  1. I am REALLY looking forward to this one. Splashdamage did great with enemy territory. The doom3 engine rocks, and IDsoftware sure won't make this title go to waste. I think this will be the first game with vechles that won't make the fault making the tanks too good. (witch battlefield 1942, 2 and unreal 2k4 did ). And because it is an ID title, it will have good mac and linux support. YEY!
  2. I have been seaching the net for a wile looking for ways to get my trust wireless 1200 tablet working in mandriva 2005. It seams to me that the trust tablets, just like many other brands, are clones of the aiptek tablet series. There are two awailible drivers for the aiptek series. nr.1 nr. 2 For the users of x.org, for example me, only nr.1 is sutible because nr. 2 there does only support xfree86. *sad* So I installed with a simple: tar xvjf "filename" su "password" cd unifined_package ./aiptek-installer.pl witch gave this output: [root@s064b unified_package]# ./aiptek-installer.pl 1°. [OK] found major kernel version=2.6 [OK] aiptek.c exists for this kernel version [OK] we'll have to gzip the module 2°. [OK] using /usr/src/linux for kernel sources [OK] no X source dir specified, I'll use prebuilt driver 3°. [OK] aiptek.c copied in the kernel source tree [OK] modules dependancies correctly generated [OK] module successfully compiled [OK] module copied [OK] Your .config is in your kernel source tree 4°. [OK] a prebuilt X driver exist for your running kernel [OK] prebuilt driver copied in you X path there I stopped up. The docs doesn't contain good howtos, todos, readmes, etc, so I have no idea how to handle it. help anyone?

    install VLC

in Windows I liked using a videoplayer called video LAN or jus VLC. Gladly this program has good linuxsupport. it even has a mandrake installpage. I have read the this, but I didn't really get how to do it. What is really contrib and plf? Do I have that? Do I install it just by typing the last line into the console. thanks for all help Edit: and for you all: I think you should try this player. It is easy to use. Has a lot of functionality(hotkeys and fast forward in all films) and it has a simple but usefull GUI. In windows it also has the best driversuppot I have ever tryed. use VLC ;) www.videolan.org

    VIA Audio

I have the same problem eatch time I reinstall to. I am using a this asus card. I have to type : modprobe <drivername> or in my and your case: modprobe via82cxxx_audio It always works.
  5. Because of sone bad stabilityproblems with xmms, I decided to reinstall it. Finding the setup at sourceforge was peace of kake, but when I tryed to configure the setup i got. [root@znora i586]# ls libglib1.2-1.2.10-6mdk.i586.rpm libglib1.2-devel-1.2.10-6mdk.i586.rpm [root@znora i586]# urpmi libglib1.2-1.2.10-6mdk.i586.rpm The following packages have to be removed for others to be upgraded: libglib1.2-1.2.10-11mdk.i586 (in order to install libglib1.2-1.2.10-6mdk.i586) (y/N) y installing libglib1.2-1.2.10-6mdk.i586.rpm removing libglib1.2-1.2.10-11mdk.i586 Preparing... ################################################## 1:libglib1.2 ################################################## Ok. So I went to www.rpmfind.com and figured out that last verson of glib buildt for mandrake was v 1.2.1 or so. (at least before 1.2.2. don't remember exactly) So I built form source v 2.3.5 [root@znora Documents]# urpmi glib-2.3.5-1.i386.rpm The following packages have bad signatures: glib-2.3.5-1.i386.rpm: Invalid signature (md5 (GPG) (MISSING KEY) GPG#e01260f1 NOT OK) Do you want to continue installation ? (y/N) y installing glib-2.3.5-1.i386.rpm Preparing... ################################################## 1:glib ################################################## I still get the same error under configuring. What have I done wrong?
  6. I need CVS to be able to install winex. It also seams to be a frequently used to install programs on over the net. I found this webpage that explains the prosess, but due to the use of difficult wocabulary ++, i didn't get a damn thing out of it. so I have 2 questinos: 1. does it have to be that hard? 2. Are ther any other tutorials out there, and do I need them`?
  7. Made that to. Great! tomorrow I will write a tutoreal on the subject.(with a link to this page I used) If you don't mind writing you'r won. You probebly know the subject better than me.
  8. ûberthanks streeter. My internet how works. I followed the tutoreal and managed to set up a DHCP connection. :D so I am quite happy with what I managed, but I have got 2 questions: 1. I found this rather complicated. I thought setting up a simple internetconnection with 1 pc, 1 switch and 1 router would be a simple thing to do. Is this a standard prosedyre that often have to be done to set up a linux system? 2. Sadly I only managed to connect via IP. www.google.com woun't work. Not kopete either. On the guide u gave me it stands that this is a DNS problem. I don't even know what DNS is. Can u help me?
  9. Using mdk 10 community ofcourse. this is a mdk forum after all. good answers. thanks 1. So how do I install a new networkcard then? (I am not too good in linux yet, so be spesific)
  10. rc-update remove hotplug didn't work. thanks for all help. I have a netgear FA311(or fa312) also. 1. Would it be just PnP to insert this? 2. can I make this card be eth0? 3. how do I stop the integrated card from searching for network at boot if this cars works?
  11. I was stupid enough to turn on hotplug last time I formatted. I should'nt have done it because now my PC slows down 10 secs at boot. And it also won't shut down at all. :( anyone? I also have got a integrated networkcard called via rhine II in this motherboard. It won't work at all. It doesn't start up at boot, and I have no sign of connection. I have tryed modprobeing it, but it didn't help. On the asus homepage I found a driver for it, but it was only for the 2.4 kernel, and I won't change kernel. My card is connected to a standard switch with internet, and 2 other windows PCs.

