Beryl + exclude apps [solved]
ac_dispatcher replied to ac_dispatcher's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Yea I looked for that - couldnt find one. I ended up switching back to a single monitor. The reason for that was beryl native mode (not Xgl) would only work single monitor. After that the TV programs worked great. -
Beryl + exclude apps [solved]
ac_dispatcher replied to ac_dispatcher's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
No ideas? Oh well - Ill go without. -
Hi all I just loaded up PClinuxOS and Im enjoying it so far. Everything works nice. PClinux runs Beryl so I fired that up and it all works real well. The problem I have is when my TV tuner card came in the mail today - I installed it and loaded the drivers & such - got a garbled screen in kdetv and tvtime with good sound. On a hunch I disabled beryl and both programs worked with no isses. Turn on beryl and the screens go garbled again. Anyway to exclude kdetv or tvtime from the beryl 3d effects? I did a google search and the only thing I could come up with was: DISPLAY=:0 kdetv but that runs kdetv with no WM (sucky). Any ideas?

Here is my Desktop. Modified superkaramba stuff with Beryl. I have a dual monitor setup right now - thus the really wide pagers. I usually run Virtualbox on the right side. Pic is only of left screenie

Almost sounds like you are tying to run 1.5 with the 1.3 kernel modules loaded.

Question I have a zboard type keyboard. Im currently running Kubuntu and the volume keys already work with no setup. The question I have is when I hit the volume up or down arrow the volume will jump by about 10% each tap. Any insight on where to get info on reducing the amount of volume adjusted? Zboard gaming keyboard Kubuntu (gusty) Thanks I didnt have much luck with goolgle. Found a lot of how to set up the keys to work but no adjusting the amount of volume. Yea - I read bad things about automatix after I used it - oh well it all works good. As for bogus data - I just hate giving out my email on most forms.
-
Just an FYI: I dowloaded the vmware and installed it for free: http://www.vmware.com/download/server/ the above website will get you a serial number. Just fill in the data and poof there it is. btw: bogus data works too. I installed it via automatix then just entered the serial via the website. works great.

Zboard keys not repeating
ac_dispatcher replied to ac_dispatcher's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Im using the apt repo version. It doesnt matter anyway. I was reaching. You see the repeating keys doesnt work at anytime - in kwrite / console - nothing. It does work with the other Distro's Ive tried everwhere. So it cant be a wine issue. -
Zboard keys not repeating
ac_dispatcher replied to ac_dispatcher's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Would it matter if I uninstalled wine and tried to reinstall wine via source instead of apt? Try a different version? -
I installed and played WoW under vanilla wine. I have to tweak a few things but it works well - playable. In windows Ill get around 30fps and in wine around 15-23fps. Think I would get a boost if I went to Cedega? Can always do the subscribe get the copy - install then cancel again.

Zboard keys not repeating
ac_dispatcher replied to ac_dispatcher's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Ive tried a custom kernel and also tried a Mepis kernel - nogo. Also for sake of trying I copied my /etc/X11 from Mepis over to Kubuntu and booted - still nogo. Anyone have any other things I could try? dont care if I break it or not. -

Got moved - sorry for posting in wrong place. -
Hello all, Im not sure if any of you remember me - its been a very long time. Im currently returning back to Linux - namely Kubuntu. So far I love it. Linux has come a long way for sure. With Kubuntu everything "just works" (lol kinda). Now my issue. I play WoW via wine on my Merc Zboard. http://www.zboard.jp/ At first I used xmodmap: http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Zboard and it seemed all worked at first. For sure every key does indicate when I press it down. The red movement keys (w,a,s,d,x) will show up when I press. The only problem is only the "w" key repeats. So I can only move forward in WoW. Well I can turn but I need to press the turn key about 500x. Other mapped keys repeat but the a,s,d,x do not. What I have found is that this seems to be an ubuntu problem. I installed Mepis and PcLinuxOS and both worked fine - as did Gentoo (another user). I used to know my way around Linux but Im a bit rusty - so go easy please. Here is what I have tried: Installed Mepis and copied the entire (working) xorg config to the Kubuntu partition and booted = nogo I have tried to force repeating: xset r 128 = nogo I have tried numerous xorg.conf setting to no avail. I was wondering if any of you had any clues on how to solve this? I have also posted on the ubuntu forums to try and find help. Thanks [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]

Are thier gateway/routers that connect via usb? Everyone Ive seen was by NIC connection.

I had Cedega for some time. 5 bucks a month was no problem for the return. I just dont play games (or new ones) anymore on my puter. It was worth it for me. After the 3 month min you can stop the service - you still have alegal copy of cedega. I still have my copy of cedega 4.0.1 :D

Installing Gentoo, some questions
ac_dispatcher replied to Havin_it's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
btw - If you have an athon type processor dont use my CFLAGS unless you take out the "-msse2" from it. From what Ive read the Sempron 3100 is like a Athlon with -msse2 support. Its an oddball of a processor -
Installing Gentoo, some questions
ac_dispatcher replied to Havin_it's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Im always one to want the "bleeding edge" of each Distro. I remember When I first started out I was never satisfied with plain Mandy - I wanted cooker. Anywho for bleeding edge an ~x86 Gentoo is pretty darn stable. I ran it for about 1.5 years last time. It broke because I broke it (as is most of the time). But then again if my systme breaks at any time - oh well Ill have fun and learn while trying to fix it. When in doubt 0 I just boot to one of the other 2 Distros Ive got on my computer: Now: Gentoo ~x86 Mepis - no advanced packages Linux Underground - Bleeding edge Debian -
Installing Gentoo, some questions

Ref: #1 Id say stick with -O2. You dont get too much more from what Ive read on going to -O3 except some packages not compiling and general larger packages. Ref#2 I did a stage2 me thinks straight to KDE3.4. I didnt use the package cd I downloaded everything with emerge -u world. I also think on my last install I added the emerge -u world somewhere in the install even though it did not call for it. It will depend on your make.conf. Do you plan on running unstable? (~x86). Mine is not too advanced but here is my make.conf. # Copyright 2000-2002 Daniel Robbins, Gentoo Technologies, Inc. # Contains local system settings for Portage system # Please review 'man make.conf' for more information. CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -msse2 -fomit-frame-pointer -funroll-loops -ftracer -w" CXXFLAGS="${CFLAGS}" USE="ooo acpi alsa bindlist cdr dga dvd gstreamer jpeg java joystick live mmx mozilla network odbc pnp ppds pic samba snmp sse sse2 tiff usb" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage /usr/local/bmg-main" AUTOCLEAN="yes" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc/make.conf" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" PKGDIR="${PORTDIR}/packages" PORTAGE_NICENESS="10" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORT_LOGDIR="/var/log/portage" FEATURES ="distlocks ccache autoaddcvs candy sandbox" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia" ALSA_CARDS="snd-intel8x0" CCACHE_SIZE="2G" ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" My use flags may be bloated - I never had gotton around to trimming them down. Youll notice I run ~x86 -
If it was KDE or Gnome - then KDE for me. But Ive always been partial to XFCE

real PC newbie friendly distro wanted
ac_dispatcher replied to ChrisM's topic in Other Linux and Unix Distributions
Well the only Ubuntu Ive used was Kubuntu. What I was referring to was a MCC / YAST like program. If your going to convert a true Window$ user would it not be logical to show them KDE first? It is more "Windowish" then the rest.
