  1. I know it doesn't directly answer your question, but actually there is LabView version for linux (though I know nothing about supporting PCI card, you'll have to check it in their website. Makes sense the capabilities are similar, IMO).
  2. I don't have this problem, but just out of curiosity: how do you set the drive in which the program is installed? I mean, it's not like in windows where you can decide before the installation where to install it. How do you change the destination folder, or drive?
  3. Hi igotnoluck (nice name, BTW :) ), Before I start, I have no solution for you (just don't want to waste your time). I have exactly the same problem. If the solution you're expecting is like in Windows, where no matter what language you use the OS still "remembers" the functionality of the special keys, I doubt it if it's possible. IMO you can do two things: change the combination from Ctrl+c to something else using the F-keys (say F3) by changing some preference file. I doubt if it's easy as I introduced it, and I'm not totally sure it's going to solve anything. The second thing you can do is change the combination of keys used for switching between languages through the MCC (Mandriva Control Center). This way you'll still have to go back to English every time you want to do Copy-Paste, but at least it will be as easy as possible. It's probably best to wait for the experts, as my knowledge is quite poor. I'm also curious to hear if they have any creative idea for us. Good luck!
  4. See also my post regarding FreeMat. I PM'ed Adam about this, but got no response.
  5. In FF, type about:config in the address bar, then look for a field called browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash and disable it. Haven't tried it myself, but it sounds like it should work.
  6. I have X30. The hotkeys work for me after I installed a package called ibm-acpi through the MCC. Actually I just looked for "IBM" in the search box and found that package, didn't even look on the web.
  7. I don't know to say if it will create problems to the system, but the functionality of certain applications may be degenerated. For example, those fonts also serve also OO writer (or any other word processor you are using), as far as I know, so you will be left with four fonts only.
  8. Hi everybody, First of all, I'm pretty sure this forum is not the right place to ask this question. Feel free to move this topic wherever you feel it's right. I saw this program, called FreeMat. It's a matlab-like development environment, like R, SciLab or Octave. While the others can be found in the repos, FreeMat cannot. I'd like to suggest to add it to the repos. To whom and how should I address with my proposal? Thanks!
  9. Go to System -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Sessions On the Startup Programs tab click the Add button Under name and command type "gdesklets" Voila!
  10. If you are using, Gnome, you should take a look at gDesklets (also available in the repos, I recommend to install it from there): http://www.gdesklets.de/index.php?q=deskle...wse/category/31 For KDE there is SuperKaramba doing the same thing (also in the repos): http://netdragon.sourceforge.net/ssuperkaramba.html Another option is asking your wife what's the time every 5 minutes. Pick your choice, and good luck!
  11. OK, solved it myself. :) Damn, that one was difficult. It looks like it happened for many people, but I couldn't find the answer anywhere. Only users complaining. Finally I thought about this solution myself (total luck, BTW). Anyway, for the welfare of the next generations, I post here what I did: go here: http://gdesklets.zencomputer.ca/ look for the StarterBar desklet. download the 0.31.3 tar ball. extract the Install_StarterBar_Sensor.bin file. run the Install_StarterBar_Sensor.bin file. That's it. Probably not very wise, as the gDeklets version I'm running is 0.35.4, but works nonetheless. Good luck.
  12. Hi everybody, I'm running Mandriva 2008.0 on IBM X30. I installed from the repos the gDesklets application. I found here an application that mimics the Mac strterbar. After downloading the tar ball and installing the desklet, I double clicked it (in the gDesklet window) in order to activate it. I got the following error message: Log messages of /home/usr/.gdesklets/logs/gdesklets%3A0.0.log /usr/lib/gdesklets/main/TrayIcon.py:55: Warning: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed item.get_children()[0].set_text_with_mnemonic(label) ==========================================================[01/08/08-08:32:04]=== Deprecation: Sensors are deprecated since v0.30. 13. First of all, thank you. I still don't understand something fundamental. Take a look at this theme, for example: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php...T?content=26448 Is it intended for Linux or for Mac? How would I know? Does Mac use Gnome also? Cause I saw some Mac-ish themes in the site, so it looks awkward. I'm just afraid I'll try to install the wrong thing and won't be able to roll back to my functioning environment.
  14. I'd like to use this opportunity to ask a follow-up question. Do you know any site with cool themes? I'm looking at the "Show your desktop" threads and there are some astonishing things there, but I don't know how to do those things in Gnome. I looked at Gnome's website, but there the decorations are separated to components (buttons, backgrounds etc.) and I couldn't find integrated environments. Not to mention the fact that sometimes I see people changing their menu (Application-Places-System), which seems like a miracle to me. This is also true for the gDesklets - in their site I couldn't find a big variety of widgets. Where should I look?
  15. Another remark I thought about on my way home: since this is a business site, IMHO the marketing part is not emphasized enough, and it should be more aggressive. Why should the customer buy the service from you? What is the added value you provide relative to your competitors? Are you quicker, better, cheaper? Do you give service 24/7? Are you more experienced than the others? You get what I mean. Those are just ideas, if I'm not helping just give me the sign and I'll shut up.
  16. I liked the Linux Solutions site, even added it to my favorites. Regarding the Linux systems - I would add to the intro page some more information for the potential customer. Are you international? Do you give service worldwide, or in a certain continent/region/nation? Who are your potential customers - organizations, private users, do you support PC's, servers, both, etc. And I would skip the resolution remark, or at least put it in another place (bottom of the page), and smaller font. It's not what you want the customer to focus on. The theme looks great to me - it's very pleasant, and the structure of the site looks quite logical at a first glance. If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. Good luck!
  17. I'm not sure it's going to be so easy for them. If the computer's price is around 300 $ US, and for the windows license one is requested to pay another 50 or so, in percentage it's not negligible anymore. But times will tell.
  18. Xandros. And I also believe it can be installed from their package manager. If not, one can always install Mandiva on it (which seems to me like a good idea anyhow...)
  19. Don't know, but you can try and find out in the forums here: http://www.eeeuser.com/ You'll find plenty of EEE users there. Processor: 900 MHz Intel Celeron-M ULV 353 which has 512KB L2 cache RAM @ 630MHz (70MHz x 9) cooled by a fan I took it from here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASUS_Eee_PC And you'll find more about the specs in the formal Asus site: http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmen...p;l3=0&l4=0 If you get one, let me know how it is. ;)
  20. I use Gnome 2008.0 and not 2006, but the principal may be similar: Go to System -> Preferences -> Power Management In the "On AC Power" tab choose "Blank Screen" under "When laptop lid is closed". Did it help?
  21. Let me stand you corrected: Six days and six nights. With all due respect, I don't think anyone can reach such numbers by posting in day-time only. Get serious, man, think about it. Tell me, did this guy at least get a Gentoo expert title in the forum? Because if not, he really got screwed.
  22. What version did you install? MDV live or Free, Gnome or KDE? Do you encounter this problen when you mount from the live CD? And did you have a chance to update your programs? I saw that after installation of 2008.0 a new OO version was found in the repos.
