Hi, Have you tried to enter the bios & change the "USB Emulation" & "USB Controller" to off. You may not have both options or the title maybe different... HTH

Hi, A quick "Google" shown this http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/answers/411 which may help with your locked urpmi. As for TTF all you need to do is copy the fonts from Windoze to a folder on your pc, then go to "configure your desktop" then to "system - font installer" & add those fonts. They may be better ways but this is how I did it.. HTH EDIT : oops just like a bus wait wait wait .. then 2 come together :D

I was always under the impression that to copy & give without charging a fee was acceptable but to copy & charge for the CD/DVD was illegal... any thoughts?

Hi, Have you checked your /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any errors...

Hi, as well as the devries advice you could try a "live cd" which will boot & run from the cd & give you a feel for Linux as well as seeing if your hardware is compatible..

Hi, Have you checked which version you are running (in the CLI type ndiswrapper --version) I found that even after installing the currnet version if the older version isn't uninstalled completely you will invoke the older ndiswrapper. Apologies if you have already tried this..

Cheers for the reply. For now I think its been fixed (I hope!) I after nearly giving up decided to check the AP's website (www.usr.com) for any firmware updates & noticed some beta updates. With nothing to lose & a story shortened the network seems to be stable. I will leave this PC running for a couple of days & take it from there. Thanks again for your interest peeps..

Hi, thanks for the reply. Linuxant actually don't charge for my chipset :D (Ti) but I take your point. dmesg shows nothing of relevance. Strange thing is that if I replace the hd with a xp image on it, I have no problems. Do you know of any differences between 10 & 10.1 with regards to network protocols (i was think about IPv6.. but not to clued up)? TIA

Hi all, here's my first desktop...

Hi all, I have a starnge problem which has only surfaced when I installed 10.1 (clean install). I ran MDK 10 with no problems whatsoever with regards to my eth connection. My problem is that I have an USR wireless pci nic which is running with the help of Driverloader. This is the exact same setup as I had in MDK 10, but in 10.1 I have noticed that after about 45 mins or so I get a slight lag intermittenly. When I ping before the 45 mins mark this is my result PING 192.168.1.1 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=1.51 ms 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=2 ttl=128 time=1.51 ms --- jaraeez ping statistics --- 7 packets transmitted, 7 received, 0% packet loss, time 6005ms & after the 45 min mark PING 192.168.1.1 56(84) bytes of data. 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=1 ttl=128 time=1.52 ms 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=5 ttl=128 time=3.72 ms 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=16 ttl=128 time=787 ms 64 bytes from jaraeez (192.168.1.1): icmp_seq=22 ttl=128 time=3.10 ms --- jaraeez ping statistics --- 24 packets transmitted, 8 received, 66% packet loss, time 23004ms To be honest I am at a complete loss as to why this is happening. Well I've been using MDK 10.2 beta RC2 for a while now. I like it also, but unfortunately can't get driverloader installed http://www.linuxant.com/driverloader/ . On previous MDK installs I have never had a problem. Maybe its the newer kernel, but not to sure. Anyway other than that I do like it...

Hi all, Ive read so many posts to no avail. My problem is that I can not get my dvd-rom to detect original dvd's. Now what I mean by this is that I can play originals but only the 2nd discs. Which leads me to presume that its the dvd-menu's that is a problem. Ive installed all the relevant packages (libdvdcss, libdvdnav, libdvdread, etc..) When i put the 2nd disc in the drive all works well & VLC starts up playing. When i try the 1st disc the dvd-rom does nothing (no spinning etc..) when I try to browse to the /mnt/dvd folder nothing... Any help would be greatly appreciated TIA

sure... I'll give it a go when I'm home. Doing this though will not solve my problem will it?

Hi all, Recently i810_audio driver seems to get corrupt (or something). Twice now booting MDK 10 (a gap of 3 weeks) the whole start up process has been very slow. Then once started the processor runs at 100%, the mouse is very sloooww. Running "dmesg" shows this error "i810_audio: drain_dac, dma timeout?" Any ideas!!. To rectify this I have to change drivers to ALSA (which plays to fast) reboot, then pick i810_audio, reboot, then all is fine again... TIA

From what I can tell (reading your file) you have not implemented the "nvidia" in Section "Device" Identifier "device1" Driver "nv" ---- HERE---- Option "DPMS" EndSection Have you tried this, also there is some new drivers on Nvidia's web site which you may try

Hi there, If your chipset is T1 your in luck. Driverloader don't charge for this chipset as I found out the other day. You get an OEM license which is permanent. Installation is a breeze, & configuration via the web page is also very efficient. You will need wireless-tools installed, but I think you have those installed..

Hi, I'm another Smoothwall fan. Using it for two years plus. Never been hacked (yet). Their forums are one of the bets I've visited. They have so many mods & good developers that this firewall is truly amazing... my 2 bits :)

Go find out for yourself, grab the latest, play with all the themes, extensions and options, then make your own decision. I find that between the two it's generally personal choice. I use opera on occasion and I also tend to find that Firefox does a much better and faster job of rendering web pages. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hi, thanks for the reply. I just might do that... :)

Hi all, just reading your posts. As a matter of interest how does Firefox compare to Opera (fors, againsts)?

Hi Dave, I think you need it in "legacy mode". Edit the virtual machine settings, click on DVD-CDRom, & make sure it is ticked to use the drive & that a tick is in Legacy Emulation...
