    MYSQL server

I would recommend using Apache for display webpages, mysql for your database, and proftp for your file transfer protocol. You can also control of these using webmin You can select Apache, Mysql, and Prodtp from the server packages when you install Mandrake 10,0 Official. To get webmin: Once you install mandrake, open up a terminal such a xterm or gnome terminal and type. Su <enter root password> urpmi webmin and that'll install webmin for you. Then just start webmin as a service in Mandrake Control Center> System > Services. You can then configure your server at https://localhost:10000 Best of luck, SwiftDeath
  2. I am using cedega and it works for me with Warcraft III and Medal Of Honor: Breakthrough.
  3. I use beep-media-player which is basically just a rewrite of xxms, so it works better with a lot less bugs and stuff. Most of the xmms plug-ins work with it too.
  4. Hmm I made some more changes. And It works a little bit better and goes a bit father. This is what I got so far. Hmmm the only problems are the cd-rom doesn't close. And I also don't know how to make sure it burned right. I won't be able to test eitheir until I rip the isos off my Mandrake Cds. Thanks for help, SwiftDeath
  5. Cool, we beat windows in most of those tests.
  6. Lol and every 2 years you'd have to upgrade your brain or your body wouldn't work.
  7. Thats almost starting to sound like Microsoft.... Automatic Updates..... Constant Updates. Oh well, hopefull its for the best.
  8. Yeah, My grandaddy used to say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Their are ways to speed things up like tweaking your firefox, or chaning your ip version and stuff. BTW
  9. Hello, I've decided its about time to give something back, and I'm trying to write a shell script that'll automatically check all 3 Mandrake Isos md5checksums and if their good then burn them. Since this is my first script I'm running into trouble. Here is what I got so far. The second paragraph is where It'll check the md5sums. I'd also like to try and get it too check the md5 checks sums of the cd right after it burns them. Please feel free to leave any critism that you like. If you see a better way of doing something or lots of flaws, please tell me, Thanks, SwiftDeath [moved from Terminal Shell Commands, etc by spinynorman]
  10. I found this really interesting. This is a article about Micrsoft trying to patent the ability to send electronic signals through your body using your sweat. Article Here Jeez, when are they gonna stop? What are they gonna try to steal from us next? Our brains?
  11. I have an ATI 7000 and their is in DRI section in xfree86 file. I can run Quake 3, but not mohaa or the unreal tournament 2004 demo. Best of luck, SwiftDeath
  12. Hey Robf, Have you ever tried Lycoris, Linspire, or Libranet? I dled Xandros and tried it out, and I agree it was easy, but I need something more complex. I also dled Lycoris and Linspire. I am trying to find the easiest distro for my family. Oh yeah, best of wishes with your problems and try not to delete your whole entire hard drive, SwiftDeath
  13. Is easier than lycois, xandros, or linspire? I am trying to find the easiest distro possible and then I'll write a guide. I currently am trying xandros and I'm currently dling Xandros and Linspire this second.
  14. Be vary carefull, if you read my partition modifyer post, I made a very big mistake and deleted all of my harddrive. But in the end it turned out for the better.
  15. If you can't get samba to work, you can always just use plain old ftp. I only got samba to work 1/2 the time, but try that first. I'd recommend using webmin to manage samba
  16. This easier than Lycoris, Xandors or Linspire? I am trying to find free really easy to use distros with no cli involved at all for some of my family members. I want to try and get them into linux.
  17. You might wanna try a different music player. I use beep-media-player and its alot more stable. Most xmms plugins and skins work with it, too.
  18. Hmm, switching it to alsa for me helped it also!

    ogo

Yeah theirs also lots of other rpm sites, too.
  20. AT LAST ITS SOLVED!!! I got some help from a guy named HauntedUnix in an IRC channel called #mandrake on irc.freenode.net He read this post and had many suggestions, but luckily one of them hit us both rich. He suggested downling libpng2 externally from this link: http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idp...k.i586.rpm.html That fixed the problem and allowed me to continue thru step 3 and all the way to Step 5. I caught this later the fact that it was installing my printer with a parallel port and not usb (the way its connected). After that I changed it to USB. And it printed the test page fine. So now my printer works, and I can become totally windows-less once I reconfigure my ATI 7000. Thanks so much guys, I owe you all a lot
  21. Amen I know this is gonna sound funny. But if we someone just updated the XMLTV to the latest version, you'd be able to install all of mythtv without any configuration (just finetuning and the database). Which one be nice because mythtv cannot be installed via urpmi at the moment. I checked their site but their all just Red Hat RPMS. Also, maybe a rpm for the most recent firefox? (0.9) Hmm... Also NVU would be a nice rpm, alot of people are using that editor now, including me. And I think it deserves its nice little own rpm.
  22. Nope I typed that as root in console, and it appeared successfull, but when I went back to Step 3 to install that rpm, I got the same error message. Anyone else got any ideas?
  23. I am so close to solving this issue. And I'll be able to print at last. I found a tutorial on another site and it turns out that I need to install 2 rpms, and I only installed 1. Heres the tutorial so you maybe be able to help me. (You can skip reading if, its just added info, for reference.) So anyways when get to step 3 and type this: I get this error: So I try to get that library via urpmi.... Heres what I get: As you can see its already installed and the specefic one I need doesn't exist. Can someone help me I beleive once I get that library and install that library it will fiinally work. Thanks so much, SwiftDeath
  24. Lets hope they didn't emulate it. That'd be very dumb, indeed.
  25. Yeah! And it also fixed my burner! And I also installed everything more clean.
