  1. Hi all I am running Mandrake 10.1 and using the 2.6 kernel. However I downloaded the Netraverse installer and tried using the 2.6 and the 2.4 and it said that either kernel was compatible with Win4lin. I then went to the Mandrake site and downloaded a WIN4lin kernel 2.6 (something) but when I try to boot into it I get a "kernel panic" error. I have no idea of what I have done wrong, can anyone here give me an idea??? Thanks for your help in advance. 2. Hey God flesh You are right! I can read wmv files. But how do you get mplayer to be part of the desktop background?? Thanks
  3. Thanks Devries. What about Superkaramba being able to download .jpg or png files fom the net a la Gkrellkam??? Is that possible? And if so is there a good site where you could point me to learn how to it?? Thanks for your time.
  4. Hi, I have been a happy user of Gkrellm for ages now but I now want to do something that Gkrellm via Krellkam just cannot do. that is, I want to find a program that can live stream from a webcam on the net that streams in real time using the .wmv format. Is there a program out there that can do that straight to my desktop?? I have just started using Superkaramba but so far I cannot find that particular feature in it. Any ideas??? Thanks for any help

  6. Ramfree17 You're right!! You can't as I just found out while slowly destroying my MDK installation!! Oh well another install! But can you explain to me what you mean by a Vanilla version??? Does that mean compiling a new version of Openoffice from source??? Please excuse my noobiness is showing!!
  7. Thanks for the reply. But excuse my ignorance......what command should I try to add this particular CD as an urpmi update?? Sorry if I am missing smething obvious, but it doesn't seem too obvious from where I'm sitting. Thanks
  8. Hi I have just uninstalled MDK 10.1 and gone back to MDK 10. I find that it the earlier version is much more suited to my computer for some reason. I still use the 2.6 Kernel but the latter version gave me many headaches. ANYWAY, is there a way of updating OpenOffice from the latest CD's??? I would like to use the latest version which is on the 10.1 CDs. can anyone help me to know which is the easiest way if at all possible??? Thanks
  9. I had one of those adsl modems and I had NO probs with it but there was a few procedures I had to go through first. Report back if you are still having probs!
  10. Well Yves All I tried to do (unsucessfully I may add) was try to format the DVD via a terminal. I forget the command that I used now, but it was one that I read somewhere to format a DVDrw to packet writing. All I have now is a couple of DVDs that cannot be read in any DVD Burning program or any DVD player or writer. I don't like giving in so I don't want to throw them out. But I don't know where to start to even try and resurrect them. Any ideas will be very much accepted!!!
  11. Is there anyone out there with ANY ideas that may help me??? Thanks
  12. Hi again fellow linux groovers I experimented with packet writing a few weeks ago with both CDs and DVDs without too much success and eventually gave up ........a loser! However, the DVD RWs that I was trying to format can no longer be identified by K3b or any other DVD burning program that I have installed. Now, I would really like to be able to resurrect these DVDs rather than throw them away. Can anyone give me any ideas of what I might be able to do or approaches to take??????????? Thanks for any help, it is much appreciated. [moved from Software by spinynorman]
  13. Thanks for the help I have it all going again now!
  14. Thanks LZ No I hav'nt been playing with Menudrake. Actually I cannot remember what I did to cause this one. All I can think of is Mplayer would install but not open. I uninstalled and reinstalled Mplayer a couple of times, that's all. But when I run that command that you give me it sticks on Running method: /etc/menu-methods/simplified/gnome And won't go any further. But by running it I have "Multimedia" back on the menu in KDE but that's all. Any more ideas??????? HELP!!
  15. Hi all, I have lost all of my programs from my start menu in both KDE and Gnome desktops???!!! I am running MDK 10.1 and I am at a loss as to how or why this has happened. If I run kde-config I get the new window with absolutely nothing in it like not ONE icon!!! Can anyone give me a clue as to what I can do?? thanks in advance
