  1. I am sorry but I don't really understand your OP, what does this mean Everytime I start Wine now after kd5 update or w/e? are you running compiz/beryl or metisse? could you post any errors (marked with (EE) ) from /var/log/Xorg.0.log after that happened? I usually get problems like this when there are problems with my glx module....
  2. If you are using kde and have the kdemultimedia package installed just opening any audio cd will show you a virtual filesystem with various formats, including mp3, of the tracks you can rip... ps: why don't you try reinstalling but then with 2007.1 (spring), it is fixes a lot of bugs in 2007 (and 2006) pps: you don't need to have the soundsystem enabled to play sounds, i don't know what the soundsystem is supposed to do really other than crash continously...
  3. Hi, This should be stickied, really as many people ask this question.... http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Releases/Mandr...007.1/Notes#KDE
  4. give me the stream because they all work for me....
  5. http://files.myopera.com/arghwashier/files...0compile.tar.gz try these if you trust me copy them to ~/.opera/plugins and select them for the various mimetypes in preferences->advanced->downloads....
  6. You need to compile your own using gecko-sdk version 1.7 or lower, it doesn't work with the mandriva supplied one and maybe you need an older version too, like 3.25 or 3.21
  7. first upgrade to 2007.1 because it fixes many bugs still present in 2007.0 and then install and run etc-update and update all your config files to their new versions.... btw: I installed and upgraded from 2005->2006->cooker->2007->cooker->2007.1 without much problems
  8. after adding mms as a protocol in opera kaffeine was able to play it using the kmplayer part but not xine (2007.1)
  9. Unfortunately smarturpmi lists neither distrib-coffee nor anorien mirrors the two most up-to-date mirrors ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/.../MandrivaLinux/ ftp://anorien.csc.warwick.ac.uk/Mandriva/ these are the only 2 public mirrors people from mandriva, though not officially, make sure are working properly, if you are using cooker or want to upgrade your distro early it is best to use these mirrors....
  10. yes, just install kdebase for a minimal kde package or task-kde for the full kde desktop
  11. Welcome to MUB :D sounds like a graphics card driver issue. Do a console login or hit ctrl+alt+F1-6 login as root and then run XFdrake and select a card/driver until you find a working configuration. Afterwards we can go sorting out the best driver you want and making it work....
  12. It depends on the game. Some run quite well, others can be a bit slower. One of the statistics I heard was that Oblivion runs better under Cedega than it does in Vista, but that doesn't really mean too much my pc isn't exactly top notch anymore and i need all the power and minimum overhead to squeeze out those extra few frames/s.
  13. How does it compare to gaming under windows? I guess it will still be slower....
  14. Indeed it is a problem with USB and it never got resolved in 2007.0 for the stock kernels, it did get resolved for the 2007.0 multimedia-kernels (it's in contrib) and in the stock-kernels 2007.1
  15. try as root in a console: rm -rf /root/.local/share/trash/ to completely delete root's trash.... edit: oops, you beat me to it
  16. You need the mscorefonts, if you have a windows partition or cd you can use the mandriva control center (mcc from a console) to install them (under system->manage ....blabla...fonts) You also need to get the plf version of freetype, I think the package you need is libfreetype6 (set up plf by using easyurpmi: http://www.mandrivausers.org/easyurpmi/index.php ) and then if you use kde enable and configure anti-aliasing in de kde control center (kcontrol from a console) and maybe also configure FF to make websites use their own fonts (under edit->preferences->content->advanced button)
  17. Any Logitech or Microsoft keyboard should do, ask the vendor to try them out, at least get the feel of the keys and mouse. I am happy with my new Logitech MX3200, though I had first gotten the far more expensive MX5000 with bluetooth, which really sucked, connectionwise, constantly resulting in multiple keystrokes or delayed keystrokes....
  18. Backup /home, upgrade, run etc-update, and if it doesn't work do a fresh install? I upgraded from 2006->cooker->2007.0->cooker->2007.1 without many problems. Maybe use smart instead of urpmi to upgrade (maybe try and get the latest version from 2007.1 repos first). The only thing not really working for me was the mandriva-kde profile, I had to run the kde-configuration tool first.

    Nvidia Geforce 6100

You are changing the wrong file, have a look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf instead.....
  20. Another strange thing when I mount these partitions root is owner of Data and Windows whereas I am the owner of Data2
  21. I changed 2007.0 to 2007.1 and all packages appear to be online, since Saturday already ( I am using the french ditrib-coffee mirror, one of the most up to date mirrors). 2007.1 does appear to be good, a lot of annoying bugs from 2007 have been fixed and I haven't found any new ones introduced so far.
  22. For some reason Feisty does not want to mount my mandriva partition. here is my fstab: # /etc/fstab: static file system information. # <file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass> proc /proc proc defaults 0 0 /dev/sda2 / ext3 nouser,defaults,errors=remount-ro,noatime,auto,rw,dev,exec,suid 0 1 /dev/sdb1 /media/Windows ntfs-3g users,umask=007,noatime,noauto,rw,nodev,exec,suid,gid=46,defaults 0 1 /dev/sdb3 /media/Data ntfs-3g users,umask=007,noatime,noauto,rw,nodev,exec,suid,gid=46,defaults 0 1 /dev/sda5 /media/Data2 vfat users,noatime,umask=007,noauto,rw,nodev,exec,suid,gid=46,defaults 0 1 /dev/sda3 /media/Mandriva ext3 users,noauto,noatime,umask=007,rw,nodev,exec,suid,gid=46,defaults 0 2 noauto is needed to make the devices show up under media:/
  23. Most likely it will, in the worst case you would have to manually assign all the keys, but do yourself a favour don't buy Trust (even if it's dutch), they're products REALLY suck. Buy a Logitech or MS keyboard instead(*), they are not to expensive and will work..... *but not the bluetooth keyboards because they really too
