  1. I had a similar problem discussed in this thread
  2. I will try installing the latest ALSA drivers. The weird thing is when I first boot up, Aumix will be Muted (under the menu) even though everything shows up as 100%. Upon opening Kmix, I find that the 3D Surround is turned off as well. I have to manually turn on my sound each time. Is this another bug?
  3. Yes, the volume is low even when speaker volume is at max.
  4. I tried both drivers and still get the same thing. The volume is very low and I have set everything in Aumix to 100%. Is it also possible to get sound from both my front/rear speakers too?
  5. cat /proc/modules: lp 8096 0 parport_pc 25096 1 parport 34176 1 [lp parport_pc] af_packet 14952 1 (autoclean) sr_mod 16920 0 (autoclean) floppy 55132 0 bcm4400 30432 1 (autoclean) nls_cp850 4316 1 (autoclean) vfat 11820 1 (autoclean) fat 37944 0 (autoclean) [vfat] nls_iso8859-1 3516 2 (autoclean) ntfs 76812 1 (autoclean) supermount 15296 3 (autoclean) ide-cd 33856 0 cdrom 31648 0 [sr_mod ide-cd] tuner 11744 1 (autoclean) bttv 78496 0 videodev 7872 3 [bttv] i2c-algo-bit 9064 1 [bttv] i2c-core 21192 0 [tuner bttv i2c-algo-bit] soundcore 6276 0 [bttv] ide-scsi 11280 0 scsi_mod 103284 2 [sr_mod ide-scsi] ehci-hcd 18568 0 (unused) usb-uhci 24652 0 (unused) usbcore 72992 1 [ehci-hcd usb-uhci] rtc 8060 0 (autoclean) ext3 59916 2 jbd 38972 2 [ext3] I followed your steps and now have sound coming from the front speakers (but not from the rear). Is it supposed to be like that? Also, the sound is very soft and sounds a bit distorted (maybe because I have the volume set high). I have set the volume to 100% in Aumix, KMix, XMMS, and my speakers. Here is what etc/modules.conf looks like: probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd alias eth0 bcm4400 alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 #options bttv radio=0 card=34 gbuffers=4 #above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss #options i810_audio spdif_locked=int strict_clocking=int ftsodell=int clocking=int above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss Edit: With Kmix open, when I hover the mouse over the speaker icon in the panel, is displays a label saying "Volume 31%" even though the volume slider is all the way to the top. I am thinking this is my problem but don't know where to set it to 100%.
  6. cat /etc/modules.conf gives me: probeall scsi_hostadapter ide-scsi probeall usb-interface usb-uhci ehci-hcd alias eth0 bcm4400 alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 options bttv radio=0 card=34 gbuffers=4 above snd-emu10k1 snd-pcm-oss options i810_audio spdif_locked=int strict_clocking=int ftsodell=int clocking=int above snd-intel8x0 snd-pcm-oss Is there something wrong with this? I am not hearing any sound at all now.[/code]

I can't change it to ALSA. My volume is also turned up.
  8. It was harddrake2. When I click on the Soundcard and then Configure module, I get a pop-up box to enter 4 things: ftsodell, clocking, strict_clocking, spdif_locked. What am I supposed to do? Sorry, I'm quite new with Linux.
  9. I could not run harddrake (command not found). How do I configure alsa? I'm not sure if I have it installed.
  10. Draksound says it is using the snd-intel8x0 (Intel 82801AA,82901AB,i810,i820,i830,i840,i845,MX440; SiS 7012; Ali 5455) driver. I don't know where to configure alsa
  11. I have Mandrake 9.1 installed but there is only sound coming from the rear speakers and not from the front. I am using the onboard SoundMax sound on my P4PE with my Logitech Z-540 speakers. How do I get it working?
  12. Thanks, that solved the problem but the installation wizard doesn't look that great. Does this mean it will look like that even after installing Mandrake?
  13. Yeah the CD boots to that screen. I press Enter to install and that is when I get the blank screen.
  14. I have downloaded the Mandrake 9.1 CDs and verified each ISO. Now when I go try and install, I only get a blank screen with my Caps lock and Scroll lock keys flashing. Is there an incompatability error? Intel P4 1.8A GHz Asus P4PE 1GB PC2700 Maxtor DM+9 60GB (17GB WinXP NTFS, 40GB free FAT32) Radeon 9500 Pro Lite-On LTD-166S/HP 9110i
  15. I remove my NTFS and then create 2 FAT32 partitions using drake. Why do I then need to remove the 10gig? Also are all these allocate/mount commands built in the graphical installer (I don't need to type in commands right)?
