  1. I always thought krfb is used when you want to invite someone else to share your desktop. I use krdc (k remote desktop connection) to connect to my remote desktops. It works without any problems.
  2. If I'm not mistaken MUD is MandrivaUser.de. http://www.mandrivauser.de/
  3. Do Alt & F2 now type: kdesu konqueror, click run, supply root password and hey presto you can now copy stuff to protected folders as root.
  4. Try right clicking the bluetooth icon then go to Configuration and click on Devices. Change the mode to Discoverable, then try again with your phone.
  5. Log out, go to commandline (Alt&Ctrl&F1), log in as root and run XFdrake. Select your card, opt for the proprietary driver when given the choice. Do the test to make sure all is well. Exit root mode then press Alt&F7 to return to your login screen, log back in and select 3D desktop from the MCC.
  6. I have successfully created and burned dvd data to a dual layer disc with k3b. Is your drive a dual layer burner? Burning data onto dual layer discs with a non dual layer drive will work as only 1 layer is normally required. If your drive is a dual layer burner, then maybe a firmware upgrade may solve the problem.
  7. Well I tried Gregs suggestion, unfortunately the problem still reamains :( I even created a few new accounts and tried initialising KDE4 with those, they all had the same kstartupconfig problem. Thanks again to all of you who submitted suggestions :)
  8. For those of you who are impatient to get started with Mandriva Linux 2008, good news: the Free and Powerpack ISOs are finalized and are being made available to the early seeders program right now. We need a few days for the early seeders to get downloaded and set up to seed, so the official public release will happen at the start of next week. Watch this space! The One ISOs are taking a little longer to complete, but will be available for the official release at the same time as the others. Source: http://blog.mandriva.com/
  9. I'm not sure if there is a solution at the moment to the 'xgl' problem. I recently had xgl working, then for no apparent reason at my next log in I got the 'white screen'. I read somewhere that this is a bug (due to be fixed), for now I have reverted back to the slower 'native' choice.
  10. Thanks for the suggestion Mitchell, I tried it and it doesn't remedy the situation.
  11. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to resolve this kstartupconfig error message in order to successfully start KDE4? edit: The full message is: Could not start kstartupconfig. Check your installation.

And if you are installing XP, do that before installing GNU/Linux it will make things simpler.
  13. If you want the 64bit Mandriva go for x86_64. Yes doing urpmi.removemedia -a will remove your current repo list.
  14. First thing, it's not very wise to run ./configure or make as root, only make install should be executed as root. You need to add the package gtk+2.0, you'll find it in the list of packages, simply type gtk+ in the search box and then look for it in the results. Mind you gtkpod should be in your list of packages anyway, so there's no need to compile it yourself.
  15. Would it not be better to install a fresh copy of GNU/Linux? Then you can observe the whole process from begining to end. It's better than taking on someone else's install, for all you know it might be in an unstable state and that's highly unlikely to give you a fair overview of GNU/Linux. Grab yourself one of the many available Live Distros (e.g. Mandriva One, PClinuxOS etc), simply boot from one and explore the world of GNU/Linux with that. If you are happy with what you see, there's an option on the desktop to install it to hard drive.
  16. My suggestion has to be VirtualBox: http://www.virtualbox.org/
  17. I bet you're all wondering if Mandriva has made it onto the list... http://itmanagement.earthweb.com/entdev/article.php/3701421
  18. LOL There's nothing wrong with trying the upgrade option (or else why have that option at all?), there's also a good chance that it won't fail. Barring your computer failing to load up altogether, any problems that arise can be rectified, if you don't mind the extra work. Besides, look at it as an opportunity to expand your working knowledge of GNU/Linux and Mandriva. As AussieJohn has so rightly pointed out, just ensure you have your home directory backed up.
  19. Well just to add my two pennies worth. I'm also running 2008 RC1 with KDE and to me, it's slightly more responsive than 2007. Everything seems to be working just fine, especially Amaroking, Torrenting, K3bing and Web browsing all at the same time. The only issue I had was with it's choice of kernel. I'm really looking forward to the final release. One thing though, I wish they would make Beagle an opt-in choice rather than an opt-out. Keep up the good work Mandriva
  20. That's good news considering In you get Explore me, comes pre-installed and most users are less likely to use another browser, if they already have one provided.
  21. Add the xvinfo package. If you have not already done so use the Easy Urpmi link at the top of this board to add your sources, then from commandline as root type: urpmi xvinfo that should do the trick. :)
  22. If you're using the KDE desktop, k3b should already be installed on your system. Here's a good link for video apps: http://www.videohelp.com/forum/archive/com...ed-t253616.html
