if you want to ignore the dependencies use rpm -i --nodeps PACKAGE_FILE or you could force the installation using this method rpm -i --force PACKAGE_FILE

From what I have seen on the Ubuntu forums, the performance from fglrx+AIGLX is a bit choppy. I have yet to get AIGLX working with Ubuntu or Mandriva with open or closed drivers (of which my card is supported by both)

Might be a stupid question, but have you checked that the kernel module is working (lsmod)? It sounds like the bridge isn't seeing the computer when suse is running (i.e. no electrical current along the wire).

Another point, some of you appear to be getting a bit worked up (at least that's how it looks to me). Try to consider the tone of your language when you post before this thread ends up turning into a flamefest

Sorry for the O/T, but Zac is spot on, new users to linux, not PC's in general, are used to the windows way of things, for many simple point a click is enough to get them by on a windows system. The same can not be guaranteed 100% for the same person using Linux, buggy or insufficient GUI tools will have users plunged into CLI, an area that is not comfortable for them. Getting this type of user to adopt Linux will be most difficult IMO. I don't see your point, most people know enough of the simple stuff to get them by, with little effort. Linux requires more effort than "point and click", more effort than what average computer users wish to expell. Again, sorry for the O/T, but I couldn't ignore the argument.

I would recommend using the radeon driver, the latest proprietary driver from ati does not support this card, as far as I can see the last driver from ati that supports this card is 8.28.8

I have to agree with scoonma, I have found that function useful at times when I have a lot of windows open, just a bit quicker than alt-tabbing or scanning through previews for each button on the window list. I touched on previews/thumbnails on alt-tab and window list buttons, again handy. But that's about as far as it goes, wobbly windows and other effects are just eye candy, nothing more IMO.

Ummm, I'm not so sure, there would have been a board decision at one point, so I don't believe that decision was made by Carmony alone. Lets not forget the benefit of hind-sight as well!

I would go so far as to say that Mandriva is better in terms of ease of use, but until Mandriva screws the nut and go beyond half-heartedly using the media, Ubuntu will continue to dominate!

IMO he was trying to drive home the point that Mandriva should be using revenues from powerpack sales, subs, etc and ploughing some of it into providing better mirrors for exclusive use by those that contribute financially. Unfortunately he went on to draw a comparison with other distro's that offer that support for free, thus giving a further implication that this should apply to free editions as well, which really wasn't what he was trying to say in the first place. Anyway, who said you needed a billionaire to provide the infrastructure, many other projects get by without a huge financial burden, maybe the issue isn't Mandriva's financial backing, but more so how their business is perceived by potential (mirror) contributors. Like arctic mentioned, Mandriva has apparently no market strategy, enough said.

Finally got compiz-fusion working, well almost, after finding out that the mandriva fglrx package messed about with the DRI (I have the fglrx installed on Fedora but use the radeon driver for AIGLX, DRI works fine :unsure:). Anyway, drak3d now gives me the option to use metisse and Compiz-fusion with AIGLX. I tried metisse for five minutes, wasn't impressed, looked like too much effort required to do gimmicky things. Moved over to compiz-fusion, but for some reason the window manager is borked

Seconded, there have been major improvements with yum of the last few releases, it's far from slow.

Let me guess, the windows was on the first partition. I have had this before, windows seems to dislike it, you try to replace the partition, and a random area of 8MB or so hangs their in no mans land. Never found a way out of it other than to totally wipe the partition table and start again. I tend to keep linux and windows on separate drive, only because Windows can be such a pain sometimes

OMG, what a riot. Was it too much to get the dual-mini iso to actually ask what architecture you wanted to install, rather than assuming because you didn't modify the boot options? MCC is a major PITA, absolutely hopeless when it came to setting up install/update sources, I had to revert CLI to get them set up and working (reminding me why I love yum/pirut sooooooo much :D), not very newbie friendly. Don't get me started on drak3D, I still have not got compiz-fusion/XGL set up, again it looks like I will be unnecessarily hacking config files in order to get things working, despite having a GUI tool sitting in front of me. :huh: On a side note, ethernet drivers are loaded on boot, which is a surprise, but does not make up for the above. I also have to agree about that wallpaper ilia, not very original IMO (in terms of discussing art, not GPL software). GNOME seems to be okay, but then I only installed task-gnome-minimal, so there's time yet.

I have the exact same board. FC 6 & 7 both worked fine with the Sata II drive I have on my box. Point to note, the Sata controller on that motherboard is Sata I, the drive will still work, but your maximum transfer rate will be 1.5Gb/s, rather than 3gb/s. Support for native Sata II controllers I can not comment on, but that is not an issue for you.
