  1. I had this problem, but I solved it. First to get thunderbird to work in Mandrake Official 10.0, you must take these steps. I know most people use Kmail or Evoulotion, but I prefer Thunderbird for its sharp looks and junk-mail features. 1. Go into your favorite terminal. 2. Su into root 3. Type "Urpmi thunderbird" 4. Dl and let it install it self. 5. You'll notice when you try to run it won't work. 6. Type "Nautilus" or whatever you use to browse files. 7. Enable hidden files and folders to be seen. 8. Find .thunderbird 9. Change the user and group settings so that your user owns it, and not root. 10. Congratulations, your thunderbird should now work without logging into root. I hope to help a struggling newbie with this guide. And good luck to all of you, SwiftDeath
  2. Qchem... Thank you for your help. But unfortunatly I am command-line illliterate. What do I type to install it? Suse don't got urpmi and theirs no gui. Darkelve.... lol nice catch. I make lots of typos. Yeah, that'd be pretty sad if I was using Suse 3.1. That'd be like 8 years ago.... That be like using Windows 3.1 or DOS. lol
  3. Hmmm. Digikam looks pretty good. It autodetected my dads expensive camera right (that I can't use). But not my cheap Veo Capture 1300. Hmmm.. Brb gonna google up veo 13000 on google.com/linux.
  4. Cool. I never knew about google.com/linux? it searches only linux stuff? Thats awesome now I won't have to burden you guys with as much questions, because my searches will be more direct. Thats so cool google made a linux section. Lol <---- easily amused.
  5. Well, I noticed Suse finally decided to allow a iso for download so I gave it a try. I downloaded it and I k3b checked the md5 sum before burning it. It also checked the data (verify data option) and it was all ok. I then install it on another one of my computers, and it says the package xfree86 could not be installed during the install. After the install everything is booting up fine before it asks me to logon (and it looks like I'm in a terminal kinda log-in) and I log in and I type Startx. And it says the packages could not be found. Do you guys have any clue what went wrong? I just want to try other distributions so I can decide which one I like best. Thanks, SwiftDeath
  6. The gateway is set to the router. I just beleive that Windows is somehow interfering with the network device. I did type in those things in the console btw. And I set it up through the add connection wizard in the MCC.I have no firewall, and the internet works on my other 3 linux computers. Thanks for the help, SwiftDeath P.S. Keep up the good work
  7. Is it easier to install? Well I guess, thats my only choice, then. I won't be able to win the argument with my friend that linux is completely free and can do everything windows can, but I was damn close then. And 15 bucks is better for winex, then 180 for WIn Xp  But you guys are 100 percent sure this is easy to use? And it works with most/all games? I just want to check before I spend 15 bucks. Also... does it matter if my computer is running an ATI or an Nvidia when using Winex?
  8. That is the dumbest marketing idea I've ever seen.
  9. I am using Mandrake 10.0 Official Eiditon on my other computer which is dual booting with Windows XP. On windows my computer can acess the internet ,but on linux it can't. I tried manually setting it up and everything. I am using the default kernel that came with the installation, and I'm using cable behind a DI-614+ with the latest firmware upgrades. When on linux, I can't even type in the ip adress of the router and find it. I have no clue whats going on. Can someone please give me a heads-up? Thanks, SwiftDeath
  10. I got computers with the other desktop environment. But then I later reinstalled it the next day with GNOME because I like it better. But it seemed to work with only ICEwn and window manager.
  11. If that thread doesn't help you could also try using grub instead of lilo.
  12. I heard somehwere that wine could now run games because it supported direct x. Boy they were WRONG! So I quickly uninstalled that and tried an RPM I found of Frank's Corner for WineX specifically built for mandrake and suze. So I installed it. Without luck that didn't work to well. So now I'm trying to install WineX directly from CVS. I get to the point where I go "make depend && make" Then I get my error. Here is the list it goes through. The error is at the bottom of this list. Can someone please tell me how to fix this. All I need to do is emulate games so I can get rid of that Winbloze $hit forever. I was planning to use this to manage my games. http://www.franksworld.net/wgm.html But I read its not CVS compatible. Once I get it installed you wouldn't happen to know of a free program that sorta is like this one? Thanks for the help in advance, SwiftDeath
  13. What should I change the title of the topic, too? For NVU... it was really easy it just said it was missing some libraries and I installed them via RPMDRAKE and then I just installed it. I forgot the exact way it was a long time ago, I think theirs a readme. I also started trying to emulate windows with wine, but little luck. Anyone here got some free time that I can chat with over an IM or something?
  14. Hmmm I can agree with you on the network problems. I have 3 Mandrake GNOME 10.0 Official computer and 1 Mandrake KDE 10.0 Offifical and its the only one that doesn't work. But then again, it might have something to do with the dual boot but I can't be sure.
  15. I installed that rpm and I get really excited. Because it detected the right module soon after words minutes after I installed it. I thought I finally got it to work.... but I tried to print a standard test page and nothing ever happened.
  16. Hmm. thats sad a story. Can you still boot into windows? If you can maybe you should try setting your hard drive and cd-rom settings to LBA instead of Auto.
  17. Its in the bios/cmos but its different with every computer. Best Of Luck, SwiftDeath
  18. Yep... alot better support than what you'll get with windows.
  19. I can see the light! The truth is coming! Oh... nvm my dad just turned on the lights. :P
  20. Well, keep letting us know what you think. Maybe I'll try it.
  21. My aunt is thinking about trying linux.. So you guys think this would be better to give her than mandrake official 10.0? I guess I'll download. Looks pretty descent.
  22. I had the a problem when it'd lock up right at starting at the beginning of the blue line. I figured that changing everything from AUTO to LBA in my bios fixed that. I dunno if its relevant but it couldn't hurt. :D Best of luck, SwiftDeath
  23. Does that mean that linux will run any faster and look better? Will we lose some programs that were already made? (I'm kinda clueless, barely any clue to what you talking about besides the fact that xfree86 and x.org seem to be the base of the gui's.)
