  1. Try running Amarok from the command line. This will allow you to see error messages.
  2. Try running konqueror as root. From the command line kdesu konqueror
  3. First question. Try specifying that the service harddrake does not start on boot. Do this from MCC -> System -> Manage system services.....
  4. This is correct, The Live CD gives you KDE.
  5. Well, the truth is, I have never used mondo  We have a member here named RVDowning who has some expertise with mondo.
  6. Scarecrow is suggesting that the gcc compiler needs to be installed first. Have you setup your repositories so that you can download and install software? Is gcc installed?
  7. I recently installed Mandriva 2008, and the NVidia driver was automatically installed for me. The NVidia driver should be installed automatically (using dkms) during the Mandriva 2008 OS install. Make sure your video card is properly recognized and everything should just work out of the box.
  8. I have resolved my sluggishness problem caused by the kernel update. The sluggishness was actually a momentary mouse freezing under any kind of CPU load. The newer kernel appears to have problems with my KVM switch. When I added psmouse.proto=exps to the append line of lilo.conf my problems went away. Sometimes life seems too complicated.... ;) These are the errors in /var/log/messages that help me resolve the problem: Feb 14 22:20:26 localhost kernel: psmouse.c: bad data from KBC - timeout Feb 14 22:20:26 localhost kernel: psmouse.c: Wheel Mouse at isa0060/serio1/input0 lost synchronization, throwing 1 bytes away. Feb 14 22:20:27 localhost kernel: psmouse.c: resync failed, issuing reconnect request
  9. I have had some trouble with mcc freezing momentarily on my 2008 install. Can you elaborate?
  10. Just to add to this I have posted in the Mandriva Club forum. I will let everyone here know what response I get. http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=80415
  11. I too updated my Mandriva 2008 last night. The kernel updates did not seem to create any problems for my old-school GeForce2 video card. However, with the new kernel(s) installed, my system is sssllloowww and unresponsive. All was well before the updates.....
  12. Thanks for the response Jon. As I indicated in a previous post, I am content using the Motorola software under Windows on those few occasions when I need to offload pictures. Most of this offloading involves my wife and her pictures. She is more comfortable using Windows anyway.
  13. Hmmm. My phone settings are identical to what you described, and this is the default setting since I have not changed it . The difference between you and I is that I have an empty card-slot.
  14. Is there anything of interest in /var/log/messages? I wish I could help more but all of my laptop experience is with (K)Ubuntu.
  15. Jon: In an earlier post, you indicated you have a v3xx. Where is the storage device setting you speak of? I cannot seem to locate it on any of the menus from my AT&T v3xx. My current status is that I am able to download/upload to my phone from Win2K using the Motorola software. This is adequate for my needs. However, I am curious about the storage device setting you speak of. Recall that I do not have a supplementary card like you do.
  16. The newest driver available from the NVidia website is version: 169.09 This version has a powermizer feature to minimize energy use that has hampered performance for some users. Have a look at this forum: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/index.php? I do not believe the 1.0-9755 driver you are using has powermizer, and that may be a good thing.
  17. Assuming you are using KDE. Here is where sound is configured in my Mandriva 2005 system. Control Center -> Sound & Multimedia -> Sound System can you play a test sound?
  18. There is a card slot in the back of the phone that is empty. So it does appear that I could expand the phones capacity by buying and installing a card.
  19. The phone does not have a card. I verified this by removing the back cover.
  20. To update regarding the moving of pictures off of my RAZR V3xx: I decided against P2kCommander for Windows. This phone hacker software just made me wary. On the linux side, it appears that moto4lin does not support the V3xx. I am ashamed to admit this here, but I have given up and installed the motorola phone tools software. Moving pictures to and from the phone is easy.
  21. When I first installed Mandrake 10.0 back in 2004 or so, one of the first things I did was trash my system by removing some fonts.
  22. ModMyMoto suggests P2kCommander for Windows. This will sound irrational, but the download website (http://s5vi.vxxxstuff.com/) has so much bling that I am apprehensive..... From a linux point of view, the program of choice looks to be moto4lin. However, this software does not appear to support the V3xx from what I have read so far. I think I will take a break from this project and get back to it in a few days. All of this seems unnecessarily complicated.
