  1. This "feature" has been pulled for the time being. http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=96256
  2. I saw this link posted at the other Mandriva forum. http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Plasma/FAQ
  3. I have been having issues recently with AT&T's GPRS 3G network. I downloaded some script files from Sierra Wireless and am using pppd to run them. It's only been a couple of days, but so far so good. We'll see if it holds up in other locations. See my thread below for more details. AT&T cellular modem (860 Aircard) and constant disconnects
  4. I went to the Main page and clicked on Help, which brought me to the support page. And what is listed is the Release notes and Errata for 2008! http://www.mandriva.com/ >>> http://www.mandriva.com/en/support/getting-help
  5. Your experiences remind me of the last iPhone release. I guess sometimes having a slow internet connection can be a blessing. :P
  6. I agree with you John. Unless Ian knows something that I don't. I admit Ian is much more knowledgable on Linux than I am. I used to have an ABIT motherboard with the Intel ICH7R chipset. This has the Intel Option ROM for RAID support. You can build the RAID without an OS installed. http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/cs-020663.htm
  7. Don't let me hold you back. :) See if these two threads are any help. http://www.linux-wizard.net/index.php?id_blog=220 http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=92423
  8. Since the final release version of Mandriva 2009 will be out in a few short days, I don't see why you just don't wait, coming in this late in the game.
  9. To see the security tabs in Windows, then in Windows you either have to turn off "Simple file sharing" or else boot up in SAFE MODE.
  10. My experience with Hardware RAID 1 on Windows XP is that if a disk fails - it is dropped out. The INTEL Application Accelerator or INTEL Matrix Storage Manager shows an icon in the notification area letting you know something is amiss, but the computer is still fully functional. If you replace the failed disk, the new disk must be at least as large as the previous disk. However if you replace say a 100GB disk with a 200GB disk, only 100GB is available when you mirror the disks. The other 100GB is cannot be seen by the OS. I do not have a lot of experience with this, and I ended up replacing the (failed) motherboard that supported hardware RAID, so I have not used it in several years. [i thought the replacement motherboard had the INTEL chip that supported hardware RAID, but I was mistaken.]
  11. I am glad that link was useful to you. :)
  12. You might look on the following page and see if your keyboard behaves as one of those pictured. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keyboard_layout
  13. On my system there was an icon on the bottom right of the taskbar (I have removed KPowerSave do to a Suspend problem). It should look like a plug or battery. If you click on it you can configure KPowerSave.
  14. Just a heads up. https://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=44147
  15. The way I set up Windows to print to my Netgear Print server was to first install the printer drivers on Windows. Next choose "Add a printer" in Windows using a generic tcp/ip port. Finally right-click on the printer, chose Properties > Ports > make sure the box: Standard TCP/IP port is checked > click on Configure Port. Port name should be IP_xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where the x's are the IP address of the printer - in my case it was IP_192.168.0.1). For Printer name or IP address you should have xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (where the x's are the IP address of the printer - in my case it was 192.168.0.1). For protocol, choose LPR. For Queue name choose LPT1. This is what works for me. I can't say I know all that much about networking though.
  16. Thanks, but no. Very interesting read, but I think I'll just stick with Mandriva for now. :D
  17. Why don't you try uninstalling Flash Player and reinstalling it?
  18. It's in Main Backports. ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/...main/backports/
  19. I'm glad you got it working and did not give up too soon! :) So which method did you use - the softlink or did you install the libpng2 rpm? The answer could help someone else in the future. ;)
  20. I did find libpng2, but it is quite out-of-date. Might work if you want to give it a try. I can't say what will happen. http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3/stat/4/idp...k.i586.rpm.html A better solution might be to do what Scarecrow posted about 3 years ago. Create a softlink. https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=25965
  21. I am sure your printer will work with Mandriva without the need for the Turboprint drivers. You probably won't have quite all the features available that are included with the Windows drivers, such as duplex printing, but still the output should look just fine. Here is the link to the page for the Linux Drivers. Just install the rpm files. Canon PIXMA iP1500 Linux drivers Install the bjfilter-common-2.50-3.i386.rpm file first. Next install the bjfilter-pixmaip1500-2.50-2.i386.rpm file. Lastly install the bjfilter-pixmaip1500-lprng-2.50-2.i386.rpm file. Follow the steps in this blog: http://mp610.blogspot.com/2007/11/setup-ca...0-or-mp610.html
  22. After reading your post I decided to finally do a full system scan, and these same 33 viruses were on my system at the same location: /usr/share/doc/clamav/test/. If you mouse over the file entry in KlamAV, the following message is displayed: ClamAV-Test-File: clam.xxx contains the ClamAV test signature. It's not a virus. I am fairly confident this is normal and no cause for alarm.
  23. I think that ClamAV has a tendancy for false positives. On my install of KlamAV, I have the boxes unchecked for: * Treat a Broken Executable as a Virus * Mark Encrypted Files as Suspicious BTW, the latest versions of ClamAV and KlamAV (in backports) are: * ClamAV 0.94 * KlamAV 0.44
  24. I installed a Canon PIXMA MP600 using similar files. See what I did in the following thread. http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=71447
