    ALSA Upgrade

If you are running KDE: start the program Kmix (if it starts only in the system tray, then right click -> Show mixer window), then go to the tab 'Switches' then make sure Headphone Jack Sense and Line Jack Sense are checked (the "lights" beside them should shine yellow). I'm sure other mixing software got something similar.

An example from one of my machines: # The loopback network interface auto lo iface lo inet loopback # The primary network interface allow-hotplug eth0 auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.7 gateway 192.168.2.1 netmask 255.255.255.0 How did you configure it otherwise? Edit: for dhcp I think it is: iface eth0 inet dhcp but I'm not sure

I think this depends on which security level you choose. Edit: In level 5 you have to be in the wheel group: http://club.mandriva.com/xwiki/bin/view/KB/SecureSmsec

    Hi, I have a question

You can also dual boot, which many linux users do (me too). If you install linux you can choose to keep your windows installation and install linux on another partition. The installer will then automatically set up your system for dual-boot.
  17. A quick google: Windows md5sum generator: http://www.md5summer.org/
  18. Gnome version: 1:2.14.3.6 http://packages.debian.org/testing/gnome/gnome
  19. Follow the instructions on https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=40552 about how to set up your online rpm-repositories.
  20. http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=29839 This happened for me too, it seems to be fixed in testing.
  21. Run 'alsaconf' as root and follow the instructions (you may have to install that package).
