    ut help!

I thought that the installer decompressed the maps automatically. Maybe not. 436 is the most up to date version of the installer. You can get it at http://www.3dgamers.com/games/unrealtourn/ They have both the GOTY and non versions for Linux, in full install and update. Give that a try and see what happens. I know it looks like the installer freezes when it's almost done, but if you look in the console window, it's actually uncompressing the maps. At least, that's the way it works on my machine with the GOTY installer.
  2. If you can hang out until I get to where my laptop is, I may be able to help you. It will be a few hours, but I will post here to see if what I find helps you out. As another question, though, are there any error messages in the logs after that particular step in the boot process? I'm not sure where to look for that, but there has to be a way to get this card working. Do you dual boot on this laptop? Is there a way you could email me a copy of your /etc/pcmcia/config file?
  3. Ok. I'm a bit confused, then. If you are not able to boot at all, how are you able to change the config file? My laptop gives very similar messages when it boots, I have one that you don't have which is: cardmgr[831]: executing: ./network/start/eth1 Or something very similar, I don't have the laptop in front of me to get the message exactly, but that message would be added after you config the card in MCC; once we get you that far. I am wondering if it actually freezes because of the wireless card or due to something else. I see this in your boot message: Starting jserver: What is this? It's not something I'm familar with at all. One more question: How long are you giving it before you give up and think it's freezing? It could be that something is taking a really long time to start up, but maybe not. What kind of laptop is it?
  4. Quick question just to verify something: Can you still access this partition from XP?
  5. leave the version part in there and just add the manfid and see what that does. Are you still able to boot to a prompt? Where is it freezing? What appears on the screen when it freezes? Just looking for a little more info to help you through your problem.
  6. That actually looks right to me. I have a Siemens Speedstream that gives very similar messages on boot. By the way, have you taken a look at my tutorial? http://www.mandrakeusers.org/viewtopic.php?t=5494 It might help you out with installing that card.
  7. I also have had no major problems with Mandrake 9.0 or 9.1 on my laptop. The ones I have had, I solved with the help of this board.
  8. The DVD-ROM should work great. I have a Pioneer and a Toshiba that are also not in the database, but work flawlessly. The Soundblaster may not show as officially supported, but it is 100% supported and recognized on install. It will work, trust me. The SMC card also should be supported. I see one of their chipsets on the Mandrake page and according to this page I see a lot of their cards supported, so it should work out just fine.
  9. GeForce 4 MX 440 64 MB for my desktop. I have no problems running RtCW, but I haven't tried ET. GeForce 4 Go 32 MB for my laptop, runs every game I have tried with no problems, including Diablo II through WineX.
  10. I believe you made this post in the Hardware section already, but I do agree that the Laptop section is probably a better place for it. I see no reason why Mandrake wouldn't work on the 600m. I have an Inspiron 8200 that is running ML 9.1 quite nicely. Some notes on the architecture, from the dell website: I have no experience with ATI video cards, I have only and probably will only own NVidia cards (personal choice, let's not start a war over this) but I hear that the ATI cards work under Linux, and I know there are Linux drivers available; just don't know how to install them. The Centrino processors are nice. I have a friend that has a Gateway laptop that has a Centrino and I'm more impressed with it than I am with my P4. I'm a little curious how well the built in wireless works. If you are currently using it and do decide to go Mandrake, please let us all know how it works. Other than that, everything looks standard. You should be able to get it working quite nicely. As I said in your previous thread, I would be glad to help you out with any questions you may have on your journey into Linux on that particular laptop.
  11. I'm not sure how different the architecture is on a 600m from the 8200, but I have successfully installed ML 9.0 and 9.1 on my 8200 with ease. No major problems at all (well, nothing this board hasn't helped me fix, anyway). Give it a shot and let us know how it turns out. If you need any help just shoot me a message and I'll help where I can.
