  1. I also remember having a similar issue on some distro & finally established that on that particular distro I also needed the .bin file which was also included in the windoze driver set. Once I put the .bin, .inf, & .sys all in one folder it worked... HTH
  2. Well Ive elected for 'good'. Which it is in comparison to FC5 it does all that & more stable (much more). Unfortunatley the printing side on 2007 is just not working (yet) & Ive read a few issues from other OPs who have had similar issues with printing.. All in all its still on my HD which can only be a 'good' thing ;)
  3. Well you learn something everyday (hopefully!). I never knew that the USA also mess with time like us here in the UK. The reason (apparently) that we do it, is so the farmers have more light in the winter to do their thing (i'm guessing crops, milking the cows etc). Personally never like it, in the times the clocks go back it gets darker a lot quicker (3-4pm). Which in turn creates more road accidents involving children, more robberies. :( Anyway Mandriva 2007 last night handled the UK time shift excellently... 1 min it was 1:50am then the next time i look it was 1:30am --very strange feeling-- ;)
  4. Hi there, Maybe as root type XFdrake then change your configuration. I would as a start change your graphic card to maybe vesa so that you can at least get logged in with a GUI. So 1st change the graphic driver, then as normal user type startx & see how you get on from there. From your screen shot it looks like you have an error with DRI.. HTH
  5. Hi there, I'm afraid I can't help but I have similar problems. My expierence is as follows: 1st. Same problem as yours when adding the printer (Deskjet 930c) through the MCC where the PC would freeze once I clicked on the add printer. 2nd. Rebooted, then checked if CUPS was started (service). It was not (hmm), OK started CUPS & went back to the add printer - Frooze!! 3rd. Rebooted & checked CUPS again - it was off again! Restarted the CUPS service then rebooted. 4th. Upon reboot went to add printer AGAIN & guess what .. lol it frooze (not even funny now) 5th. Rebooted & headed off to http://localhost:631. Here I did manged to add printer, but only root could print & on top of that the printer was just churning out page after page of a few characters. 6th. Headed back to MCC & guess what this time I could add the already added printer (via the web config), but again the printer was churning out paper. 7th. Rebooted (reminds me of my Windoze days) & again the printer was churning out pages of nothing. I then gave up... what a joke. Its a bloody printer not rocket science... I did try a few other things but the CUPS service would just stop when it wanted to & the paper coming out of the printer was very irrating to say the least. I've used Mandriva when it was called Mandrake as well as Mandriva 2005 & never had a problem with the printer. I did move distros for a while (Fedora 5) & again never had problems with the printer. Now back with Mandriva 2007 I find this a pain especially when everything else is running brilliantly... Conclusion: I will just wait till the distro matures a little or I find a solution (I'm not looking though as I have XP running in VMware & will do all printing from there for now..)
  6. Hi there, Have you tried to shutdown using the CLi (terminal) as root shutdown -h now then post what errors you are getting if any...
  7. Hi, Yes I do have two desktop folders (Desktop & Desktop1). I've also taken out the Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection as I realised that I don't need this (read that it may even cause problems) & since rebooted & all is fine (as far as I'm aware!!)
  8. Yep your right just looking for the kdetheme manager (which gets installed as default on Kubuntu & Fedora 5) then realised that I have to install it first. NP though its in there though just do a urpmi kdetheme & you should be good to go...
  9. Fixed the other issue now. Just renamed .kde. I agree with your logic with regards to 'clone' option but it doesn't seem to matter. I have two independant desktops now even though I didn't remove that option. Probably a wrong input which xorg doesn't recongnise. Anyway thanks for the pointers - Im now a happy dual'er again :D
  10. Thanks for the feedback. I managed to get it sorted. Here is the xorg.conf now that it is working # File generated by XFdrake (rev 57713) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "Multihead layout" Screen 0 "Screen0" LeftOf "Screen1" Screen 1 "Screen1" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse1" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard1" "CoreKeyboard" Option "Xinerama" "off" Option "Clone" "on" EndSection Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. Thanks again
  11. Hi all, Could somebody please, please take a look at my xorg.conf & tell me where i'm going wrong. The problem: I have dual view setup with seperate KDE start menus etc.. All is working fine besides one thing I can't get my mouse to move over to the other screen!. I've change the xorg by hand using bits from an old working xorg.conf from Fedora which was working. Carefully copying what seemed to be relevant to the new xorg.conf. Here's my current xorg.conf # File generated by XFdrake (rev 57713) # ********************************************************************** # Refer to the xorg.conf man page for details about the format of # this file. # ********************************************************************** Section "Files" # font server independent of the X server to render fonts. new DVD burner

I had similar problems with a new DVD/CDRom burner. After many hours playing with the settings & still not getting anywhere I decided to remove the DVD. Once removed I booted up Mandy 2006 & logged in then checked fstab & of course the entries for my DVD where removed. I then shut down placed the new DVD inside the case & booted once more .. & yep all is working fine now.. strange but true!! ;) HTH
  13. lol... well I hope you enjoy your stay in our very GREEN country. As for drink - no problem, practically a pub on every corner & I believe (not a drinker myself - more Amsterdam if you know what I mean!) that the law has changed now & pubs theoretically can open 24/7. Yeah London is a busy City which I'm sure will entertain all your needs but if you can you should try to visit Scotland & Wales which both are beautiful Countries in their own rights..
