  1. I am using FF3 (downloaded directly from mozilla.com) with Mandriva 2008.0/KDE and I have not seen these font problems. Can you provide a link to a web page that exhibits the poor fonts?

  3. angst: Your motherboard houses 2 cpu's? I am using a A7M266 (single processor) motherboard with a XP2100 cpu. Old school!
  4. Is your BIOS configured to allow you to boot from a DVD?
  5. Welcome to the board! B) Perhaps the DVD you burned is corrupt? I would try burning a new one. What kind of error are you seeing when you try to install?
  6. If you first install the packages mentioned by the YinYeti, then you will be able to install the NVidia drivers using the command line as you mention in the original post. The only advantage to this method is you can get the latest driver.

  8. Do you know how to open a terminal screen? In KDE this is called Konsole From Konsole, type the path and then firefox. My firefox is installed in /opt/firefox/ so I would type /opt/firefox/firefox
  9. Run firefox from the command line. There may be some error messages to be seen using this approach.
  10. If you are a KDE user, Kaffeine is a good choice to watch DVD's.

  12. Me too. This is a nice easy clean approach. I also use a user.js file in a similar manner to keep all my firefox preferences.
  13. My Mandriva 2008.0 system also quickly uses up all available RAM. I think this a good thing as the OS is caching aggressively.
  14. My firefox bookmarks are in ~/.mozilla/firefox/nx9q1abq.default/bookmarks.html. Perhaps you can cut and past using this file.
  15. You are right, that is cheesy So Fedora 9 does not have the KDE 3 desktop, instead shipping with KDE 4.0.3. I wonder how stable things are?
  16. Are there any error messages in /var/log/messages? Have you tried adjusting the volume using kmix?
  17. You should only use 2008.1 rpms on a 2008.1 system. To do anything else is to invite trouble. What 2008.0 rpms are you having trouble locating?

  19. Greg: Thanks for the reply. I have liblame0 (main library for lame​) installed from plf, but that is all. When I go to K3b settings and list the installed plugins, I do not see anything mp3 related.
  20. Mandriva 2008 user here. I am able to rip ogg files from audio CD's using K3b. However, I am not able to rip mp3 files. Is there a k3b plugin missing from Mandriva's k3b?

  23. Firefox 2.0.0.14 and Shockwave Flash 9.0 r115 working fine here on Mandriva 2008.
  24. Running firefox from the command line might give you a diagnostic error message to work with.
