  1. Kmymoney (there are more here http://www.kde-apps.org/index.php?xcontent...558583cd7a5c9d) However gnucash is the best of the lot. The only thing missing is budgetting.
  2. I believe the buttons for pause, stop etc come only with newer versions of the mplayerplug-in. I have 2.66 installed and I have the controls.
  3. Yes monday is the first day of the week (at least in Holland it is). Sunday is the day of rest. How can you rest in the beginning of the week? You rest after having worked hard all week :).

Try using alsamixergui to adjust settings. And I found this: http://www.alsa-project.org/alsa-doc/doc-p...module=intel8x0 Maybe there is something in it for you. Good luck
  5. option "NoLogo" "1" in your XF86Config-4
  6. You need a login manager like kdm, or you could just type 'kde' at the prompt :) (or if that doesn't work the full path /usr/bin/startkde) The mozilla thing is likely someone who doesn't like you copying pictures from his/her site. Don't worry about that and look in your browsercache.
  7. Turn of 'hot network plugging' in the MCC. (go to internet, network administration, tab configure and untick this option. (I'm translating from Dutch so it might not exactly be named like this :) ) Good luck

    tv card :/

Probably the driver you have choosen doesn't work. What's your 'lsmod' output? Best thing to do is to look on your tv card what chip it's using (or look on the box it came in :) ) and then google for a driver (called module in Linux). If Mandrake doesn't come with a driver you have to build one yourself. Good luck.
  9. It's a problem where the bootloader is installed. I can't remeber exactly but during install you have 3 options where to put lilo/grub. You must use the default one. (or if that doesn't work use the others and see wich one works :) )

No that's not normal :) What is you problem exactly Do you maybe have 2 soundcards? Check the kmix settings if it is using the right one. What red lights are that?
  11. Do you use KDE? Look in the desktop settings--> Background. :)

    Error

Unplug the USB mp3 player/ camera/ webcam etc etc etc and try again.
  13. I believe kwifimanager does what you want (to install: urpmi kwifimanager)
  14. Dict works as a client/server (kdict is the client and dictd the server). If you want to acces dict files locally you have to set up a dict server (look in the kdict help for a HOWTO). Much simpler is to use a publicly available dict server (dict.tugraz.at is a good one). Go to settings--> kdict settings--> hostname: XXXXXXXX. For XXXX use your favorite dict server. On the dict.og webpage you an find a complete listing of servers. Good luck.

    MainActor v5

I tried it for a few hours and in my opinion it isn't worth the E170. First it took me half an hour to discover that it doesn't like long filenames. Freevo saves a program like this: 07-29_22:50_Kuifje_-_.mpeg and mainactor doesn't like that. You have to rename the file to whatever.mpeg for it to load. Second, I don't have a soundcard that does hardware mixing. Mactor is having problems with that. Movies in the preview window wouldn't play. I had to start it with artsdsp mactor for it to work. People say OSS has difficulty coming up with an intuitive UI but Mainactor proofs commercial software finds it just as hard. PS: and why does it have to be so ugly.
  16. If Mandrake didn't come with a driver for your card you need to go look for it yourself. If your're extremely lucky maybe there is an rpm you can use. Otherwise you have to compile it yourself (and in extreme cases, even compile a new kernel with the new dvb modules). Good luck
  17. Hope this makes things morecleare. Good luck.
  18. Try first what bvc advised. When you told us about the black screens I thought you might be having a problem with X (the graphics server). Most problems with X when you installed Mandrake for the first time are just configuration errors. With XFdrake you can change your settings and you should be able to start KDE or whatever (KDE is a DE (desktop environment)). Now you a problem that your computer reboots and that sounds like that there is something more serious wrong. When Linux boots it starts all kinds of processes. You can tell Linux, sort of, what processes you want it to start. When you choose Linux fail safe very few processes get started so there is little change things can go wrong. When you type 'init 3' more processes get started (internet for example) and that means more things can go wrong but you can also do more things. When you normally boot Mandrake it goes directly to stage init 5. That means X get started, the DE loads and you can do all kinds of things. But of course all kinds of things can go wrong to. Now your situation. If what BVC advised you doesn't work the best thing to do is to reinstall. Just do a default installation (you can always tweak later). If that doesn't work check your CD's and your hardware. It's alway nice to see some one enthousiastic about Linux but don't get to carried away. There probably comes a time when you will almost curse it as much as windows (I said almost). But when you do get it to work as you want, you don't need anything else. Good luck And I keep forgetting things: http://www.linux-mandrake.com/en/demos/Dem...ake9.0/Install/ Use this as a step by step introduction to installing Mandrake (it's old but the installation process hasn't changed much.)

    Linux Games

If you're interested in more than PC games: a lot of arcade (with xmame alone you can play over 4000 games) and console games can be played with no problem in Linux.
  20. In KDE you can rightclick the windowbar, choosse advanced, choose screen always in background. That way it 'seems' the program is 'sticking' to the desktop (it will never cover other programs). You can change in the KDE control center (kcontrol) the options for the taskbar. You could choose 'only show minimized applications'. That way you won't have an open window shown in your taskbar. However this is systemwide so other applications will show the same behavior. But if I understand you correctly you want to replace the kde window manager with something you have made yourself? Maybe you could post this question in the KDE forums. I'm sure you will find much more knowledgable people there. Good luck

    KDE themes

I doubt it (though I have tried it). However most wndowdecorations and styles have been ported to 'KDEnewest' (take a look in PLF) so it is easy to re-create your favorite theme. Good luck
  22. Did you install Kdict using urpmi? Then you don't have to care about dependencies. If not do a make uninstall and use urpmi to install kdict. PS a good dict server is : dict.tugraz.at Good luck
  23. Forget what I said about the remote and being difficult. The people of lirc have been hard at work and the latest cvs snapshot (07.0pre7) compiles without errors and works out of the box. Good luck
  24. KDE has a kiosk mode. Don't know about Gnome but I guess they will have something similar. Good luck http://extragear.kde.org/apps/kiosktool.php
  25. http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-0.90.0.14-mdk.i386.rpm The story is out on /.. Guess their servers can't handle it. Lucky for you Opera saves download information :)
