i don't want to format it now cuz it has a lot of files now.........maybe later when i transfer them to other HDD i will format it to the format that linux can deal with perfectly. but for now there are no way that i can transfer my file to that external HDD. thanx for the help guys.

1 it's usb 2 it's NTFS 3 yes it's mounted i tried from the konsole as SU but it says (read file system only). i can copy from it though but not to it.

I have video and other files that i want to transfer to an external HDD but i can't i tried to change permission but each time i got (cannot change permission) even from the konsole it says read file system only.

each time i try to update my system or install a program from Mandriva Linux Control Center i get a message that says i can't. an image that will explain better. the image

thanks i'll read it and see if it woks but i have a bigger problem now. when Mandriva comes to splash screen the screen turns blue. that's happened when i changed metisse to beyrl using XGL instead of default cuz default I wasn't able to choose it while compiz worked great and it was on default and metisse worked great too. when i entered safe mode i didn't know what to do there i was strang for me..........(used to windows). how can i change it to no 3d so i can log in again or other ways to deal with this.

hello guys i'm using mandriva 2007 and i have LG laptop the sound works good on the headphone (just knew about it) :o but not working on the speakers!!!!!!!!!!!! if anyone can help. by the way new to linux (so far loving it--------need some time to learn) thanx in advance.