    modem setup in mdk 10

It is a well known fact that getting modems working can be real hard, and I would rather promise you that it is not going to work than the opposite. But still there are somting you should do: 1. check out Pckard Bells homepage. 2. check out http://linmodems.org/. I actually got that recomended in the mdk 10 install for my card. 3. So you should now have read his page, and maybe you have got and idea of what kind om modem you have. If not you should check out this modemdatabase. There you need the chipset or manifactur of your modem. It would probebly lead you in the right direction. 4. If anything goes wrong : google it! Anyway: come back and tell us how it goes.
  13. Any official quicktime codec for linux? any unofficial? do they work any good? and where van I find them?
  14. For the very first time of my life I felt bad for all these years of warezing, and I have been doing it a LOT. It is not often I really have liked the stuff I have downloaded, and I don't think I would have bought moste of that software anyway, so they haven't really lost that much on me.;| Another aspect is:does it really make any difference? I remember bying a CD i had in mp3 once. Afterwords I have wondered if it really made any difference. The music industry have, in a kind of way, been through quite ruff times lately(First with napster. later with kazaa and stuff). Still moste of the music companies have been doing great. And how many $ of that 15$ CD do you think went to the band? 1 or 2 maybe? Iron maiden(witch were the band I bought the cd of) have enough anyway. I need those cash more than them. Even thoug I probebly have I higher life standard than an avrage Philippinese person, I do not earn more pocketmoney every week than what you earn in 1 day ramfree17. For me going to my parents asking for money to sofware would be like entering hell. And as moste software here in Norway costs min 50$(the ms office costs 600$) I would probebly have used around at least 2000$ on software each year. To me it is impossible to get a job. Not only are the employers more interested in grownups. As a hard working student I don't have time for working exept school. I think may people, espesially kids and youngsters have the same problems as me. Software is simply to expensive for us. And for you ramfree: It is not that I don't think you deserve any better, but as the realistic person I am I don't think that the entre population of the world can live with a western lifestandard. When the day where the differenses is going to be "straightened out" between people in USA, Europe and Africa Asia ++ I will fight for keeping the qualeties I am living under today. From Andreas [ironic] a Fat, posh and welthy young norwegian. [/ironic] Are wee a bit to oftopic now?
  15. U all probebly know what an ISO is. some of u, including me, knows how to mount a standard .iso file to using the mount command in the console. sadly moste imagefiles on the web are in other formats. Espesially the cue and bin files are frequently used. The mountcommand doesn't support these formats, and therefor ve need need software go get it. After a little googling I managed to find a chript supporting cue, bin, nrg(nero format), ccd(clone cd) and many more. "mount-iso-image-0.9.tar.bz2"(the program var probebly named mostely the same.) this chript used a program called cdemu to run. After unziping it I got some fat errors while trying to install it: [root@localhost cdemu-0.6_beta]# make make -C /lib/modules/2.6.3-4mdk/build SUBDIRS=/home/andreas/cdemu-0.6_beta modules make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.3-4mdk' *** Warning: Overriding SUBDIRS on the command line can cause *** inconsistencies make[2]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date. (yes I rebooted as I told me to int he INSTALL) Ok . not supriseingly, it didn't work. Any ideas what it can be? So what are u doing with your cue + bin files.? I would be happy get a recomadation for a better program. I can't answer in a week because of a trip to crete, but I would be glad if u discussed the subject. I happy ofr all the help I can get. :P
