kilimanjaro
Is it possible to build your own laptop yet? I would love to have one, but I can't afford one, but if I could buy the parts over time I think I could manage it.
fuzzylizard
Theoretically, perhaps. However, the parts are so speciallized that it probably is not practical to do. Either that, or the cost of acquiring the parts would be more than the cost of buying a new laptop.
VeeDubb
instead of buying parts a few at a time, may I sugest a savings account?
kilimanjaro
This funny thing happens, when I have money I spend it. How about buying an older laptop and upgrading it?
impuLse
upgrading it will cost just as much as buying a new one too! :woops:
mtweidmann
The chances are that enything except a minor upgrade wouldn't work anyway. You end up having the wring sockets or chipsets or something.
ezroller
theres always credit, or a loan. that way you only pay a little at a time.
ShadowFoxLSU
You can buy suitcase-type PC cases.... or your could build a custom case to hold an LSD on the side.
VeeDubb
I know what you mean about spending it. If I had one red cent to my name I'm sure I'd spend it.
DragonMage
Hmm.. the laptop components are getting more modular, but I don't think there is a way to build it yourself. Toshiba components are for toshiba laptops and stuffs.
kilimanjaro
I have seen mother boards for laptops, and ram for laptops. Can you buy those and upgrade a laptop?
ezroller
generally no, I think that is more for repair type situations. remember there is no standard laptop case, i.e. where there is ATX for pc's, there is no standard for laptops. With laptops, you have to find something that you can grow into. thats what I did.

Gowator
Don't start him I get everytime he mentios that little beauty <G> I once made a 'brick' PC. The power supply/CD/stuff unplugged and then you just had the mobo and disk. The idea was something small light to plug in at the other end. Plus I had no case so it was running in a cardboard box. One of those tiny MOBO's would do the trick and a 2.5" hard drive and you'd have a pretty portable system. Even better if you could just use a USB dongle etc. for the storage!!! kilimanjaro
I want something that I can use on a bus or in a car. I have music, games homework, all kinds of stuff on my pc and I want to be able to take it with me.
