(Finally I got a chance to use that in real conversation!) Shhhh! They were all impressed with me until you said that! (Assumming they didn't just think I was spouting nonsese) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I thought you did! :P
  3. very swish icons, i love em /me applies to system
  4. There are also animated boot screens for lilo, with games to play @ link
  5. the avatar in my sig is a cropped version of my deviantID (seen on my deviantART account at plati@deviantART.com ) and was made by me. Avatar on left is just a generic pic of a gasmasked guy which i negatived
  6. there is an installer on Linux-Gamers.net I think youll still need wineX though :(
  7. mmm i must try LFS one day, as soon as I get gentoo working....and download and check out FC2......and then LFS ^_^
  8. Its probably because we save so much money not having to pay for an OS or for most programs :D
  9. hmmm, im not sure about those errors, maybe try wiping the linux partition and trying again. Ive never used ext2 filesystem before, only ext3, and Ive never had a problem with it. You could also try restoring the bootloader by going into the rescue (or repair, not sure) mode and finding the restore bootloader option. This might (hopefully) fix the problem with windows booting. Worst case scenario, have your drives been behaving properly in the past? All that permission denied stuff reminds me of a hard drive failure I had, but Id look at that option as a last resort. Hope this helps somehow
  10. Must check this out. Hopefully it will have more compatibility, and that sound fix is good news :)
  11. Theres a heap of guides on how to install games as well as how to tweak them for best performance on a linux system over @ Linux-Gamers Hope it helps in future :)
  12. Well.....AU$50 is about US$20 to put it in perspective :P and that 50dollar price was 4 years old, god knows how much you could pick one up for now
  13. I use a Sony Memory Stick reader (MSACUS1) for the Memory Sticks used in my digital camera and also for backing up my website onto. Basically it acts just like a USB thumbdrive, just plug it in and it should pop up on the desktop (in Mandrake at least), if not, you can mount it, it usually appears in /dev as sda1 or something of the like. You can use the camera exactly like a memory card reader, so whatever type of file it is you are copying, there shouldnt be a problem B)
  14. I used an Acermodem 56 Surf : worked out of the box : COM port connection. Cost about AU$50 (that was 4 years ago)

    transgaiming forum

Very young forum by the looks of it but I might member up there. Should grow fairly quickly :)
  16. looks quite insane Have you played it yet? Whats it play like? I still reckon Urban Terror TC mod for Q3A is the best out there website
  17. yep id recommend fedora. Everything's available, and it has a cool default icon set :P Its ability to use yum *and* apt-get is cool, and means youll always find what you want. Plus I feel its more up to date, coz its like....cooler
  18. Likewise here and hell I dunno which idiot had that idea for any ix86/Linux would be perfectly fine. Definitely, half the school computers have memory leaks at the moment anyway! POS! and novell has so many evil watching programs like zenworks so they can stop you from playing games, and watch your desktop
  19. ooo my understanding from what iphitus has done with Novell software on his linux laptop, is that it is free.. At least, groupwise is....i think :S My school uses Novell....grrr nazi control programs
  20. Well I can answer you properly that your first linux system is really up to you. But Mandrake is great for coming to grips with the entire linux way of life hehe. As for the rest of your questions, that is a nice graphics card! I hope youre gonna use it somewhere! Im sure there would be linux system imaging software out there somewhere, maybe someone else can suggest a program? :) I personally dont think it's worth signing up with the club, but that might have something to do with my constant distro switching. Just check out the privileges, if it's tech support youre after, all linux users are happy to help each other, hell, thats why this forum is here right? :D

    PS Emulator

I havent actually used ePSXe myself, but in my experience with emulation, not all games will work under the programs. Check out this page for a listing of all the games that should work under ePSXe 1.60. Otherwise, I guess its a rudimentary question, is the cd mounted?
  22. Yeah shared RAM between onboard components like a video chipset can really suck! Go for a proper video card, it just avoids the bottleneck that can sometimes be created. Onboard sound seems to be alright, unless you call yourself an audiophile, I doubt youd notice the difference in sound quality
  23. FC2 has been nice to me so far :) A little sluggish at times, but its great while Im working on this gentoo install. /me ges back to hitting gentoo with a hammer to make it work
  24. I got pretty comfortable with FC1 a couple of months ago until I broke X somehow trying to update to gnome 2.6, then ran away and waited until FC2. Is FC2 available for official download yet or not?
  25. yepperz we do! go wine! install some beer while youre at it maybe? :P
