It sounds like your using this for a business. In that case, maybe you should look into using the enterprise edition of Red Hat. Afterall, saving 3 or 4 hours on a problem will already cover the cost of purchasing it (their products start at $179US and assuming a minimal rate of $50US/hr). And they claim their phone response time is 4 hours. Glitz.

It's generally not a question of what it can't do but rather what it does differently. People like to use what they know how to use. In a similar manner, file converters like to convert what they know how to convert. Luckily, most people probably only use about 5% of a word processors features, generally it isn't a problem to switch as long as the other package has those 5% as well. The problems usually only set in when people try to be too clever for their own good and use features just because they're in there. They end up using some really obscure feature that they don't need to use and end up breaking the document once it is imported elsewhere. Glitz.

I tried to install rivatv on Mandrake 9.2 after patching it to use the new i2c bus structures found with lm_sensors. It compiles correctly but I still get dependency problems when I try to modprobe the modules. Has anyone managed to successfully install this under Mandrake 9.2 or any other 2.4.22 kernel? Glitz.

This release is exactly what LM9.0 should have been. I love it. It is the first release since LM8.2 that actually properly runs all the applications I use under LM8.1. They finally have DGA working properly out of the box as well (unlike 9.0 and 9.1). All in all, it seems like a great release to me. I can finally move all the stuff from my LM8.1 installation over without any worries or problems. Glitz.

I am using 9.2 and I had no problem logging in after clicking on the link in your message. Are you sure SWAT is enabled and running? Go to Mandrake Control Center and under System->DrakXServices check that it is running. Also, try the root account name and password (although it worked with my regular user as well). Glitz.

Would it be possible to list your XF86Config-4 file? I'm curious if I can use it to get a dual head Matrox G400 going. Glitz.

Please list your hardrive configuration and your lilo configuration (including which partition you installed it on). I'm guessing that what you want is to have lilo on the windows disk master boot record and tell lilo that windows is on hda1 and linux is on hdb1. I'm guessing here since I don't know the specifics of your partition arrangement. Glitz.

It's probably a little before your time (circa 1988). But basically, you have a 3d view of the chess board and each piece is a character. When you make a move the piece moves to it's new location and if it takes another piece then an animation of the battle is shown on the chess board. It was really cool. Glitz.

I have an EPIA M10000 and managed to get the TV out working once. But, not with their drivers (I didn't have them installed). I do know, however, that you have to change the setup in the BIOS to output to the TV out connector. You can choose both TV out and RGB. The next thing to do is remove any resolutions from your XF86Config-4 file that can't be displayed on the TV (eg. 1280x1024). Otherwise, you'll be stuck in console mode (even on the regular monitor). Start with something low (eg. 640x480) and work your way up from there, adding modes one at a time. Good luck, Glitz. PS. Other than that, I didn't have to make any other changes to get it to work.

Try "save as". I think it uses the same settings if you just use save whereas save as allows you to state new compression parameters. I may be completely wrong about this but that's the way one of the programs I use does it. Glitz.

Try installing the package for nas the network audio system. That contains libaudio.so.2. If you have any more dependency problems regarding Rosegarden then have a look at this page: http://rpmfind.net/linux/RPM/cooker/contri...9-1mdk.ppc.html Simply click on any of the requires links to find a package containing the required file. I know this is the PPC version of cooker but I could swear that I installed nas when I compiled Rosegarden. Nas should be on the Mandrake CDs. Glitz.

You may be alright if you use a lighter window manager like ICEWM light. I have a LM8.1 install on a Pentium 100MHz machine with 48MB of memory. It's not fast but it is usable. Glitz.

You need to instal some package from the Mandrake CDs that contains the audio library. I don't remember off hand which ones do but you can search the software installer for a package containing libaudio. Glitz.

32dBA @ 1m is whisper quiet. That's what the M10000 fan puts out. 35dBA (assuming also at 1m) should be roughly twice that (although hearing is nonlinear and very subjective). The Epia boards include a CPU that is not removable. You can expect the Athlon 1500XP to produce a lot of heat and take a lot of power. The Athlon alone probably takes about as much power as the entire Epia board including CPU and memory. You can also expect the Athlon to be much more powerful. The Epia board will also take up about half the area of a mini-ATX board. You are also going to need a power supply and it will have a fan in it as well. The smaller the power supplly the higher the likelyhood that it will have a quiet fan. You probably wont need more than a 75W power supply for the EPIA M10000, a hard drive, and a CDROM. You probably wont find a power supply smaller than about 150W though. Glitz.

Those HP laserjet IIIs are built like tanks. They just keep going, and going, and going... :wink: I have one too. I was wondering what kind of print quality you get on yours. My windows apps print fine but my linux apps don't (esp. Star Office). I was thinking about getting a postscript card to improve the print quality. Glitz.

I like to download from servers in eastern european countries while they are sleeping. I tend to get about 250-300KBs (just over 2Mbps which is the limit for my cable provider). It takes on the order of 40 minutes per CD. I find the Chekoslovakian sites tend to be really good. Glitz.

I started on LM6.0 and used that until LM8.1 came out because it did what I needed it to do. The 7.x versions didn't add anything I needed and where unstable on top of it. I only upgraded to Lm8.1 because I wanted the newer SMP performance boost of the 2.4 kernel. I currently use LM8.1 even though I've tried the LM9.x series because I have it working just the way I like it. And I would have to search the web for all the packages that I have from the LM8.1 powerpack that aren't included in the LM9.x series. The one thing that would make me switch to LM9.2 would be to get my Soundblaster AWE32 card to work with ALSA. Glitz.
