  1. Tried every compatible mode, and still no go for either Retail or Shareware. There must be someway of extracting the data from the files without running the installer hmmmmmmmmmmmm ??/
  2. After playing around with the SDL src RPMs I finally got the ROTT CVS to compile properly so that it will play the retail, but now an even bigger problem as come up (Friggin Bloatware Problem). I was attempting to install the Retail on my wifes XP puter, but the installer will not run in XP. I downloaded the Shareware 1.3 just to make sure it had not gone corrupt on me, but even the Shareware will not install in XP. Anyone know why this is ?

    Doom 3 4 Linux

Bring it on baby, a linux game is a another linux game, I will try anything as long as it is native linux :) Gives me a better chance at kicking some ass !!
  4. Linux Games mentioned something about it perhaps being voted on for porting I think, kinda hazy on that one. Graphics rock though :) Reminds me of Monster Truck Madness.
  5. Game looks awesome :) I am sure a few will be playing this one.
  6. Why would anyone want to use Telnet ? 1. Password in the clear and can be obtained using a sniffer, 2. SSH is encrypted and very secure, 3. SSH comes with Mandrake also. Getting the point ? I would not recommend using telnet unless it is REALLY, REALLY required. :D
  7. The reason why everything is locked down, is because it acts more like a real firewall, than other FW programs and the default setting is "deny all". You have to enable services/ports such as POP/SMTP/DNS/HTTP(S) in order for you to access the your ISP and get out onto the internet, then you can begin to create various Zones and custom rules for the services (ie. games, programs) that are not available in the rules settings (ie. Halflife, Quake, IRC, MSN, ICQ). I had to create my own for some of the programs or servers that I run and wanted people to have access to (ie. UT2003 Dedicated Server).
  8. Yepper, just got all the latest yesterday, both using RPMFIND and going directly to the libsdl and sdl_mixer sites. They installed fine and I was able to get the make to run, but then I ran into the above snag.
  9. hmmmm Funny that ppl have have it running, but I am not a programmer either, will email error to icculus and team and see what they say. Thanks.
  10. I have been trying for days to get the ROTT source code compiled, I had all the proper SDL packages installed, but still unable to compile the code in order to get the Retail game working. Here is the error I get when I run the "make" command with both CVS and Release code; fx_man.c:1161: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_PausedMusic' fx_man.c:1162: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_ResumeMusic' fx_man.c: In function `MUSIC_Pause': fx_man.c:1170: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_PauseMusic' fx_man.c: In function `MUSIC_StopSong': fx_man.c:1183: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_HaltMusic' fx_man.c:1186: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_FreeMusic' fx_man.c: In function `MUSIC_PlaySongROTT': fx_man.c:1237: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_LoadMUS' fx_man.c:1237: warning: assignment makes pointer from integer without a cast fx_man.c:1242: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_PlayMusic' fx_man.c: In function `MUSIC_FadeVolume': fx_man.c:1292: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_FadeOutMusic' fx_man.c: In function `MUSIC_FadeActive': fx_man.c:1299: warning: implicit declaration of function `Mix_FadingMusic' fx_man.c:1299: `MIX_FADING_OUT' undeclared (first use in this function) make: *** [fx_man.o] Error 1 Any ideas why this is happening ?
  11. It has been many years since I have played Kingpin in linux ... pre Mandrake 6, and I had a 3DFx vid card (I miss those cards), and pre XFree 3.3.x. So yesterday and today I felt like playing it in Mandrake 9 with my current NVIDIA card, I wanted to see how just how much faster it would run, but now it is not as easy as I remembered to setup the game to run in Linux. I tried to go to the Frag site to download some information, but the site is currently being restructured, and I am not finding any instructions other than the README that came with the file. Heck they were the ones, with no new additions. Does anyone have this running in Mandrake 9 ? Using a G4 Ti 4600 and with latest NVidia drivers ? Does anyone have a link with instructions on how to get it going in Mandrake 9 ? Thanks.
  12. Found this little article this morning, this is for those who are getting impatient :) http://www.linuxcompatible.org/compdet.php?id=10468
  13. Yes a good firewall will block access to printer ports, it is a service just like any other service that runs in any OS. You may want to manually add the printer port to your LAN settings only. 515 tcp/udp for printer spooler 9100 tcp/udp if you are using HP Jet Admin.
  14. Or at least until the code expires :)
  15. Got it installed last night and fired it up with out any problems what so ever. I really hope they get the netcode going and possibly the dedicated code.
  16. Great post dude; I am installing now, this one and SSSE are my favorite ones, and they are the only ones that keep me running Bloatware. If icculus pulls this off, and gets an installer for both, Windows will be gone forever :)

    Porting Games

I see your point, I have done the same with Quake 3 and Q3A TA once upon a time in a galaxy so far away. In the early days of of Linux gaming. Except the Quake 3 Demo and .pak files worked for me. I didn't not enjoy do it, but Linux games were not cheap back then either. Another good URL for Linux native games is http://www.linuxcompatible.org/ Look in the Games section, alot of other good stuff there regarding WineX :) I know DOlson just love WineX :)
  18. Some of you newbies looking for a Linux site, that gives a good list of what is compatible in Linux, games that will run using either WineX or that run in linux native mode, and also has useful Newgroups. See the following url; http://www.linuxcompatible.org/ there is also a Windows version of the same site.

    Porting Games

Soldier of Fortune does run in Linux Native. It was ported by Loki Games a few years back. You just have to buy it to get a valid CD Key.
  20. I too am in search of something that will work, is very flexible, and acts as a frontend for IPTables. Once good spot I found that has a list of firewalls available for Linux is www.tucows.com Go into the Linux software, security or internet, you will find a big list of firewalls that can be tested out.
  21. Icculuses Q2 installer worked great for me, and the game started up fine, but once I configured everything and went to run the game, it kept crashing on me or locking up the desktop manager. I think I will give the other file a shot.
  22. Yeah HP has alway been manufactuted with running in UNIX based environments using HPJet Admin. They make great stuff, I wall alittle upset at Best Buy for not honoring the trade...I was at 16 days, so 2 days over the window of opportunity.
  23. Yeah I got a Lexmark X125 model, and didn't have much luck with it either and was going to exchange it for an HP, but I was out of luck because I was outside the 14 day window for exchanges. Hopefully Lexmark will get their crap together.
  24. Yeah I have noticed that users have a lot of roaming privilege in Mandrake, more than usual. Unless you give the a false shell.
  25. Hey MottS; I want an animated Penguin like you have ! :)
