  1. Can you boot into another WM? Type: startx icewm (or if it´s not installed first: urpmi icewm :) ) If you get the blackscreen, it means the nvidia driver isn´t installed cirrectly. Edit /etc/xorg.conf and change the driver to nv and try again. That should be it.
  2. Do you have an nvidia card and use the nvidia driver? Then you need to install the driver again. If you install KDE from mde a new vxorg version gets installed so you have to reinstall the nvidia driver.
  3. Very nice. This is really better than easy-urpmi.
  4. You nee to install that module. The other one depends on it. :)
  5. According to Google it could be a problem with the brand of the DVDs. Try different ones. I don't know if you can read Dutch but here is a link: http://www.mandrivaclub.nl/site/index.php?...topic=5656&st=0
  6. Mplayerplugin is a seperate piece of software. You need to install that too: Urpmi mplayerplug-in
  7. Kernel and kernel-source don´t match. You need: kernel-source-2.6-2.6.12-12mdk
  8. You need to install a gcc version lower then 4.0.1 (try 3.4) and run ./configure CC=gcc3.4 (check the name gcc3.4. It needs to be exact. If for example you have 3.4.1 you need to put gcc3.4.1)
  9. There is a topic on this board that describes how to remove it. You need to delete a file somewhere. Only I can't find that topic right now and I have to go. I'll look later.
  10. Installed it. Biggest difference: new kde menu button :D
  11. Yes you can but I don´t think you have a problem with your kernel, only with the driver for the modem. If you download the kernel from kernel.org you miss all the mandriva patches.
  12. Check if kernel and kernel-source match. Better post the output of the make command and not the spec file.
  13. That error probably means that the module (driver) was build for a different kernel. make sure you install the correct rpm packages.
  14. If it´s a bug there isn´t much you can do (other then building the apps from source and making sure the right versions get installed). The only solution is to use a different application. My suggestion: avidemux (install with: urpmi avidemux) Good luck.
  15. Install KDE :). From a console as root type: urpmi kdebase. Or boot into icewm, open the MCC, install software, search for kde and install kdebase and all its dependencies and other packages you want to install (look in the wiki from my sig for more info)
  16. You need the 32 bits mplayer version (just as you need a 32 bit browser to use 32 bits plugins)
  17. Works for me. Try again.
  18. https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtopic=27373
  19. Open a console, login as root and type: mcc Go to softwware, upload your configuration and post the errors.
  20. It´s not a big risk but why take any chances. I find that after a few logins I remember complex passwords just as well as easy ones. Only if I hardly use a password I tend to forget it.
  21. Mandriva uses urpmi to install software. Check the wiki in my sig. For more information on howto install from source click on configuration in the sidebar.
  22. I always use this: Looks good enough. Then there are various kommander scripts (look on kde-apps.org) that provide a gui for morst of the mencoder options. That might be usefull.
  23. Mandriva install software with urpmi (read the wiki, link in my sig).
  24. It's still possible to play with sound in Linux. Does your mobo have onboard sound or do you have another soundcard? Install qsynth, load a soundfont and use rosegarden. I's the closest Linux has to Cubase. It's quite good. :)
  25. Looks like a font server problem like you found in the mailinglists. You can start it (or check its status) by logging in as root and by typing: service xfs start (or status). After that startx again.
