  1. Anyone running 10.0 Cooker?
  2. This may not be what you need but when I first installed 9.1 and set up my dsl, Mandrake asked for my log in and gave an ex. as --- login name@yourisp.com -- or something close. But it would not work until I dropped the --@yourisp.com-- and just used my login name. Just a quick thought.
  3. The only problems I've seen were with the LG drives and I think those were just CD-Rom drives under 9.2 --- Linux is usually very friendly with all drives. You'll just need the DVD burning apps. My suggestion is that you go googling and do a search in the hardware section of this board. If you do go ahead and but the burner be sure to post how it works out!
  4. I know this sounds stupid but I did this too like 3 times before I realized it. When you unmuted and turned all the volumes up in kmixer did you save the new settings to default?
  5. Right click on your present icon then left click on the icon image. Then click browse and pick your fav. image! p.s. I don't use gaim but most likely they have a .png file in your installed directory for an icon.
  6. Sweet Thanks for that one esage --- I never knew that was there!
  7. When you set your protocols for things such as ftp and whatnot there will be an open port or one waiting for permission. If you chose to deny service when you set your protocols for something it will completly block a port that is known to use that service. If your super paranoid you can go full stealth but you'll find alot of things blocked as per se if you do online banking and such. But that's just my take on it I'm a bit of a noob myself.
  8. Darkelve ---- I'm all about doing it myself ( or yourself -- however you read it ) sometimes it gets frustrating as hell but the stuff you learn along the way is more than worth it!
  9. Don't know if you got your answer or not! We really need to do something about that -- maybe get an icon set or something a poster can use to show "Problem Solved!" But I just urpmi'd Grip and converted a cd of .wav songs to .mp3's with no problem at all! Hope this helped.

    Weird KDE error

Which Mandrake and are you using?
  11. Sweet! I love this board. durvish
  12. Does anyone with 9.2 know what happened to the kicker button for superuser file browser? I had this option in 9.1 but can't seem to find it in 9.2

    KDE 3.1.4

I tried grabbing tex's 3.1.4 through the MCC and completly hosed my kde desktop! Just a warning pay attention to those dependancy pop ups MCC gives you - cause I didn't! oops oh yeah I'm running 9.2 --- 3.1.4 worked beautifully with 9.1.
  14. So if I was the test subject for these ISO's and MUB uses them for official 9.2 ISO's does that mean my status gets bumped up to Super cool guy or something? lol
  15. It's been 2 days now and it seems very stable --- nothing to complain about. If this keeps up I think I'll install it onto my main system!
  16. Forget about my last post here. K3B was ripping bad iso's --- after fixing k3b and burning new disks it booted just fine! A very fast and smooth install!!!! I checked for updates in MCC and it only called for 1 meg!!!! I don't have LG cd-roms so i'm not sure if these iso's have the fix in them -- please keep this in mind if your going to use these iso's. Maybe someone else here can check on that. I've only been up and running for about 30 minutes so I'll report back after I've done some playing around!
  17. These ISO's arenot --- I repeat not--- bootable! But with a little work they might be. Might be fun to play with though.
  18. Yeah but you never know --- it would be nice if these were upgraded 9.2 ISO's --- we'll see in a few hours as soon as I burn the cds and try an install on my test system.
  19. Sorry guys --- seems to be a slow download --- won't be able to test it till Wed. night!
  20. I'll download them tonight and maybe try an install tomorrow.

    Boot problems

I just re-read through the post and noticed you never said anything about trying to boot into XP in safe mode -- give this one last try before you kill XP. As far as a Linux book I like RUNNING LINUX by Matt Walsh! I think the latest version is the 4th edition.

    Boot problems

I hate to say it but I think it might be time to kill Windows. Follow bvc's suggestions on repartitioning with MCC. If you can get into the Windows file system from Mandrake copy the files you want to keep to your Mandrake documents file and then repartition. If the XP disk won't help and reloading the Windows MBR from the Mandrake install rescue option won't help I think this is the way to go. Anybody else have any better ideas? One last idea that just came to mind --- did you ever make an XP rescue floppy per chance. I've never used one but that might get the registry fixed. Alot of times if the Windows registry is hosed there is no other way to boot up Windows.

    Boot problems

I had this problem many, many moons ago with XP. It turns out it was a virus that wouldn't let XP load. I booted with the XP install disk and ran a rescue install and it kept all my existing data. Then a month ago I switched to running Linux exclusivly and haven't had a Windoze problem yet! lol
  24. Has anyone found out if it is the installer or the driver that causes this?
