  3. Hello, Once you have downloaded the rpm it's very easy to install all you have to do is this: rpm -ivh <nameoffluxbox.rpm> Of course with out the <>, to make sure that you are writing the right file name you can cd into the directory where you have saved the rpm and all you have to do is type in the first letter of the rpm and hit TAB and it will auto-complete it for you. Post back if you have any further problems, -Luis
  4. Yeah great job, altho you had to lead me thrue in in #musb... Thanks, -Luis
  5. I think I use to have the same problem when I first installed Mandrake, I was not able to compile things because I got an error message. Look's like the same one you have, altho I have re-installed Linux a few times, but not because of the compiler thing, altho I have to say that's not the best thing to do, people don't really like the Idea of having to re-install Linux. I'm sure theres and answer to this, I'm very knew to Linux and really don't have as much experience as some of these guys I'm sure some one will give you an answer and get this fixed, as for the gdesklets install them via urpmi it's the easiest way, I think that you might just be making things more complicated on your self by doing those extra steps. Stick around, you'll learn...... -Luis
  6. Hello?! Ok, so you want to install your kernel sources. First we are going to do this via Easy urpmi so if you don't have your sources installed please click here to install them, follow the directions on the link I have provided. Ok first we need to make sure that we install the correct kernel-source. So open up console and type in the following: rpm -qa | grep kernel That should output something like this, kernel-2.6.3.7mdk-1-1mdk kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk You want the one labeled 'kernel-source-2.6...' mine might be different than from yours, the might be the same but be very carefull that you are getting the right name. Next open up console su to root and type in the following: urpmi kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk Again replace the ' kernel-source-2.6.3-7mdk ' with YOUR kernel source, once you type that in just hit Enter, and it should start to download everything it needs or so. Hope this helps, -Luis
  7. Hi?! I have to say that the probably best one would be the FX5700. Not only is the model higher but it sounds more new, I have just looked it up and this is the card that they use at my local LAN Party. So I have actually tested out and it performs like a charm. I think you should defenetly go with the FX5700 sys spec on your computer are good they should all run together very good. -Luis
  8. Hi?! Why don't you try to install your gdesklets via urpmi? You can easily set up your urpmi sources by clicking here. Once you have your sources installed all you have to do is open up a console su to root and type this in: urpmi gdesklets This sometimes give's you a list, all you have to do is choose what you want to download ( by this I mean you choose if you want the weather gdesklet, sys info, etc.....) Lets say for exaple you install the sys info one. All you have to do is open up console, and type this in: gdesklets<hit TAB> when you hit TAB something like this should come up similar to this $ gdesklets gdesklets gdesklets-display-thumbnailer gdesklets-add-sysinfo-display Now you just have to run the gdesklets-add-sysinfo-display just type that into console and hit enter and it should run the sys info, hope this helps, -Luis P.S I do have to warn you that gdesklets hog a lot of resources, I have read some where on the board that gdesklets are coming out with new ones that are less damanding of the resources.
  9. If you are using KDE. You can go to K> System> Configuration > KDE > Components > Session manager. Once there, where it says " On Login " check the box next to where it says ' Restore manually saved session ' Then hit 'Apply' and the ' OK ' One you have done that you can open up all your programs that you want running upon start , and then go to K and then click on Save Session, and next time that you log in, those programs should start right away. Hope this help, -Luis
  10. That's not good if you got the illegal version lol. Just pay the 30 dollars is probably well worth it. -Luis
  11. What about the rest of us we tried to help too budd--yyy. And we don't get any thanks? :( -Luis
  12. It's good to hear that you have go your unlce over to Linux. If you want something that he can read while hes AWAY from his computer you can maybe try printing the stuff that the other guys gave you? Also if that doesn't sound like something you want to do you can maybe order some kind of book, and stop at a bookstore and try and get a book about KDE. Like Artic said you can stop over at http://www.kde-look.org and change they way that KDE looks so that it looks like windows, and then once your uncle starts to get more used to it he can start to change things until he's totally using kde with original kde looks. Also once you start to have problems with installing stuff or something goes wrong you can stop at the Friendly FAQs they have really valuable infomation there. Hope this helps, -Luis
  13. Nice! I hoped there was one of these when I was installing mandrake, My 3rd CD was corrupted, good job! -Luis
  14. Correct me if I wrong,..............One of them I think is free which is I think CVS. The official one that you have to buy or subscribe to is the one from transgaming. For all I know is that CVS is missing things?! Some one told me that it was more like a trial version, and If you subscribe I think you get everything, I hear that you can subscribe to transgaming.com for $30 dollars for about 6 months. -Luis
  15. Welcome!? For urpmi I have found that using the mirror USA (ftp://mirrors.secsup.org'>ftp://mirrors.secsup.org'>ftp://mirrors.secsup.org'>ftp://mirrors.secsup.org) is the fastest that I have tried to date. I found this when I was installing easy urpmi to one of my friends and It only took about 10 minutes to download everything when I installed mine it took about 2 hours.....As for the contents I believe that they all have the same things, This is what I chose for my mirrors by the way. Contrib-USA (ftp://mirrors.secsup.org) Main-USA (ftp://mirrors.secsup.org) Update-USA (ftp://mirrors.secsup.org) plf-Slovakia (ftp://spirit.bentel.sk) Everything that I install via urpmi downloads very fast, as for your second Questions I really don't know much about it. Hope this helps, -Luis
  16. Linux_learner what about the one that you gave me about command line? http://www.linuxdevcenter.com/linux/cmd/ This was a great website and if you didn't tell people about it I'm sure they are going to like it too! -Luis link added - tyme
  17. Wow, no wonder why the local LAN Party station had to update all their stuff, they usally hold really big multiplayer games, like Half-life, Warcraft III etc.....and their computer play every game, now explains the big sudden change. -Luis

I don't really know exactly how to change resolution, on mandrake but I know how to change the font size in Mozilla and make it permanent, I use to have the same problem. If you are using Mozilla-firefox you can click on Tools > Options and under General look for Fonts & Colors then where it says Display Resolution pick 72 dpi and then on Minumum font size, choose some where around 13 or what ever you want, according to how big you want everything to show up. Also you should try to get mozilla-firefox from what I hear it's much better. It's easy to install thrue urpmi, you can click here to set them up just incase you haven't done so, and all you have to do is su to root and type the following, urpmi mozilla-firefox Hope this helps, -Luis
  20. Theres some people that say that installing it in Mandrake is hard, some say it's easy. You can check this post out http://www.mandrakeusers.org/index.php?showtopic=5494 This will guide you on how to install a Wireless Card. Hope this helps, -Luis