  12. As far as I know, anti-aliasing for KDE (I assume that's what you're using) is only supported in 3.1 or later. I would suggest installing KDE 3.1.2 first. If you have texstar as a urpmi source, just type in a console (as root) urpmi kdelibs-3.1.2 and it should install everything you need to upgrade. As for a new look, I really like slicker and I use it on both my laptop and desktop as I am running KDE 3.1.2 on both. There are some great tutorials on that site explaining how to install it. I knot that at least one if not more of the members of this board are involved in the project (great job guys!) but I can't remember exactly who at the moment. Anyway, hope I helped you out at least a little.
  13. I found both of these games on Ebay. If you look for computer games and type in Linux, you actually find quite a few Loki titles.
  14. The Distros I have tried (in no particular order) RedHat 6.0, 7.2, 9.0 Mandrake 7.1-9.1 Morphix Ark h20 alpha 7 AltLinux Junior 2.2 JBLinux I keep coming back to Mandrake, though. I like it a lot more than anything else I have tried. I was thinking about trying a couple more distros, though; but that will have to wait until I get a third computer.
  15. The Seimens Speedstream card I bought for my laptop works great for Linux. It says on the box that it will work under Linux, but the website says they don't officially support it (They still have a pretty good faq and knowledge base about it, though). They also make PCI cards. Should be able to find them at Best Buy, and considering where you are in the country; you might be able to find them at Meijer.
  16. I was not aware of that. Thank you. I will give it a try when things die down at work and post my results here.
  17. Would the above files be created if I set X to start automatically on boot? I really want those buttons to be working and this is the last thing that I have that's really bothering me. I can set X to start up on boot, but I would prefer not to if there is something else I can do to get this script to execute on boot.
  18. Ok, stopped the display from shutting off, sort of. It froze on me just now, just wierd lines across the screen, couldn't see anything on the desktop, ctrl +alt + backspace didn't even log me out of X and I had to reboot completely. But that's another story. On one of the links that tyme gave out : http://jpstrand.homeip.net/user/delli8200/.../delli8200.html there is a section about the Extra buttons on my laptop. This is something that I had been trying to figure out since I got it before Christmas. It says a couple of things: Ok, did that, and installed the i8kutils package. Next: Ok, sounds easy enough; but where do I put this script? The page mentions the files ~/.xsession and/or the ~/.xinitrc file, but I don't have either of those files. Should I create them? What do you think?
  19. Don't know if this will help you out, but if you're looking for just parts, check out http://www.ebccomputers.com They're headquartered in Utah, but they will ship pretty much anywhere. I haven't found too many places that sell stuff cheaper. You could probably get everything you need for pretty cheap.
  20. Ok, I just had the monitor turn off on me on my laptop. I assume this is part of APM, but I don't know. I looked through MCC, but I didn't find a way to fix this or turn it off. I was using the mouse at the time, but that didn't seem to matter at all. It only responded to me hitting a key on the keyboard. When it came back, the screen looked stretched. I had to restart X to fix this problem. Not a big deal, but kind of a pain in the ass. Ok, here's the real question: Does anyone know a way to turn this off? I guess I could disable APM, but I want it on to be able to see the battery state. Also, the only time I have noticed this was when I was running from battery and not plugged in, but I think it would still happen if it was plugged in. If I can't turn it off, I would at least like it to respond to the mouse. If anyone has an idea, please let me know. I'll keep digging myself.
  21. That may actually be very helpful. I don't have my laptop at work today, so I will have to wait until later to check it out.
  22. I managed to turn acpi and acpid off and get apm turned on. Everything seems to be working great. My battery meter on the system tray and in gkrellm work now, instead of constantly showing as empty. Is there a way to automate the suspend feature when I close the lid? I seem to remember that this happened automatically in 9.0. Is there some file I can edit to enable this feature again? Any help anyone could give would be greatly appreciated.
  23. If you can figure out how to import the templates, I would say go for it. Don't know about the legality, though. Hey, I aim to please. Not a problem.
  24. Well, I don't use PowerPoint or Impress that much, but from what I can see, there are about 10 templates to go by, or you can create your own. Looks like it's pretty easy to use, but like I said, I don't use either program all that much. Maube someone who does could field this question a little better than I can.
