  1. Turn xinerama off, & configure each head seperately within "XFdrake" HTH

    k3b

Yep.. cheers for that. This is also what I have done.. strange. I will double-check to see if the files are executable in Windoze...

    k3b

Hi John, Thanks for the reply. I will check that once Im at home, but im sure that i have the setting in windoze as detail...

    k3b

Hi, I have succesfully installed & burnt using k3b. My problem is that when I put it in a Windoze PC the files show up but instead of there names it shows a little icon..?! Im not sure of the correct settings for burning data cd's which can be read by both Linux & Windoze. Anyone... TIA
  5. Well Ive only ever used VMware in Linux. The reason: it works, & works well for my needs. Now that 5.5 has the wireless host capabilities (can give the virtual pc a static) & the sound is no longer choppy I am a very happy person... :D
  6. Have you tried to boot off a windose boot floppy, the do fdisk /mbr assuming you have "fdisk on your floppy, if not you can download it & add it to the floppy. Though in truth you should still be able to boot from any bootable cd regardless of what OS you have installed.. HTH
  7. Hi, Have you checked to see if "cups" services are running? Ive done upgrades before & noticed that the services were disables after my first re-boot. HTH
  8. Well a few things spring to mind... Do you have sshd enabled on PC1? Is there a firewall on PC1? What are the errors you get in "dmesg" after you try to ssh to PC1? Can you post the output for "ifconfig" for both PC's. Which card are you tring to connect to on PC1?
  9. Hi there, I've been using MDK for around one year (never used Linux before that) & I'm now on MDK 10.2 LE 2005 (the best most stable distro I've ever used). Anyway the other day I downloaded Ubuntu 5.10 & decided to give it a try. Well I've played with it for only a couple of days & to be honest I dont like it. Having said that I'm sure if I give it more time it may grow on me. My advise is if you have a spare hard drive then give it ago. Once you've had enough pull the HD out & try it later.. HTH
  10. Hi, My long way around a similar problem was to remove the dvd, then boot, then shutdown, add the dvd & reboot again. Once I did this all was fine. HTH
  11. Hi, Two things I can suggest. First, have you tried "Generic" for the monitors. I found this to work where as if I tried to use the acutal TFT's model names it did not. Secondly I notice that you have the same "BusID" for both monitors, where as I have different ID's for all my monitors. I basically did what you did with regards to the drivers, started in "failsafe" mode then ran "XFdrake" then after setting up all the monitors saved & rebooted. Have you tried it with "Xinerama" disabled to see if you can get both monitors to initialise. HTH
  12. As a matter of interest what are the permissions on your xorg.conf? Heres mine for your reference -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 5524 Sep 30 23:43 /etc/X11/xorg.conf
  13. Hi, Have you thought about deleting the current drivers & manually copying the new drivers over. Also what does your xorg.conf look like & have you checked the /var/log/Xorg.0.log out for any errors. Finally have you checked the Matrox Forums out for any ideas... HTH EDIT: LOL ... just checked the Matrox forum & noticed that you have posted your problem there already..
  14. Hi there, as the saying goes "nothing special" Im running KDE 3.3.2 on MDV 10.2 in twin monitor mode running to seperate desktops & I can't believe how helpful having all that space really is!!
  15. Hi all, can anyone enlighten me a little here... I have a Matrox G200 MMS (Quad Head) which I run with 2 tft's. Both screens work fine (other than the fact that when I run rdesktop the refresh rate is unbearable) when I enable Xinerama. When its disabled the screens initialise but then it just sits there. I have blue backgrounds but no nouse pointer & I the only way to reboot the PC (Mandriva 2005 LE) is to hard boot. here are some details & pls tell me if you need to see any others.. Matrox G2 MMS

Hi, I've just come across a Matrox G2 MMS complete with a dongles & would like to try it in Mandriva LE 2005. I've played with it in WinDoze & it was an interesting experience, but my preference is Mandriva. My question: has anyone or is anyone running this card in Mandriva & if so how is it? any gotcha's? I noticed on Matrox website that they have beta drivers for Linux. Any feed back will be much appreciated. btw im running KDE 3.3.2 TIA
  17. Hi all, I wonder if someone could help me with creating a script which will backup my .Mail folder & another non-hidden folder, then ftp it within my lan to another pc (ftp server - XP). I would like to automate this via say 'cron' to carry out the tack every night. Ive STF & googled, but its left me a little confused ( I have downloaded 'ncftp' & will have a little read of the man pages).. TIA EDIT: Ok I've managed to create the above request. Here's what I did for anyone in a similair position. I installed ncftp-3.1.8-1mdk.i586.rpm then created the following script #!/bin/sh DATETMP=`date +%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S` cd /home/user1 tar czf /home/user1/backup.tar-$DATETMP.gz \ /home/user1/.Mail \ /home/user1/documents \ ncftpput -u username -p password -V -DD ftp.name.com / /home/user1/mail-backup.tar-$DATETMP.gz then I added this to cron. I have to add that this is not secure as the username & password will be sent over cleartext, & the file will reside on your PC. My situation is that I am protected by a hardware firewall & both PC's are on the lan (local & DMZ) so I'm not worried instance. HTH

    sshd & WAN

Hi, Ive installed openssh server & client on a MDK 2005 LE box. All works fine internally (LAN), I can ssh into the MDK box & logon etc... I have a smoothwall firewall & have port forwarded my DYNS to the MDK box (ive also forwarded webmin to the same box with no success ethier!!). I then use putty with the DNS address & I can see that it resolves to my current IP address, then then I recieve an error stating that the connection was "reset by peer" Ive checked my firewall logs & noticed this sshd fatal: Timeout before authentication for 192.168.X.X . I have also STF & added sshd:ALL to the hosts.allow file, checked the sshd_config file (don't really know what im looking for here but it looked alright from a logical point of view :-) ) Im now at a loss as to what to do or check & any ideas will be gratefully accepted.. & as stated ssh'ing from a LAN pc works fine.. My security setting for MDK are set to "standard" TIA
  19. Cheers ppl for the replies. Yeah I thought it wasn't possible but not %100 sure. I RDP'ed into a WinXP I have on the Lan & from there ran NMap... & no sshd or webmin ports opened... so I guess I will have to get someone to start the daemon from home.... thanks again for the replies
  20. Yeah cheers for that. I don't have NMap on my firewall. I've got a feeling that i've not started the sshd on my LE. So my question is can I start it remotely?
  21. Hi all, I wonder if anyone can help with this problem or if it is at all possible. I have a Mandriva LE 2005 PC behind a firewall (Smoothwall) at home (UK) Im in Australia at the mo' & need to ssh into my LE 2005. So far how im doing this is by ssh'ing into my firewall, then from there trying to ssh into the LE. My problem is that Im not sure ( :-( ) if I have started the sshd on the LE ... Is there a way to start it or check to see if I have indeed started it? Ive googled with no luck TIA
  22. Hi there, Ive been using an USR805416 for over a year now with no problems whatsoever. It runs stable & with the appropiate Access point will run at 125mb. The driver installation is a breeze with Driverloader. I'm now on 2005 LE & all is running fine. Check the links out.. HTH
  23. Hi, just my 2 pence. I have Mandriva 2005 (upgraded) & a USR pci wireless card (chipset Texas Instruments ACX 111) All works flawlessly. I d/led Driverloader a rpm package from this website & the install is very easy indeed. The catch is that they charge for their driver UNLESS you own a ACX 111 chipset, in which case the driver is free... worth a thought maybe...
  24. What Laptop do you have? Make & model
