  1. We switched from Comcast to SBC DSL using a Linksys DSL/Cable router. Seamless access by Mac OS9.1, Win98, Win XP and Mandrake 9.1. The router is the connection point that handles all the access as noted by others...if it doesn't work check your spelling...my wife typed "scb..." instead of "sbc..." in the router settings...that was the only snag...
  2. Unlike a "coffee bar" or "internet cafe"...you will be dealing with those who intake an intoxicating beverage. Consider the patron who gets a little out of hand, cut off...then gets mad and starts on the equipment..."I'll show you..." Alcohol brings out plenty of ugly.... terminals won't be cheap, but they will be much better than having to rebuild a box... Then there will be the idiot who thinks pouring a beer into the floppy slot will be funny... I like the idea, but alcohol, computers and idiots...I have a bad feeling about this. Those who remember the late Walter Payton...greatest running back in football (until recently). He opened his own dance/bar/diner (50's theme) called "Studebaker's" in Schaumburg, IL to get in you had to be over 25 (I forget the age, but 21 was not old enough) and there was a dress code...why...Walter wanted a higher class client...I was in the palce some 20+ years ago...pure class... Well food for thought...(if I am seen as a spoil sport so be it, I am old enough to have seen enough foolishness...back in my days a computer took up a whole room, we didn't have electronic games, we talked to computers with punch cards , our records were vinyl...)
  3. I have to agree about Lexmark. I just dumped my Lexmark Z51 for an Epson C82. Speed was not an issue for me as I really enjoyed the Lexmark in the begining. It was the stupid, fricking expensive ink cartridges that were the problem. The jets plug up and they are a bitch to get restarted. I even complained to Lexmark. Sent them the cartridges for inspection "Oh yeah, we know about the problem in this particular batch, solid particles in the ink batch plug the ink jets" Well duh, recall all the parts. Needless to say I continued to have problems and at $40/cartridge...forget it. I have an Epson Stylus Color 800 at home and after months of non-use, never fails to print. Sold me. Now for under $100 you are not going to find speed demon printers. For a little more you are going to find nice prnters. I bought my wife a Canon i550 ($149.00 w/$30.00 rebate) and I just bought the Epson C82 for work. (both are in the same retail price range) Both printers have individual cartridges for each color. ~$10.00-$11.00 each. If you plan to print pictures, the Epson has the advantage with longer lasting ink colors...otherwise I see them as both to be good printers. (IMHO)
  4. And once this mode of operating MS products get's too popular or looks like it might...money bags Bill will buy Codeweavers, and the rest will be history...
  5. The old you can have it fast or you can have it right. A sign at a manufacturing plant I visited (actually have been working in collaboration since 1997) "Why is it we never have time to do it right the first time, but we always have time to do it again?"
  6. What do you have against Cats?
  7. About £23.99 which is about average for good quality computer books. And in the US, the shipping is about $12 (it was 11 something, more than 25% of the book cost). Stopped me cold from ordering. I'll wait until it hits the book shelves and pay the local government/state tax ~8%. As for the DVD option (79USD) it contains the complete 9.0 Power Pack
  8. Huummm that is rather odd I just did some checking with an HTML editor <font size="10"> Text </font> Works just fine. Are you just using a text editor or are you using one of the HTML editors avaialble for Linux? Quanta comes with MDK 8.2 (power pack) There is Amaya http://www.w3.org/Amaya/ I do most of my web stuff with WYSIWYG in Windblows (Net Objects Fusion), but I have used Page Mill, and Go Live too...as well as Coffee Cup People at Coffee cup used to offer a Linux version, I see that they have dumped that...too bad as it was also free and worked well.
  9. Lindows Software agreement reads like a M$ clone. Steer clear. http://www.lockergnome.com/issues/penguins...l/20021204.html http://www.lockergnome.com/issues/penguins...l/20021205.html http://www.lockergnome.com/issues/penguins...l/20021206.html
  10. Old World Macs are any before the iMac and Colored desktops...i.e. if it's beige, it's old world. The new World macs are supposed to be just fine using Yaboot (MDK install looks for it and knows if you have an old or new mac). I have MDK 8.2 installed on the 17 gig (sda) with OS 9.0 on the 2gig (sdb). One uses BootX to boot a special kernel to install...I figured that part out. I have installed the MDK 3 times (for practice). Once installed, one needs to reconfigure BootX to access the MDK install I have followed 2 sets of instructions (BootX readme and Mandrake). Neither let me start my installed MDK system. (kernel panic or can't mount fs) As for YDL, again the problem is BootX. (and even less instructions) Oh and I take back that comment about CF being the only one to know what a Mac is...appears there are 3 of you that know
  11. Here you will find my install experience on an old world mac...seems no one here except for cannonfodder knows what a Mac is... http://www.mandrakeclub.com/modules.php?op...ic=3043&forum=8 I'd love to have a new world mac to use Yaboot...but I don't have $4000 to upgrade my Mac harware to use MDK. And if I keep a dual boot system...I have to upgrade my Mac software as well...like money grows on trees... Pissed off, yeah especially when DENO doesn't want to drop Mac support but MDK only provides at best vague install instructions for the "old world people" and a really messed up install at that (see the PPC thread about being counted...one of the programers as some words with Deno) ...shoot are we Mac people considered lepers? Mods...put this where it belongs as I am Trolling MAC support for MDK. I have 2 dual boot WIN98/MDK 8.2 and a dedicated MDK 8.2 (PC based) boxes. That run fine...so why the Mac issue, cause I love my Macs too and I thought running MDK on at least 1 gives me a broader horizon...

    How start Fluxbox?

 he is a very good guy, even he never got banned from my part when I was a mod in the old board (except one or two PMs). He is a bit impulsive, but that's all :) bvc, I knew you'll appreciate my post :D To visit with him in person and to sup with him is to know him...I can attest that he is much more interesting in person than over the electronic communication devices...
  13. Ms. Moderator Mystified Wouldn't this be a better link as one could choose BSD, RPM or DEB pakages? http://www.f-prot.com/download/getfplinfree.html You do a great job as a Moderator and I like reading your comments. Best Regards A Mystified Fan Club Member

    Mig Alley port

P-51 has more class and performance (less romance though)
  15. I knew I should have gone into computers and not chemistry...but back then we used punch cards (chads and all)...
  16. Now if you can find this guys surface coordinates (ie where his machine is physically)...I have some friends at the Naval SURFACE WAREFARE SCHOOL ...they could use some target practice...not quite as good as hacking, but it would fix the problem.
