  1. Hi. I've installed Mandriva 2008.1 on 3 different laptops (Toshiba, Compaq and Dell) with vista. All 3 are dual booting and they have no single issue, however, the import windows options in MCC seems not to import the wallpaper ... other than that ... everything is ok Cheers Luis
  2. Probabily you meant to write this link  https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=55694
  3. @Adam... Thanks for your comment... Ironically, if you take a look to my first post in forum.mandriva, I had exactly the same problem and your suggestion was to use the DVD(Talking about 2009.0 ONE KDE) ... this time I follow someone's else advice and it booted the 4rth time I tried.. The DVD and the 3 CDs go just fine with no single issue... The Spring ONE GNOME I had to burn it at the lowest speed and it worked but it does not let me use anything, so for me is useless, and md5sume and sha1sum are just correct... however I still give you the credit that it could be a bad burn (I have already burnt some like 10-12 CDs and all went to the garbage can :( Going a little bit further I iuse the ONE KDE in my wife's PC and it worked like a charm, but when I installed it.... I could never boot... so I just inserted the FREE DVD and it fixed everything... IMHO, there must be a bug in ONE KDE and GNOME... but I frankly don't think it is a kernel related bug,... as I said before.. the is the second time with ONE.. first with 2008.0 and now 2008.1. And just to finish, I had never this problem with RC2.... strange, isnt it? Kind Regards Luis
  4. Well... if I were using ubuntu, I'd say that.. (normally a kernell problem) Id say that (not probabily) I've been using 2008.1 since alpha2 and I'm so happy with it ... (I'm really).. BUT............... I DLed all.. the 3 CDs (they are just fine =).. the DVD (its just nice :D).. and the 2 live CDs (GBOME and KDE) . I must say.. (excuse me mods) they were such a loss of time....... I'm really angry with them... for me.. I lost all my time DLing them.. (GNOME works some times..) KDE is just imposssible ) However.. I'll continue using mandriva cooker 2009 (I do love to).... my distro is not perfect but I can do almost everything I want to... that does not mean I'm not dissapointed ... (to the original poster) try to burn your disk at the lowest speed 2x) IN MY CASE I could boot the GNOME live cd but I could never test firefox, mcc, openofficeorg calc or writer, evolution, etc.. . it just did not work and I could never make an installation.. ... BUTTTT .. come on.. download the DVD and everything will be just fine ;) cheers Luis.
  5. Yeah, Me too :( I strongly believe that there might be hundreds of people in the same situation ...... I DLed via bit torrent both live Cds GNOME and KDE, 2 times. and the 2 times I had the same issue...
  6. Most of them are not even ready... What I suggest is to wait at least one more day, unless you know how to add them manually Regards Luis
  7. IMHO the problem seems to be draktools, or at least that's waht urpmi is complaining about. I think this issue will be resolved by itself . Let's just wait for some hours till the database is completely updated, (Ihope so) Luis
  8. You're going to love 2008.1 a lot more than ubuntu... (I'm one of them :D) If you like the bleeding edge (like me) then you can download the RC2 here... http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_RC_2#Availability It's very stable at the moment but your mileage may vary Cheers Luis
  9. Just Today........... ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distr.../iso/2008.1/rc2
  10. This also happend to me in my wife's box (she is using KDE btw) What I did to fix this was to open MCC and in Software Managment>Comfigure SW I edited the 2 CDROM lines and changed it to say "cdrom://i586/media/main" (without quotes). This happened to me 'cause I have a CD reader and a DVD combo in my box But as someone else suggested before, these packages are too old so IMHO the best is to delete'em or to untickle them. Cheers Luis
  11. Wait for 3 days from now and get RC2... it's worth to try it :) Cheers Luis EDIT: The reason why I tell u to wait is because the update is about 600 MB.... I think it's worth to wait 3 days, isn't it?
