  1. i have an acer aspire 9100 with an ati mobility radeon x600, both with fglrx and ati drivers after suspending to ram the screen stays black, i can hear the computer waking up though edit:keyboard input doesn't seem to work either [moved from Hardware by spinynorman]

    acerhk

I had done that but it seemed hackish and I was wondering why adding to modprobe.conf didn't work

    acerhk

modprobe acerhk force_series=6000 makes my acer laptop extra keys work but after rebooting I need to modprobe again, even if I add option acerhk force_series=6000 to /etc/modprobe.conf I could only find a guide in polish :( to get everything working http://eko.one.pl/index.php?page=AristoSmart400
  4. you need to install the gtk-qt engine then an option to change the gtk theme under kde will show up in the kde control center, you can then choose to use either gtk-qt or any installed gtk theme without the need of any gnome stuff installed my guess is that there have been some changes in glib which affect gtk-qt engine causing some themes to look crappy in some gtk apps, the change happened for me in both gutsy and mdv2008.0 ps try deleting the .gtk related files in your home directory to get the gtk theme to change, sometimes they seem to get corrupted......
  5. the problem is a bug in xfdrake, not the driver. To work around the bug install the 100 version properly, check that is working (by restarting the x server or rebooting), uninstall everything nvidia related (especially the precompiled nvidia kernel package), now install the latest nvidia and nvidia dkms package (and your kernel's devel package), restart and know you should have the latest nvidia working http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=36420
  6. 2006->2007.0->2007.1 or 2008.0 might have worked my install is a 10.2rc upgraded from cooker
  7. 2006->2007.0 was a major change for mandriva: xorg changed from monolithic 6.9 to modular 7.1, where all driver modules are found in seperate packages, probably during the upgrade these packages are not automatically selected.
  8. known bug of the ati driver, see for solution and down... https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...st&p=346424
  9. iirc = if i recall correctly http://www.geocities.com/SouthBeach/Lagoon...9/acronyms.html the konsole is somewhere in the tools section of the "start" menu start it and type amd and try hitting tab a few times, it will try to autocomplete . I don't have an ati setup here and am not to sure about the name of the control center amdccc or something but use tab to autocomplete... then post the output here
  10. I think that if you dont enable the backports, they are unsupported..., it will all work. But I agree that this is a bug of XFdrake. I have found that it tries to download nvidia or ati-kernelflavour-latest and maybe set up some sym links to those kernel modules instead of using the dkms ones.... some people have a problem with closed source others don't. Mandriva offers you a choice: get the most out of your hardware or stay completely opensource and maybe have things not working 100%
  11. 2008.0 one does include it too but the free version only includes free and open software, so if you want to install you either need the powerpack or the one cd, which include the non-free stuff.
  12. hi welcome to mub :D start up the control center (amdccc iirc) from the terminal and post the output here
  13. Ah maybe the partitions weren't mounted or you used the media:/ url (when you use the shortcuts in de media tab) which only works for the logged in user and not for other users using a console to log in....
  14. I think you are saying you are in the root partition? You have to become root, ie in a konsole type su and then your password now from the konsole you can start konqueror or kwrite with administrator priviledges.

  16. Compiz runs pretty stable here with my nvidia 6600gt. Anyway using kwin you can make an entire window transparent, the --real-tyys ransparency switch only makes the background transparent while the rest stays legible...

    I dunno the basics

welcome to mub :D you don't download and install like you do in Windows go to a terminal type su followed by your adminestrator password type urpmi pidgin see for more explanation our wiki: http://wiki.mandrivausers.org/index.php/Qu...tallation_Guide
  18. ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/...2008.0.i586.rpm ftp://distrib-coffee.ipsl.jussieu.fr/pub/...07.0.noarch.rpm automatically and succesfully set up here with mandriva one
  19. Konqueror does this too though with file size view, there is a button on the toolbar
  20. how, if I enable translucency or special effect I simply get fake transparency?
  21. Start konsole with the following switch --real-transparency, ie konsole --real-transparency and select a transparent theme. You will also need a compositing manager such as compiz though.
  22. try to remove all nvidia related stuff then reinstall the latest nvidia driver and manually change xorg to use the propietary driver

    Dekorator RPM's

you could try building your own with this little guide here: https://mandrivausers.org/index.php?showtop...st&p=324211 though some say it's not wise building as root, maybe someone else can tell you how to set up a fakeroot and build. The package build fine system.
