  1. Hi. I've installed Mandriva 2008.1 on 3 different laptops (Toshiba, Compaq and Dell) with vista. All 3 are dual booting and they have no single issue, however, the import windows options in MCC seems not to import the wallpaper ... other than that ... everything is ok Cheers Luis
  2. Probabily you meant to write this link  https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=55694
  3. @Adam... Thanks for your comment... Ironically, if you take a look to my first post in forum.mandriva, I had exactly the same problem and your suggestion was to use the DVD(Talking about 2009.0 ONE KDE) ... this time I follow someone's else advice and it booted the 4rth time I tried.. The DVD and the 3 CDs go just fine with no single issue... The Spring ONE GNOME I had to burn it at the lowest speed and it worked but it does not let me use anything, so for me is useless, and md5sume and sha1sum are just correct... however I still give you the credit that it could be a bad burn (I have already burnt some like 10-12 CDs and all went to the garbage can :( Going a little bit further I iuse the ONE KDE in my wife's PC and it worked like a charm, but when I installed it.... I could never boot... so I just inserted the FREE DVD and it fixed everything... IMHO, there must be a bug in ONE KDE and GNOME... but I frankly don't think it is a kernel related bug,... as I said before.. the is the second time with ONE.. first with 2008.0 and now 2008.1. And just to finish, I had never this problem with RC2.... strange, isnt it? Kind Regards Luis
  4. Well... if I were using ubuntu, I'd say that.. (normally a kernell problem) Id say that (not probabily) I've been using 2008.1 since alpha2 and I'm so happy with it ... (I'm really).. BUT............... I DLed all.. the 3 CDs (they are just fine =).. the DVD (its just nice :D).. and the 2 live CDs (GBOME and KDE) . I must say.. (excuse me mods) they were such a loss of time....... I'm really angry with them... for me.. I lost all my time DLing them.. (GNOME works some times..) KDE is just imposssible ) However.. I'll continue using mandriva cooker 2009 (I do love to).... my distro is not perfect but I can do almost everything I want to... that does not mean I'm not dissapointed ... (to the original poster) try to burn your disk at the lowest speed 2x) IN MY CASE I could boot the GNOME live cd but I could never test firefox, mcc, openofficeorg calc or writer, evolution, etc.. . it just did not work and I could never make an installation.. ... BUTTTT .. come on.. download the DVD and everything will be just fine ;) cheers Luis.
  5. Yeah, Me too :( I strongly believe that there might be hundreds of people in the same situation ...... I DLed via bit torrent both live Cds GNOME and KDE, 2 times. and the 2 times I had the same issue...
  6. Most of them are not even ready... What I suggest is to wait at least one more day, unless you know how to add them manually Regards Luis
  7. IMHO the problem seems to be draktools, or at least that's waht urpmi is complaining about. I think this issue will be resolved by itself . Let's just wait for some hours till the database is completely updated, (Ihope so) Luis
  8. You're going to love 2008.1 a lot more than ubuntu... (I'm one of them :D) If you like the bleeding edge (like me) then you can download the RC2 here... http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/2008.1_RC_2#Availability It's very stable at the moment but your mileage may vary Cheers Luis
  9. Just Today........... ftp://carroll.cac.psu.edu/pub/linux/distr.../iso/2008.1/rc2
  10. This also happend to me in my wife's box (she is using KDE btw) What I did to fix this was to open MCC and in Software Managment>Comfigure SW I edited the 2 CDROM lines and changed it to say "cdrom://i586/media/main" (without quotes). This happened to me 'cause I have a CD reader and a DVD combo in my box But as someone else suggested before, these packages are too old so IMHO the best is to delete'em or to untickle them. Cheers Luis
  11. Wait for 3 days from now and get RC2... it's worth to try it :) Cheers Luis EDIT: The reason why I tell u to wait is because the update is about 600 MB.... I think it's worth to wait 3 days, isn't it?
  12. I dont think there is something wrong if you accept the license 2, 3 or n times as long as u use it in the same machine, but I don't know what legal issues involves installing M$W in a VM. Cheers Luis
  13. Hey.... this makes a lot of sense :) I think I will try this on my daughter's lappy, she also is needing a winxp application that does not run under wine and using VB makes her laptop so slow... Cheers Luis
  14. Hey.... Thanks a lot for this info... Trying to make a XP image i faillingall the time with vmware, that was the reason I wanted to use VB. However, I'm not having any luck, the procedure to do this on VB is a lot beyond my actual linux skils. so I guess I must wait till it is possible some day, who knows :( Kind Regards Luis
  15. Hi. I'm not sure if what you want is possible (I hope someone with more knowlege corrects me if I'm wrong)... From my experience, I've always installed windows and then any linux OS, letting grub manage the boot. But, you can always install any Virtual Machine like VirtualBox or VMware and install windows on them, this way you can have windows inside your linux distribution Hope this can help you a little bit Cheers Luis
