  1. Just how many times do they expect us to believe them? I think I will believe that boy who cried wolf long before trusting them with anything again. I think its time for an organized counter-attack. We can ask windoze users why they must buy a new system (complete with the $150 MS tax) when they find their previous system was garbage. I mean, if you buy two crappy Ford's in a row... do you replace it with another Ford?
  2. Time to settle this problem I have with a USB card reader. It has worked in previous versions of Mandrake with some editing of the fstab file, but will freeze on installing or bootup during the detect new hardware stage. 9.2 was supposed to have made it easier: I have a USB 2.0 card installed in system and everything plugged in there works (scanner, ext harddrive, 5 button mouse) without any problems. I have tried adding lines such as these to fstab: /dev/sdb /mnt/camera auto users,iocharset=iso8859-1,codepage=850,noauto 0 0 /dev/sdb1 /mnt/camera auto user,codepage=850,iocharset=iso8859-1,noauto,exec,kudzu,umask=0 0 0 This will still freeze on detect new hardware upon reboot. Trying to set this up while up and running in KDE: 1) Plug in the card reader. 2) Fire up MCC and click on Harddrake MCC will detect it as: /dev/sdb --> Floppy format: ‎eUSB Compact Flash and /dev/sdc --> Floppy format: ‎Microtec CameraMate (DPCM 3) Now click on DiskDrake and it freezes 4) Try diskdrake in terminal and again it freezes. All my drak packages have been updated: drakconf-9.2-4mdk drakxtools-9.2-19.4.92mdk harddrake-9.2-19.4.92mdk mandrake_theme-0.1.1-1mdk userdrake-0.92-24mdk drakxtools-newt-9.2-19.4.92mdk harddrake-ui-9.2-19.4.92mdk Am I doing something stupid or any ideas on what is going wrong?
  3. mmmm, like k3b? That's been know to cause some headaches with various things.
  4. That's been the only real problem I have with 9.2. I must unplug my USB cardreader in order to boot up Mandy. Otherwise it freezes... no other problems with other USB devices. I think something was changed in a hot script with this release that is not working here. Either that or the specific module does not want to load. I don't know. Think I will dive into this problem this weekend.
  5. I checked my permissions and my burner and cdrom are both root:root in /mnt, but slightly different than yours in /dev: my burner is user:cdwriter my cdrom is user:cdrom I can't do much now, but can check more (if you point me to what you may be looking at) after work (around midnight our time) I may be able to help more. My setup seems to get the job done. I am running 9.2, k3b, and have supermount enabled. I get the "scsi" error from k3b, but never enabled that, but have been burning quite a few cds successfully.
  6. How bout maybe a user / group thing: Like if cdrom group allows root access, but not to user ?
  7. you could try this: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=4459 or for us newbies, it would probably be better to wait for a rpm file to show up in the /stable/Contrib sites and install using rpm -i
  8. I think this may be referring to kernel-sources. Do you have this installed? If not, install and this error should go away.
  9. Interesting project (and observations) indeed. Might be time to set up another Linux box there. Keep us posted. What country is this in melon2003? As for those MS type sites, I believe most will work if you change the browser's ID to report is as a windows type. Maybe you could set up Konq for this purpose?
  10. Just making sure here: Is the service "proftpd" running? You can check to see it is started on bootup in MCC or in terminal as root: service proftpd status if not you can start with this: service proftpd start
  11. Looks like we got the enemy surrounded. Only problem is we are spread out way to thin around the perimeter. Billy (AKA Charlie during the Vietnam era) is still much too powerful to take down at this time.
  12. info for using md5sum in windows: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...t=0entry32858
  13. Ack ! I was tricked into coming here... now I won't reply. j/k A brief list of what you want to do would be: 1) download ISO files 2) check these files using command "md5sum" 3) burn these using the burn image option on fav burner. Do not burn as data type. This will also make CD 1 bootable 4) check your computer's BIOS options to be sure it will boot the CD. (usually hit the DEL key when system firsts posts to enter setup screen) To get more specific, you will need to tell us what you plan on using to download and burn these with.
  14. ... and thanks to mysti --- for the hell I put her through the past week and for putting up with me and getting things done.

Might wanna check out this thread: http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?sho...c=9769&hl=urpmi
  16. You using KDE's desktop and a little info on how you installed (was this an upgrade?) may help here greatly. ;)
  17. same here with my monitor. Had to use a custom monitor setting with that card and bypass the 100 or so S3 settings. also... How much RAM is installed. I am thinking you need 128 or better with 9.2 to run smoothly.

    What the?

Yeah, its pretty cool. I think its a php script on a server that produces a modified image file on the fly. You can just copy and paste the link, such as: http://www.danasoft.com/sig/RGC1.jpg for the one I used. OR http://www.danasoft.com/vipersig.jpg for this one (keeps changing to different pics):
  19. Don't know if this will help but here goes, If your running KDE, go into KDE's control center --> Sound --> Sound System --> and see it aRTs is checked and test your sound there. That one sound file could be bad (or don't have proper codec) and causing the crash ??? Oh, and WELCOME aboard.

    What the?

You mean this thing ? PS: TO add an image to your post just enclose the image's URL inside ] bb tags [IMG=http://www.mysite.com/myimage.jpg ]
  21. I think you will need to find a video editing app to piece things together and then encode to a mpeg2 format to play as a vcd, or svcd on your dvd player. If you would like to try something geared more towards a professional level - try cinelerra (available from plf). Summary: Non-Linear Video Editing Suite Description: If you want to make movies, you want the compositing and editing that the big boys use, you want the efficiency of an embedded UNIX operating system combined with the power of a general purpose PC, or you just want to defy the establishment, the time has come to download Cinelerra. There is also filmgimp (contribs), but I am not sure how far along development this is at this time. I have never had much luck editing stuff. If you need more info on all the formats and recording standards --- try http://www.dvdrhelp.com/dvd
  22. I didn't see any invision theme catagory, but I was up to the challenge at trying to create something that could be easily imported to any of these invision boards --- but especially ours. http://68.82.95.61/forum/ (this site is not up 24/7) A board had to be set up on my home machine to allow access to the admin functions and my server to upload the new art. The templates and css were adapted from the board's default pages, and most of the graphics have been borrowed from elsewhere and tweeked in the gimp. Still needs some work done yet, and some more tweeking, but you can get the general idea.
  23. Sounds like the problems I had with an older S3 ViRGE GX (385) card --- I never had any luck running with the newer XFree86 version 4 --- I always had to use the older 3.3.6 version. And I just checked --- there is a specially made Xfree 3.3.6 just for S3 chips on the install CD's.
  24. Bad use of words there... This hit Debian, and thus Debian is in the Spotlight this time. Good to see a patch has already been issued by Debian, Red Hat, and Mandy, before we even knew of the problem (well some of us ;) ) My thoughts of the FUD machine stem from the source of the article being from PCWorld, which I always thought was biased towards MS and the "Serious" they added to the headline. I would think if you gave anyone access to your machine and screws it up --- this would be sabatoge and not a security flaw. Even Linus Torvalds was quoted, saying this was only a "bug" I still feel much safer with my older kernel, than if I was running MS. :D
