  1. Yeah read through the FAQ but I think its a bit to advanced for me, I mean I am new to Linux, and newer still to FreeRADIUS so I was looking for kind of REAAALLLLYYY BASIC explanation of how to configure and run it, after that I can probably handle it on my own. But first I need the bare basics.
  2. Hey guys, anybody here have any experience with FreeRADIUS, I need to set it up as a Wireless network authorization, an help would be appreciated. I already have it installed, but now what??? Thanks Ed.
  3. Cool, thanks I'll try that and report back. Right now what I'm doing is creating a Virtual Mandriva Free server, when done I'll copy the vmware file over to the server and try to run it with VM Player. But I'll try your tip anyways to see what the error is. Thanks Ed.
  4. Hi guys, I got a little problem, I am trying to run the LIVE CD on a test Dell Poweredge 2650 Server to see if I will be able to install it as a main OS on this server. It has 2 XEON CPUs, 4 Gb ram and 2 RAID arrays a RAID 1 for OS and a RAID 5 for data storage. When I try to boot from the CD it will show the orange splash screen but the progress bar at the bottom left won't move at all. Any ideas? Thanks in advance Ed.
  5. I installed both, but KDE is working fine, GNOME just jas all the flashy animated windows, dont really need them. It is cool to know that I can switch to the other at any time. Thaks again guys
  6. OK, so I formatted my drive and reinstalled the complete FREE version and now I'm running KDE, and now everything is working. Although I have to say, GNOME is a better looking more interactive desktop, KDE is just looks and feels like a basic upfront GUI. (read windows) But everthing is working, and that is nice. thanks for your help guys, but don't go to far I will need much more hehe Thanks again Ed
  7. I was using GNOME. what do you recomend? GNOME or KDE??
  8. Thanks Neddie and Mhn, I did the Easy-urpmi and I got all the repository updates and everything, but I still get the same error 'Unsatisfied libmagik######' or something oof the sort on various programs, I looked it up and it seems to be a 2007.1 release problem. I'm going to format and re-install with the FREE DVD (has all the RPMs included) I'll let you know what happened. Just for clarity I'm trying to install Kismet and Stellarium, these are both basically game me the same kind of error, but a few other did the same thing.
  9. OK, I'll try that right now.. I get back to you in a few mins.. OK, that didnt work, better said, I don't think I'm doing it right.. I go to Aplications -> System then in Install, Remove or Update Software There the Software manager starts, I try to add the distro DVD as a new source but get an error. My biggest problem (why I wanted to reinstall) is that if I try to install almost anything it gives me a 'Some requested packages canot be installed name_of_software_ver# (due to unsatisfed file_name.so.# This last file name is normally a lib###.so.# file which I would belive is a library file. any ideas?? I'm really looking into formating the drive and starting over if I cant resolve this today. Thanks again ed.
  10. Yes I mean installed on my hard drive, sorry I'm still in a Microsh*t state of mind. I have been having problems compiling a lot (most) programs, or installing them through RPMs, thats why I wanted to update to the FREE version (dvd) from the ONE (CD) to get all the missing apps and functionality. I'm really new to Mandriva, and the last time I actually used UNIX was in college and Xwindows was the hottest NEW item for UNIX. (yeah I'm old) How do I get all the apps and updates from the FREE DVD into my instalation??? Or easier still I really don't have any info I care to save on my Mandriva drive, how could I erase it and start from scratch with the Free Version. Thanks Ed.
  11. I have Mandriva 2007 spring ONE installed, I want to replace it with FREE version, what steps should I take?? or should I just install it over the other one??
  12. Hi I'm new to Mandriva, I have been checking it out and really liked what I see, I have been testing it in my laptop (dell Latitude d620) with no problems (just one will get to it later). My major problem is whe I tried to boot the Live option in my home PC (intel mainboard PIII 2.0ghz 1 gb ram) everthing installs and loads up I get all the usual questions (language, location etc..) for the install and when it comes to boot GNOME it stops and returns me to the orange Mandriva login screen. I can try guest or root users and it just starts to load and then returns to the screen. (root loads the red screen). This is using LIVE the boot from CD option, not a hard drive install. anybody seen this happen before?? I started downloading the FREE version to see if its some driver missing in the LIVE version, since my motherboard is about 4 years old. Any help would be appreciated. The other issue I have is when I try to compile programs on my laptop that IS running an installed copy of ONE when I run ./configure I get an error that says error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH, I checked the Path an it includes all the folders (bin; usr/bin etc..) where the gcc compiler is installed, what I did see is that ONE installs gcc-cpp compliler that has the cpp executable and the ./configure looks for gcc, cc and cl.exe only. I tried downloading another version of the gcc but I would no install. any Ideas??? Thanks Ed.
