  1. Yes run:e2fsck -b 8193 /dev/sda5
  2. That doesn't sound like the installation to me! I think you were still running in 'LiveCD' mode. Running from the cd is always a bit sluggish as your ram is used a lot more. If you want to install to the harddrive (which will improve the speed) there is an icon on the desktop to start the process.
  3. Try mounting as a normal user not as root.
  4. The bottom launcher is called Kooldock I think it's a fork of KxDocker (or maybe it's the other way round). I downloaded the .rpm from here: http://rpmlinux.org/ It's real easy to configure by right-clicking the dock. The top launcher is the stock kde panel just configured with a reflective skin.
  5. I just thought backgrounding it would surpress any console output. Glad you've got it sorted. :) If you don't need the err.txt file would it not be better to pipe the output to /dev/null?
  6. You should be able to do it with DCOP calls. A quick explaination/demo of how DCOP works is here: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/linux/library/l-dcop/
  7. Start the Mandriva Control Centre from commandline (start a konsole session and type mcc), then copy & paste the output here to this forum.
  8. I get the same message when I try to view the image in Opera.
  9. There's KDar check it out here: http://kdar.sourceforge.net/ There is a beta version available in contribs kdar-2.1.0-0.beta1.1mdv2008.1.i586.rpm.
  10. Press your esc key and see what (if any) error messages are there.
  11. Is anyone else having problem with either version(s) of firefox not loading due to: which: no wxdfast in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/gia/bin:/usr/lib/qt4/bin) which: no aria in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/gia/bin:/usr/lib/qt4/bin) /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/firefox-bin: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libtotem-basic-plugin.so: undefined symbol: g_content_type_get_description The first 2 are referring to download managers. There is a wxdfast package available but that is for PCLinuxOS. There's only a reference to aria2 installed on my system. I have updated my database and tried urpmi wxdfast, there's no such package! The same for aria. As for the last error, lib-totem-basic-plugin.so is installed. I cleared these up which: no gwget in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/gia/bin:/usr/lib/qt4/bin) which: no d4x in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/gia/bin:/usr/lib/qt4/bin) which: no nt in (/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin/:/usr/games:/usr/lib/qt4/bin:/home/gia/bin:/usr/lib/qt4/bin) by installing the relevant packages. I have no idea why these files went missing in the first place. As I say, these errors occur with both versions of firefox. Does anyone have any pointers on resolving the remaining errors?
  12. Sometimes when boot appears to hang I press enter and it sometimes continues to boot. Failing that try pressing Alt & F2 or F3 etc, to cycle through the different terminals and you may see more messages. BTW: The two new options you mentioned seem the same to me
  13. Yeah that's in the bios options too. A 5 second delay.
  14. Would it not be wiser to try and relocate the pc out of reach? Unless you fancy having to remove the power lead or turn off the wall socket to power down after a complete system freeze! Have a look in your bios and see what options you have for your power button. Perhaps changing it to put the computer in sleep mode instead of powering off.
  15. I use sftp when using konqueror. The connection is an ssh connection.
  16. There's no need to add it as an iso. Just make a live Mandriva One usb distro and use that to install it on other pc's.
  17. Do: Alt & F2 then type: kdesu konqueror and click run. Enter your root password. This will launch your file manager as root, you can now browse any folder(s) and read any file(s). Please pay close attention to what you are doing whilst in root mode.
  18. Check your settings using the button on the top left of the window and going to advanced--> Special Window Settings or Special Application Settings.
  19. I think he means he can't find the .rpm he originally used. The OP has an interesting nick choice though
  20. Wouldn't it be better (and easier) to carry around the Mandriva One and use that as an installation source instead.
  21. The instructions that AussieJohn has given will allow you to have such a setup. In Mandriva do: Alt & F2 this will bring up a run dialog box. Type mcc then press run. Input your root password and click ok. Now go to Boot--> Set up boot system on the next screen click next now click Add select Other OS click ok use the drop down box to select winblows. If you want winblows to be the default boot then put a tick in the default box. Click ok then click finish. Close down all open windows or applications you have open and reboot your computer. You should now see winblows as an option in the boot menu.
  22. Here's a step by step howto with visuals: http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_linux_a...alled_first.htm. Apart from them using Ubuntu as the example, the steps are the same.
