rldev
Is there a repo I can setup for Chromium? I have searched and have not seen much in terms of Mandriva. Thanks.
daniewicz
Has there been a linux release yet? Is it still in beta?
ianw1974
I can't say that I've seen a Linux release yet, and I searched a short while ago.
yossarian
Up until now Google has only released beta version of Chromium for Linux, and for the meanwhile it is only supported by Debian and Ubuntu. Support for other distros is planned. http://dev.chromium.org/getting-involved/dev-channel#TOC-Linux
scarecrow
The official Google client, is still very beta. However, the opensource chromium browser is still beta, but very usable, and stable. And very fast, as well. I'm toying with the opensource chromium under ArchLinux with very few issues, currently. rldev
I just wished I could find a rpm repo for Chromium. I have a older rpm I found and it does work very well, but I can't find the newer releases.
Greg2
I just wished I could find a rpm repo for Chromium. If you must have the latest google-chrome, you need to add the repo. [root@halfway greg]# urpmi.addmedia -v google http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386 getting exclusive lock on urpmi adding medium "google" not using metalink since requested downloader does not handle it retrieved http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386 media_info/MD5SUM comparing /var/cache/urpmi/partial/MD5SUM and /var/lib/urpmi/google/MD5SUM retrieving source synthesis of "google"... http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386/media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz retrieved http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/i386 media_info/synthesis.hdlist.cz computing md5sum of retrieved source synthesis wrote config file [/etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg] unlocking urpmi database [root@halfway greg]# exit exit [greg@halfway ~]$ urpmq --fuzzy google-chrome google-chrome-unstable here's the package key: https://dl-ssl.google.com/linux/linux_signing_key.pub Key ID: Google, Inc. And just a FYI- I don't use it, I'm simply showing you how to get it. :)
rldev
Thanks Greg. How about a 64bit repo?
tux99
I can't think why anyone would want to use a google spyware browser instead of Firefox, Opera or even better Seamonkey... What does Chromium offer that these other browsers don't have?
Reiver_Fluffi
Tux, do you have anything credible, other than conjecture, to back up your opinion that the browser is spyware? For me Chrome/Chromium have been far more stable and far more responsive than Firefox or Oper, be it on Windows or Linux. The builds for Linux are considered unstable yet they run rings around Firefox and Opera, so much so that the Chromium Daily Builds from the Ubuntu PPA is my default browser! tux99
Tux, do you have anything credible, other than conjecture, to back up your opinion that the browser is spyware? Just look at the source code... For me Chrome/Chromium have been far more stable and far more responsive than Firefox or Oper, be it on Windows or Linux. I cannot remember the last time my Seamonkey crashed... :P Edited November 19, 2009 by tux99
Greg2
How about a 64bit repo? Here's the 64-bit repo urpmi.addmedia -v google64 http://dl.google.com/linux/rpm/stable/x86_64 however it doesn't contain a google-chrome rpm. AFAIK, there's not a 'working' 64-bit available from google code yet. You may find one somewhere that someone has independently compiled and packaged, I'm not sure. rldev
Yeah. That seems to be the issue. I will have to wait. I will say Chrome/Chromium does indeed runs circles around Firefox and Opera on my 64bit system. Frankly it is not even close in terms of speed and stability(at least in Firefox's case). SilverSurfer60
Opera does not appear to be available for 2010.0, and Seamonkey is fine if you like Netscape Navigator :D
Greg2
@ rldev- I've located an independently compiled and packaged 64-bit rpm for you. ffi is one of our members and aka appgorilla over at fourm.mandriva. He has made a working google-chrome-4.0.223.5r29485-0aap2010.0.x86_64.rpm and it's available here: 2shared.com/file/google-chrome He has shared this work with tarakbumba, the admin at the Mandriva Turkiye Forums. The Mandriva Turkiye Repository is here: http://depo.mandrivaturkiye.com/index_en.htm the file is here: http://depo.mandrivaturkiye.com/2010.0/x86_64/free/index.html Thank you ffi for all your work on this, and thank you tarakbumba for hosting it. :) The complete thread about this is here: http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=118621
