  1. Yes exaclty, I didn't mean that KPPP was "so darn easy to do" I meant that's it really easy to hit the wrong key and not catch it etc..
  2. Ya, that could definatly be a problem. Check your firewall logs, I"m trying to access your site now. Perhaps there'll be something in them that will give us a clue as to why its not accessable. It says loading and transfering data but it hangs on that. I think I see at least part of the problem. mandrake101.no-ip.org shows an IP of 63.210.163.XXX when I ping it yet when I try to access the page it gives me a 64.10.164.XXX address.
  3. They're all linux usable. TCP/IP is TCP/IP well you get the idea. If you coudln't get on using KPPP chances are it was a setting that was either missed ot not put in correctly. I say this only because it's sooooo darn easy to do. As for calling then ISP for help, unless you need some frustration I strongly suggest not doing that. The first words out of thier mouths will be something like:" We don't support Linux, please go into your Control Panel..." :-) Are you sure that the info you put into KPPP was correct? User name, pass, number etc? Did you try one of the other dialers?
  4. My first thought is DNS settings but why are you so concerned about this? You can access by localhost, the lan IP and the no-ip name. Why is it so important to access by the IP given to you by your ISP?
  5. Install a burning program would be a good place to start. :-) Seriously, though I use either eroaster or K3b. Both are on the cd's or can be installed by using urpmi.
  6. As long as that's all you're holding. :-) And the last is really more then I needed to know. lol I figure it must be the real beer you're having.
  7. Likewise connection refused. Did you open and forward the appropriate port back?

    .WMA Files

Or you can just urpmi mplayer if you're sources are set up.
  9. Don't call them. That will only tip them off that you're breaking your TOS. Have you tried putting the server on a different port instead?
  10. I can have you up and running in 10 minutes. step 1 Go get yourself a copy of IPCop 2. Burn the iso to disk then power down the machine with the cdrom in it. 3. Install the cdrom temporarilyin the machine thats going to be the firewall and install IPCop and when the install is down put the cdrom back in its proper machine. And baddaboom baddbing one NAT capable firewall with a lan and a dmz set up if thats how many nics you had installed. Its also a proxy server, dhcp server with a nice little web based front end or you can ssh in do tweak it through the cmd line if you so choose.
  11. LOL, you actually called the helpdesk at an ISP for help when you run Linux? tsk, tsk, tsk Never do that unless you feel the urge to confuse the person on the phone or need a headache. Very few offically support anything other then windows. And if the add says works with any OS then mean any windows OS.
  12. I don't know the ISP but you don't necesarily have to set DNS or IP numbers for that matter, I set my 10. ip from my ISP on my firewall, my buddy on the same ISP doesn't set anything as it's all done by DHCP/PPOE, and my dad in Alberta just sets his username/password and he gets it through DHCP also. They all just used the Networking component in the MCC to set it up to get the IP through DHCP.
  13. For X clients I don't think X-Chat can be beat. For term clients I like Irssi, Scrollz and then BitchX.
  14. Not sure why any ISP wouldn't work. TCP/IP is TCP/IP is TCP/IP. The only time I could see it now working with anything but Windows is if you have to install some silly software of thiers to get connected. But even those ISPs the default ppoe clients in linux and windows seem to work.
  15. Thank you both Steve and aru. That was exactly what I was looking for. Can't imagine why I couldn't find that last night. DOn't suppose it was the beer by any chance? Nahhhhh, internet must have been down, ya that's why. Thanks again
  16. I know this has been covered before but darned if I can find it. How do I set up my term to permently have a colorized prompt with different colours for root? I had it in 8.x and I swear I found the information here but I just can't find how again. Thanks
  17. Humm, thought I mentioned something like this can't hurt your linux box earlier. My logs are full of folks trying to run .exes etc to infect an IIS box. In a sick way its fun to watch them trying.
  18. I believe this works but I've never tried it so do so are your own risk. You reboot the box with the 1st in and choose to do a repair installation. I think that rewrites the mbr so you can get into linux. The problem is I don't remember what it will do to your ability to boot into windows.

    proftpd.conf

Have you considered using webmin to do this? I set up my ftp server using webmin in about 5 minutes. I had a small problem with /bin/false but I got the worked out also.
  20. Excellent, I was thinking about buying a flat of beer and compiling my own, but if this comes out soon enoug I think I"ll pass and do it the easy way.
  21. Gee you think? lol Just someone bored and trying to stir things up.
  22. Yes, there is no need to run a dual boot machine if you don't want or need too. Turn on the new computer, set the bios to boot to cd first, just to be on the safe side, save and exit and when the machine reboots it will boot to the cd which will then start the linux install.
  23. Not quite sure I understand the question. Just about any computer can run linux just as just about any computer and run windows or lindows(although why you'd want to run linows I'll never know). Do you mean without dualbooting so you have a linux only box? Thats easy, if you have a bootable cd blow away whats on the drive and set your bios to boot to cd and away you go.

    booting

Yes like Ramfree said. In the MCC under Boot, I think theres an option to create a boot disk, also during the install it give you the option to create one as I recall.