  12. I dont think there is something wrong if you accept the license 2, 3 or n times as long as u use it in the same machine, but I don't know what legal issues involves installing M$W in a VM. Cheers Luis
  13. Hey.... this makes a lot of sense :) I think I will try this on my daughter's lappy, she also is needing a winxp application that does not run under wine and using VB makes her laptop so slow... Cheers Luis
  14. Hey.... Thanks a lot for this info... Trying to make a XP image i faillingall the time with vmware, that was the reason I wanted to use VB. However, I'm not having any luck, the procedure to do this on VB is a lot beyond my actual linux skils. so I guess I must wait till it is possible some day, who knows :( Kind Regards Luis
  15. Hi. I'm not sure if what you want is possible (I hope someone with more knowlege corrects me if I'm wrong)... From my experience, I've always installed windows and then any linux OS, letting grub manage the boot. But, you can always install any Virtual Machine like VirtualBox or VMware and install windows on them, this way you can have windows inside your linux distribution Hope this can help you a little bit Cheers Luis
  16. Thanks a lot scarecow. The howto I saw was for VB not VMW but it was made under ubuntu. You are right about blasting not only the windows partition but also the whole HD. Regarding your suggestion about making an image, I already tried to do it with VMWare, but it fails all the time :(. I think this has something to do with the way XP is installed under my HP box 'cause it worked perfectly on one of my neighbor's machine... Strange, ins't it? Kind Regards ppcrulez.. thanks a lot for this info...I will check it and post back any comments or questions if I have (hope you are here to give me some advices in case I need them) :) Kind Regards OniLin... Thanks for this info... it is very important to mo to try to do it on virtualbox as I've found it much faster than VMWare.. I'll come back to see what happens Kind Regards Luis
  17. Hi. I'm not an expert on servers (or linux), but I sure have a lot of idea installing them. I've been runnning a server for more than 2 years without any problems and part of the way I learnes was by going to the howtoforge site and there I found a lot of stuff to get involved with servers... The next link has everything to start with a new server installation from Zero: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_server_mandriva_2008.0 I must add that you need to be familiari with the command line, deploying a server is not the same as of being in a PC where you have all your desktop icons and graphics up and running, to have that kind of server, then you need to go to some place like xandros.com and buy the server edition (which is very expensive) To have a server up and running in a hitch you will need to have your server and a desktop pc (or laptpp) so you do everything from your pc/laptop (where your graphic environment will be) if your are using windows in your pc then you will need a program like PuTTy (downlaod puttty.exe) to interact with your server or if you have linux then you can use SSH wich is installed by default in all linux distros. http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatha...y/download.html The last is to start learning linux and the command line, as this is the easiest way to deply it. Kind Regards Luis
  18. Hi. My machine is a desktop HP paviliion with a 1.8 dual core proc. 2 GB of RAM. The original CDs will not boot with any kind of emaulator and that's the only license I have. Some weeks ago I saw a tutorial for ubuntu where someone has done this and also seemless virtualizing, but the problem here are the CDs. I need this machine with XP 'cause I use it for autocad (until there is an arcad version in spanish and I have the money :)), so back to the maiin topic, is this posible with Mandriva 2008.0? Any link, suggestions, are very wellcome Thanks in advance Luis
  19. @zibbi To fix the blurry fonts in FF just follow the next 3 steps: 1.- In the address bar type: about:config 2.- In the filter box write "dpi" (without quotes) and change the integer valu from -1 to 0 (zero) 3.- Again in the filter box type freetype and change the logical values to "true" except for the "unhinted" which must be false The rest is a matter of playing with your preferences as you did before Cheers Luis EDIT: hope this is not too late :-)
  20. take a look at this thread http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=...&highlight= Cheers Luis
