
