    9.1 install

As with anything I can't guarntee this but I've never heard of a working monitor not working in linux if it runs in windose. It more than likely just the wrong driver for the vidio card. The Vesa driver is a very old genaric driver that about 95% or better of all vidio cards use to get a very basic color screen. After you find something that works you can play with it more to get better resolution and screen use.
  2. I use a simple router to hook up my 6 computers. They all share the same IP internet connection and all can network together. This is great for games like Quake. And since its a cable connection they all have nice internet access times. But I dought this is the answer your looking for.
  3. How about making mine JOAT ? Thanks
  4. I've never really had a problem with corrupted files. But I have had corrupted files and a totaled mbr before from bat shutdowns. I've never lost any real data though. Just reinstalled Mandrake and it found the old partitons so I used them. Since I have just about everything separated onto different partition I still had all my old data and all my old system settings. I always use separate usr, var, and home partitions on top of the normall / and swap. Though now that I said all this I'm sure my system will cr*p out tomorrow loosing everything.
  5. You need the sources to get your modem working so yes you need the sources. They were included in the last release(9.1) on the third disk. They will probably do the same for 9.2

    Trouble with XFree86

Reload linux. Unless you have to much data to save.

Have you tried running xf86config from the command line? If you can try using the basic VESA driver and a genaric monitor that matches her specs. That shoould get you closer to something usable.

    Trouble with XFree86

The CTRL+ALT+F1 button combo will take you to a command line screen that should show you the list of errors. Try it again and post back the errors.
  9. Both patience and xpat2 have freecell versions in them.
  10. I've never used a zip drive before. As you can tell. try looking inside the /mnt/ for a zip entry. I use /mnt/floppy to get into my floppy drive maybe the zip drive is listed there also.
  11. For those who don't know the Land Warrior Sytem is the Army's new infantry solders personal body armor. It has or will have an integrated set of medical sensors, tactical radio, GPS, night vision, infrared camera, off shoulder sighting system and heads up display in the helmet. The big problem was OS stability battery life/rechanging and battlefield integration with a command and controle source. It looks like all thats left now are the hardware problems.
  12. If nothing is on the disk it might not mount and open.
  13. More than likely it will work. try it out and tell us what happens.
  14. From the command line as root.( To switch to root just type su- then thepassword when asked) run the command xf86config This will let you rechoose the vidio driver. Or you can vi into your xf86config-4 file and manually switch the driver.
  15. I asked then to have it out for christmas since its all my son wants. He's 7 and likes the games. Really it is. Well that and a motor cycle. But I didn't think they would send him a yamaha.
  16. Either remove the disk if you have one in or put a formated floppy in if you don't have one in. After you get in you can turn off the search for new hardware thing. Or just turn off supermount it could be giving you trouble.
  17. http://zdnet.com.com/2100-1104_2-5092702.h...g=zdfd.newsfeed A small investment to keep my dillion bucks in M$ stock safe. http://zdnet.com.com/html/z/tu/1003/unisys.html Looks like another"I'll scratch your back if you scratch mine." Now this looks a little odd. To me it looks like some of the bigwigs are starting to think M$ shares might need a little shoring up. I don't know about you but if I had a billion invested in M$ stock I would probably do something like this also.

    9.2 ISOs

Wow nice speed. Under three hours for the whole thing. About 280 kb/s. One of my faster downloads of a Distro. Anyone try the harddrive image install yet? Or the network install. Just don't feel like burning them.
  19. I was refering to the spin coupled orbital. Didn't see the second page.
  20. Yea thats a simple one. Couldn't you see that illogic-al?
  21. Yes it will import them but as you know with fonts not all of them are 100% compatable with everything. Though the anti-alaizing ones are real nice.
  22. I just played around a bit and found that by adjusting the colors in a simple picture like the tomato you can remove all the blue then clean up the last few pixels by free hand then you can select the background then invert the selection then cut and paste to a new image. Got everything done in about 1 minute and only selected the tomato in the end. Almost no free hand moving the mouse around stuff.
  23. I understood what you did to the tomato pic. I was just hoping you knew a way to remove everything but the red tomato real quick and simple like other than pixel by pixel. Thanks though.
