  1. I am in the same boat here.... I have followed the user manual from http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/Research/SRG/netos.../user/user.html and setup the grub config but unfortunately I can't get passed the "re-mounting file system in read-write mode" stage. Anyone here to help us out ?
  2. Hi all, I have downloaded Mandriva 2006 (not ISO's) and set it up on my networked box and trying to install it via the network. I have got the 2 floppy disks with the network.img and network_drivers.img ready After rebooting, network image disk loads and at the end, it asks lists the installation method. I select ftp and select OK. It then asks me to insert the Drivers image floppy. Second disk goes in and I select OK. System copies the files and errors with the message: "This floppy doesn't contain the driver"... I select OK It then gives me another Error message: "Warning, Installation of driver failed. (please include msg from <Alt-F3> for bugreports) .... which is as follows: ################################################################### * PCI: device 11ab 4320 1458 is "Marvell Semiconductor, Inc. I88E8001 Gigabit Lan PCI Controller", driver is sk98lin * have to insmod sk98lin * found net interface lo, but blacklisted * needs sk98lin * have to insmod floppy * needs floppy * succeeded floppy * /dev/fd0 type: H1440 * track: 0 * mounting /dev/fd0 on /tmp/floppy as type ext2 * copy_file: /tmp/floppy/modules.mar -> /tmp/tmpfs/modules.mar * short write (Invalid argument) * file-not-found-in-archive sk98lin.ko (maybe you can try another boot floppy such as 'hdcdrom_usb.img') * warning, insmod failed (sk98lin (null)) (2) * unsetting automatic * NET: was expecting another network interface (broken net module?) ################################################################### If I do not hit Alt+F3 then it returns me to a screen to choose from a list of drivers to "gain net access" In the list I find the driver sk98lin.ko which I presume is the driver to the "Marvell" Network Card I have. I select it and hit OK which brings me to another screen which says: "Please enter the parameters to give to the kernel:" followed by an "Options" input box. Now thats where I am stuck at in the installation process. I googled a bit and found this page: http://www.syskonnect.com/syskonnect/suppo....htm#Section3.1 which is some documentation on the installation of the drivers into the kernel. However my scenario is a bit different here I think. Anyone have ideas on how I can proceed? Alternatively is it possible to install the distro if I burn all the downloaded files onto DVD's. I am guessing there might be a list of files which go onto Disc1, Disc2 Disc3 etc.. which I am not sure ( and hence I am guessing ISO's make life easier :o) ) Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading this far! cheers, Jeffery
  3. Hi folks, I want to get Mandrake 10.1 official 10.1 running on my dual booting PC which I have Windows XP and Mandrake 10.0. This is so I am certain it will run smoothly and so I can setup my development environment before I migrate fully. Is it possible to running an other distro on the spare third disk I have ? If, How do I go about setting it up with the boot loader ? Thanks
  4. Ok here is some information to help resolve the problem. Any ideas anyone ? FSTAB MOUNT FDISK
  5. Problem is the PC is my friends, who lives 400+ KMs away and she is on dial-up. Mandrake 10.1 was an Xmas gift and its turning out not the best one I have given :o ok can't use Knoppix to mount partitions.. is there an other solution ? Thanks
  6. OK - obviously I've effed something up, cos when I try and boot into Mandrake I get the following messages: and then regardless of whether I select yes or no I then get: anyone has a soultion to this ?
  7. The above quoted from the php site. I can't find the .cvsrc file in my Mandrake 9.1 distro. How do I verify CVS is configured properly ? Thanks Jeffery
  8. nope thats not what I was looking for. Thanks anyway for your response. I have found an other solution to my problem with a different approach. :) :)
  9. hmm I am not sure if that will work. The whole point is to keep the downloadable files under the webroot and make it available through a script. Symlinking from under the webroot to a folder sitting above the webroot won't do much good.... unless I didn't understand your response very well(I tried it though).
  10. Qchem's code worked and I can access it via command line.. but as ramfree17 mentioned, it must be a security feature, I can't access the downloads folder via ftp. In my case downloads(under public_html) is a sub domain which contains basic files to control the downloads. downloads folder outside the webroot contains the downloadable files. How can I make it so that when I login to the subdomain, that I can upload files to the downloads folder which is sitting outside the webroot ?
  11. Hi I am trying to create a symlink for a folder. I am doing this via ssh which connects to my Web server. The server structure looks like this: How can I make a symlink for the uploads folder which when browsed through ftp client will take you to the downloads folder which is outside the webroot(public_html) folder. Thanks
  12. thanks, but that example gives me the following results: bash-2.05a$ mv ./ ../testbed/ mv: cannot overwrite directory `../testbed/.' bash-2.05a$ mv ./ ../testbed mv: cannot overwrite directory `../testbed/.' testbed directory already exists... do I have to delete it before doing it ? [edit].... ooops sorry... re-trying again with the proper code....
  13. I am trying to move all the contents of the current directory I am in into an other directory. I gave the following command but it moves only the files not the directories and sub-directories/files in it. bash-2.05a$ mv ./*.* ../testbed/ I am sure its something simple ... which I coudn't find in the man pages(or am I blind?) Thanks Jeffery
  14. hey did you try changing the browser to Konqueror ? I have no problems with konqueror. By default it was Mozilla, which was not working(opening in the existing opened browser) so I switched to Konqueror. Don't have opera to check :(
