  1. Humm, I dont know what to tell you. I read your problem, and on my system (Kubuntu 8.04) I did the following to install Steam: 1) Build the latest version of WINE. 2) From the terminal as a normal user: wine msiexec /i SteamInstall.msi' 3) Follow the normal install routine, same as windows. Did you use the latest build of wine? I am asking because of this line: err:ntlm:SECUR32_initNTLMSP ntlm_auth was not found or is outdated. Make sure that ntlm_auth >= 3.0.25 is in your path. This is probably your problem with not being able to login to Steam.
  2. Good ole' milk toast Red Hat. You have have many different versions of Red Hat, but in the end, it's still Red Hat
  3. The link send you to a download site. The offical link is http://www.etfgame.com/ . Sorry, I completely forgot about it
  4. Well, a TF mod has been released for Enemy Territoy, both linux and Windows. Enjoy http://www.clanrabid.org/etf/
  5. On my laptop I have gotten my wireless to work well except in one instance. At LSU (and my apartment) when ever there are multiple AP around, I cannot get a DHCP lease. I can see the AP's (iwlist scan) and it works fine on a single AP network (coffee shop and my parents house) but not multiple APs. Anyone have an idea for a fix (Running Ubuntu and a Prism 54 based card). auto eth1 iface eth1 inet dhcp wireless_mode auto wireless_essid off wireless_ap auto #wireless_keymode open|restriced #wireless_key1 WEPKEY #wireless_defaultkey 1
  6. Woot.. Prepare to die Halo fanboys...
  7. A long time ago in a place something like today I wrote a HowTo for Starcraft using WINE.
  8. Looks interesting, I will definatly have to take a look at it later
  9. Ok, I own a netgear prism54 (pcmcia) based wireless card, but mandrake cannot configure it. Can anyone give me some pointers?
  10. nvidia seems to be the best. My ATi Raedon 9000 gave me nothing but problems
  11. Well according to this page Xandros is giving away a version of it's OS. What do you think? Will you try it?
  12. Just a side note. MDK is the one distro that tends to hate games, at least for me
  13. The most complaints I hear about FC 2 is that there are no media players. It's an annoyance, but can be easily overcome by adding certain repositories into your yum.conf file and typeing "yum install totem" for example. The last time I used FC was FC2t1 (due to outside circumstances...)
  14. Right now I am playing World of Warcraft (for free) and the chances are I will not ever touch it again once it is released, but for now, it is mindless fun. The only time you cannot solo is when you go to the elite dungeons and instance dungeons ( that is unless you 5+ levels higher). It's incredibly boring untill you get a little group of people, and then it is fun.
  15. If you are running just console apps, why not hit CTRL + ALT + F1-6 and log in as your self and do it from there. Also have your tried running gnome-terminal and konsole from the run line?
  16. I'm going to add this. overclockix 3.4 was released the 30th. It's based off of knoppix but has some twist
  17. I would look into an.... APPLE laptop. OSX is a BSD like system, and everything works out of the box. If not, look into an IBM or HP laptop.
  18. Try Yellowdog, I've heard nothing but good things about them
  19. Mozilla Firefox is the best.... no if's ands or buts about it
  20. oggenc is great BTW -- just check out the man page and you will get better options that gRIps....
  21. Ok -- I've had a problem like this with mandrake. The problem is that mandrakes custom kernel sometimes does like certain hardware configurations. The longest I could get 10CE to be stable was 16 minutes.. just long enough to compile and install a custom kernel. Now, if you dont want to compile and install a custom kernel, I would recommend Overclockix or Knoppix as a good distro for you
  22. Oh god... not a Duke Nukem Forever joke... ahhhh
  23. THe Geforce 4 MX cards are based off of the Gforce 2 tech... avoid Gforce <anything> MX. If you want a good cheap card, try to find a 5200 Ultra (do not get the non-ultra version though)