  14. with great difficulty.. :) from what I can remember I used Winimage. Ghost creates a bootdisc (server side) then used Winimage to inject the second disc, to create a 2.88 floppy image ( I think google will be your friend here ;) then used Nero to create a bootdisc.. Im from Manchester (Rain heaven!!) - a little confused here! your coming to the UK to watch the World cup which is being held in Germany! Anyway good luck...
  15. Sorry about such a delay (im away at the mo') anyway I use the corperate ghost 9 (off the top of my head). I have it installed on a Win 2003 sp1 DC. My Mandriva box is wireless but for this I use the inbulit nic. I then have created a ghost boot disk (which incidentally managed to get working from a boot cd - so much quicker) Then from there really is plain sailing. Once the image is complete I have the added bounus that I can open the image on the Win 2003 server & pick away at whatever file i need. Just as easy is the re-install of a backup. The only thing I need do after the backup is re-run lilo... very simple (for me) & convienient at the same time :D
  16. Haha, you saved my day. *rolling on the floor and laughing* Why the hell did you do that? Maybe the same reason I have to. In this World of ours (or Billies depending how you're looking at it) IE is the de-facto & some applications, or websites will only display & function correctly (correctly being their word!) in IE...
  17. On a day to day basis I use the following on a MDK 10.2 box - Internet (Firefox), Movies (Mplayer, Kaffiene), RDP (rdesktop & NXclient), FTP local - controlling Hardware Firewall - Smoothwall (gFTP), Crossover (Photoshop MSword :o ) SSH (my best proggie :D ) Superkaramba, GKRellm, ... This all sits on a Dell Optiplex P4, 1GB ram, 40GB HD, USR Wireless PCI using NDISwrapper (another ov my favourite apps..) CDRwriter/DVD-Rom
  18. Hi I have the same keyboard/mouse & was interested in the same as you. I tried many things & packages without any real success. The most I managed was a couple of keys or so (Email, Firefox etc) I did this using Lineak & all the plugins that go with it (seperate packages). Also it does pick up the correct keyboard. Unfortunately my Mandriva box is down at the mo' (hard drive failure) if you are intrested I can post you my copy of the configuration file once I purchase a new hard drive & ghost Mandriva back on... & heres a link for your reading http://lineak.sourceforge.net/index.php?nav=docs
  19. Hi, check your ifcfg-eth0 (or whatever you use ie: eth1, eth2 etc..) & make sure it states ONBOOT=yes within the file. It can be located at /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ You can issue the following command in a terminal session as root cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 & view the file. If you need to change it as a newbie I would suggest entering the following command in the terminal kdesu konqueror then the password for root. This will open konqueror as root. Then make your way to the eth0 file & open it with your editor (I use kwrite) change & save the file. Next time you boot it should then start your network connection. HTH & sorry if I sound condescending in any way..
  20. Sorry if im stating the obvious here but did you run the lilo command as root? ie: su then your password for root, then lilo -v
  21. Found this the other day Password Security This basically checks your password for strength HTH
  22. Hi, Dont know if this will help but I have a little script i run daily via cron which backs up certain folders & contents then transfers them over to another PC via ftp #!/bin/sh DATETMP=`date +%Y-%m-%d-%H-%M-%S` cd /home/user1 tar czf /home/user1/mail-backup.tar-$DATETMP.gz \ /home/user1/.Mail \ /home/user1/documents \ ncftpput -u USERNAME -p PASSWORD -V -DD 192.XXX.X.X / /home/user1/mail-backup.tar-$DATETMP.gz & yes I use ncftpput.. HTH
  23. I all, I have done a FTP install onto my laptop. I only installed the bare & omitted KDE as I wont to install 3.5 once all was ready. Anyway install went fine & I rebooted. I then from the cli changed the repositories to cooker (for KDE 3.5) & proceeded with the install of KDe (kdebase, config etc..) once this installed & rebooted I can not find mcc. I have tried from the cli with no luck I also tried drakconf with no luck. Can someone tell me how i can install mcc please. Yet I can use certain commands like XFdrake... also I have the ugliest login screen ever... how can I get kdm? TIA