  21. Hi guys Thanks a lot for your fast response... In one of the links I provided, there is a MOndo thread. I've read a lot (before reading your reponses) about mondo, but I don't see the way to make a complete System and Home backup which will install directly from boot without asking any parameters, just copying the iso image directly to the HD. (including all kernel parameters, partitions, etc) opeSuSE and SLED 10 have these tools (YasT CD creator) but I want to use Mandriva this time. I've read a little at MCNLive but I really don't understand the project. I'm not new to linux but I'm also not too wise to understand some of these techie stuff.. There is a project together with gParted (I don't remember the name), which has a boot cd to do these things directly to a server but I remember last year when I wanted to do this, I had a lot of headaches and at the end of the story I got only not usable tar.bz files I've installed Mondo more than one hour ago and I've not been able to get it running... I really have no idea on how to make it work. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance and Kind Regards Luis
  22. Hi As stated in the description, I will buy some new machines and I want to install Mandriva 2008.0 with GNOME,I want to enable NFS in all of them (or at least hae all the packages installed) and some other software I wil use like varicad, lotusnotes and an administrative softwre named factura lux. So my idea is to install in one machine the GNOME DVD, then the rest of the software, I will create all the users accounts and tweak the system to have NFS support and some other things... The rest is to make an iso image of this computer (all of them will have exactly the same hardware) and to install in the rest of the computers with a DVD and/or CDs.. I've read these threads: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=10191 https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=47424 and https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=43241 but neither one of them gives me an idea of how to create a DVD/CD iso image of my complete system is there any way to do this? Thanks in advance Luis
  23. @Nick Probably too late for this update but I also had the same problem some weeks ago playing with the Mandriva One CD 2008.0 and found this link in the ZoneMinder wikki site and worked almost as it's stated there, so I will just write some remarks to leave a precedent for you and/or for future readers. 1. To be able to use ZoneMinder in Mandriva 2008.0 (works for KDE and for GNOME; at least I made it work in both destops separately installed) you need to have the PLF repos enabled, otherwise you can forget it. 2. In the i"Install the RPMs" section, after you try to install the "zm-1.23.1-4mdv2008.0.i586.rpm" package, urpmi will bring some dependency options with 4 packages, some like this: root@localhost zoneminder]# urpmi zm-1.23.0-2mdv2008.0.i586.rpm In order to satisfy the 'apache' dependency, one of the following packages is needed: 1- apache-mpm-prefork-2.2.6-8.1mdv2008.0.i586: Implements a non-threaded, pre-forking web server (stable) (para instalar) 2- apache-mpm-event-2.2.6-8.1mdv2008.0.i586: Implements a hybrid multi-threaded multi-process web server (experimental) (para instalar) 3- apache-mpm-worker-2.2.6-8.1mdv2008.0.i586: Implements a hybrid multi-threaded multi-process web server (experimental) (para instalar) 4- apache-mpm-itk-2.2.6-8.1mdv2008.0.i586: Implements a non-threaded, pre-forking web server (experimental) (para instalar) ¿Qué elige? (1-4) I did not select any and pressed <Enter> (probabily the number One was selected, I'm not sure for this), which brought me a new dialog: In order to satisfy the 'php' dependency, one of the following packages is needed: 1- apache-mod_php-5.2.4-2mdv2008.0.i586: The PHP5 HTML-embedded scripting language for use with apache (para instalar) 2- php-fcgi-5.2.4-2mdv2008.0.i586: PHP5 CGI interface with FastCGI support (para instalar) 3- php-cli-5.2.4-2mdv2008.0.i586: PHP5 CLI interface (para instalar) 4- php-cgi-5.2.4-2mdv2008.0.i586: PHP5 CGI interface (para instalar) and here I selected the number ONE and brought me a new dialog with a dependency satisfaction thing which I accepted... and that was all Hope this will help you or some newcomers in the future Kind Regards EDIT: The ZoneMinder HowTo has already been updated.
  24. Same here, Just an advice... do not install the fusion icon, it seems; at least in my case, to freeze and/or wipe your screen. Regards Luis
