  1. Jet2k5, You will find herein attached a draw with my home network configuration. Bye
  2. Does mandrakelinux detect your printer while your are setting it up ? Verify if the service Harddrake is running. You can see this iin the System section of the Mandrake Control Center. You can also activate the logs to consult them and see what is going on when you try to set up your printer. They are in the same System section. I recommend you then to shutdown your linux box and to turn off your printer. To start your linux box and your printer and to set up the printer by 'add printer'. Bye
  3. You can also open a terminal (with the terminal program). Then execute the command su (after doing ENTER it will demand the password of root). After you execute the command kde konqueror. I recommend you this way because you will know when you have closed your konqueror session with your root profile. It comes to the terminal session when you close the konqueror session. Bye
  4. You can manage this with the Mandrake Center of Control -> Security ->Permissins. Bye
  5. If you need some documentation on how to install linux, click on this link ; http://doc.mandrivalinux.com/MandrakeLinux...n/Starter.html/ Bye.
  6. Could you tell us which is the physical and logical configuration of your network (router or modem, the role of your mandrakelinux box, connections...) ? Bye
  7. Indeed, Squid is the proxy. It will allow you to filter all you want. To work on it, go to Mandrake Center of Control -> Servers -> Set up Proxy. Bye
  8. I would suggest you more light. A beautiful and colorful lamp for exemple. Bye
  9. tible It seems that your BIOS is not taking into account your PCMCIA CDROM device. Look in the documentation of this laptop BIOS to find the solution. Mandrakelinux can not use a device not managed by the BIOS. Bye
  10. Indeed, if you can implement a router, life will be better and easier for you. The router will be the gateway and the DHCP. All your boxes will conect automatically to your network and internet. If tge router provides WIFI too, you can install your boxex anywhere at home and with a laptop you can even go to the garden with. Bye
  11. LILO allows you to choose from the boot to choose the OS you want to work with. Bye
  12. Sorry this is the one in english : http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/en/hardware.php3 Bye
  13. Go to the Mandrake Center of Control -> Material (HW) -> Material (HW) and verify if the informations correspond to those of your card. I not, I am affraid the driver for your PCMCIA card has not been developped for Mandrakelinux. Go to the website of the manufacturer to look for it. If it is not available look for it in the web with the key words mandrakelinux and the model and brand of your card. Bye.
  14. You will find the list on this link : http://www1.mandrivalinux.com/fr/hardware.php3 Bye
  15. If your gateway and DHCP server is your mandrakelinux box don't fix anything in the Xbox. They will manage alone all the allocation of parameters (dynamique IP adress, gateway...). Bye
  16. Could you tell us more about your configuration (if you have a router, how each box is connected to the network physically and logically...) ? Bye
  17. Why do you want to use the mandrakelinux box as the gateway ? Your router can certainely do it. Bye.
  18. I would recommend you to connect the built in ehetnet card (the one with the external adresse) directly to the router. The PCMCIA Ethernet card to a hub or a switch. The Win XP box connected as well to the hub or switch. The cables to use to connect the two boxes to the switch or hub should be CAT5 CABLES. Ciao
  19. It seems like if your madrakelinux box has the same IP adress of another box in the network. Your DHCP server (the modem. But I guess it is in fact a router) is set up for howmany IP adresses ? How many IP adresses are already used in the nerwork ? You can go to see this (into the webpage of your modem) with a browser of a XP box. Ciao
  20. Do all the other servers and services work (mail, web, mysql server plus its firewall...) ? All the rest is ok ? Or have you other problems too ? And which are they ? Ciao
  21. You can verify quickly if your ethernet board has been detected by mandrakelinux if you go into the Center of Control of Mandrakelinux. Then select Material and look for the Ethernet board on the list. Tell us if you see it. Ciao
  22. Could yout explain what you want to do exactly ? Bye
  23. It seems that the smb service is not running. Go into the Center of Control of Mandrakelinux. Then chosse System and after Services. You will find all the services intalled in your box. Look for SMB, start it up and click to start it from the starting up of your box. Ciao
  24. The easyest way to acces a XP folder from a linux box is to put the folders you want to share on the shared folders section of XP. Another recommendation is to put the two machines in the mdkgroup workgroup. It helps when you will import XP folders into linux via the samba mounting points. Ciao.
