  1. The only thing I can think of that could maybe do it is "Audacity". If you don't have it, 'urpmi audacity' and then try opening the file in there. I don't know whether it supports mp3, but i would imagine so. otherwise just download a plugin.
  2. Is there no one on this forum that can help me....?

    Need Help with FLUXBOX

Yeah... but where do you put that command line, I mean surely there is a file that needs editing before it will just start automatically...!!
  5. Ok, I have a whole lot of dockapps but how to get them running in the slit, well yes, that I am not sure about. Can you run them automatically when the WM starts or do you have to start them manually...?

    rpmdrake

Update your urpmi database.... get a list from my site...>>> http://stormvii.cjb.net/urpmi.html Then try using urpmi again...!!
  7. To clear something up for you. Linux can READ an NTFS partition but it cannot yet write to NTFS partition securely. While it can write you stand the chance of losing all your data on the NTFS partition and is therefore only recommended for developers. In fact if I'm not mistaken MDK9 wont allow you to, I dont think it's built into the kernel. I think you'll have to rebuild your kernel first before you'll be able to write to an NTFS partition. Are you sure XP needs to be in the first 8GBs... I think they may have fixed that. When you install XP however it doesn't let you specify. You'll have to partition your drive with Linux first in order to put XP at the end of the drive, and then XP will re-write your MBR then not allowing you to boot into Linux. You'll have to use the windows boot manager then to boot into Linux and I'm not sure how you'd do that. The other option would be to use a 3rd party boot manager, but what for. Just put XP first, Linux last. I must also mention that the NTFS file system is VERY slow, the FAT32 file system is much faster..... OK well that's my input... If I'm in any way wrong about the XP being able to go after the 8GB mark please tell me. Someone thats tried...!! -AA

    rpmdrake

I agree totally. rpmdrake freezes with me too. I preffer to use urpmi, because when you use urpmi, it also installs any dependencies automatically without any issues. My only problem is that I dont have net access at home, so if i wanna do upgrading to mdk and stuff I have to bring my pc to the university, which gets tedious. I hope urpmi rubs off on other distros.

    DNS problems

Where must that go....??? /var/named/yourdomain ???? I have this in /var/named/xxxnet.co.za I hashed out ip's and changed the domain name of my network to xxxnet.co.za for my own network safety. (for obvious reasons) But the www points to the the ip of the web-server and the others to their respective ips and stuff...!! The ISP dude said I should do this, which I did and it still aint working. He then said I should just use his DNS server and then I should be able to pick up our page... tried that, set the DNS address to his server and that also is not working.... HELP !!
  11. OK, I have no idea. I've never had to do anything like that. I thought squidguard might be able to help, but I guess not. Someone else might maybe know. But when you eventually find out how to do it please will you document it and I'll put it up on my site.

    DNS problems

Well could you please tell me how to set the DNS server then, because I have been trying all sorts of weird things to get it to work and I am not being succesful. What exactly must I do in order to set the DNS server to point to a different host...??
  16. Quite honestly, I don't think it's possible. But hey who knows. Why don't you just mount straight from machine A to B without going through the server. I mean, why do you want it to.?

    DNS problems

My network hosts it's web page with the ISP while our mail comes directly to us. Lets call the web page www.zasco.co.za The server qwerty.zasco.co.za The server acts as a firewall, proxy, gateway, dns, mail and a couple of others including http. Now when logged in at a workstation, if you type www.zasco.co.za in you browser address bar you get a returned message saying the page cannot be displayed. The server says, wait a minute, my name is zasco.co.za but there is no web page here and hence the error message. Now, what I want to know is, what must I do in order to get the workstations behind the server to view the web page. The server is not a mandrake box, its an e-smith box and the workstations are all win2K machines. Can someone help...?

    Multiple ISP's

It is definatly do-able... much configuration will have to take place from your side though... hmmm yes... No idea what you'd use either... try combination squid and squidguard i guess could work... otherwise... no idea...!!
  20. Well the fact that you can ping a windows machine in your network just means one of two things. 1) there is an entry for that machine in /var/hosts <<OR>> 2) you have a dns server that told your linux box the ip of the windows box 'cc'. Your proxy might be running a dns server. Now as for the log files.... that is a good question. Could you post that part of the log file please. make it 10 lines above to 10 lines below the point where you see cc trying to access you samba shares. If its too big james@tuksfm.co.za is my mail address. Also, you should be running some kind of firewall. Check the logs for that. But yeah. let me know what you find
  21. How True, How True....!! I can just hear them now:
  22. To see what error pops up when I try and view the page..!
  23. For what its worth I had trouble dialing up with kppp too. When I switched and used another one (can't remember which one) the internet was a) unbelievably fast, and B) unbelievably stable. My recommendation: Use a different app to dial.

    Mailman attachments

Well the problem was similar not quite exactly as SoulSe said. Our mail server would recieve mail but just didn't deliver it. http://stormvii.cjb.net/qmail.html to see the exact problem and how I fixed it. In the end it boiled down to file permissions on certain files. Have you checked your log files. /var/log/ might still be another directory below that eg. /var/log/mailman/ Be sure to check out /var/log/messages first though. There must be something in the log files.
