  1. When I execute the command man mktemp I obtain the following options : mktemp [-q] [-u] template And in this link http://linuxcommand.org/man_pages/mktemp1.html I obtain the following options : mktemp [-V] | [-dqtu] [-p directory] [template] Why the -V and the -p options are not available with the bash delivered by Mandriva ? When I execute shells containing mktemp with the -p option they fail. What can I do to be able to make work shells using the -p option ?
  2. I guess this type of operations carried out by the BSA in Mexico may incite final users to use open source software more and more. You will find here below an abstract, I did in english for you, of the article published yesterday (6th of august 2005) by the mexican newspaper " El Universal" available in the following URL : http://estadis.eluniversal.com.mx/notas/297864.html " Last month the mexican authorities (Mexican Institute of Intelectual Ownership - IMPI) with the support of the Business Software Alliance, BSA, intensified its inspection operations into firms from the automotive, construction, private education, sport, press, and real state. These inspection operations were carried out in Mexico city and the cities at its surrounds. The inspection operations objective is to fight against the piracy of software programs. Last mont 35 firms were inspected and this inspections will be undertaken at national level in next months. The Business Software Alliance (www.bsa.org) is the most important organization dedicated to the promotion of a digital and surely legal world. The members of the BSA in Latin America include to Adobe, Apple, Autodesk, Bentley Systems, Borland, Macromedia, McAffe, Microsoft, PTC, SolidWorks, Sybase, Symantec, UGS and VERITAS Software."
  3. I do not know swat. I use webmin to administer samba. You could also use webmin. Try to find some documentation in the web on samba/webmin. It may be easier for you.
  4. I tried very hard and enthusiastically to make work, but without succes, two PCMCIA Wireless boards with my laptop : - D-LINK brand, model DWL-G650 - ASUS brand, model WL-107G There is only one board certifided or considered as compatible by Mandriva : - MSI brand, model CB11B Unfortunatelly, I can not find it anymore in the market. I have gone to many specialised shops and they do not have it. This board is considered by the sellers as obsolete. Some even laugh at me when I ask them this board. I continue to be dependent on window$ for my laptop. I wanted to get rid of but finally I can not. It is a pity because it is the only point not yet to be solved. I wonder when there will be a PCMCIA wireless board (802.11g) compatible or certified by Mandriva. If anyone knows anything about it, please let me know. Thanks in advance.
  5. OK. Should I boot the pc after the installation with MCC ? Thanks in advance.
  6. In fact, I do not have the kernel sources installed. I can see that there are two : - kernel-source-2.4.27-0.pre2.1mdk - kernel-source-2.6- 2.6.8.1-12mdk Should I installe only the second ? If both the first first ? Thanks in advance.
  7. I think the reason is that I do not have the kernel sources installed yet. I did a fresh install on my laptop yesterday because I had a very annoying problem yesterday. I have now the version 12 and not the 24 anymore. I will let you know if the reason was this.

  11. My two last posts here above have the purpose to provide the required information to better understand my next questions I post here below. I copied first all the content of the linux folder provided in the CD (I described in my last two posts here above) in /home/adolfo/DriversASUS/ Executing the ls -l commande we can see : [adolfo@192 DriversASUS]$ ls -l total 4288 -rwxrwxrwx 1 adolfo adolfo 1644 fév 20 2004 readme.txt* -rwxrwxrwx 1 adolfo adolfo 2078816 fév 11 2004 RT2500SoftAp-Linux-1.3.0.tgz* -rwxrwxrwx 1 adolfo adolfo 2295802 fév 11 2004 RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz* I tried to install this card following the SETUP SEQUENCE of the README shown in my last post here above. I then executed the command (NB. the version in the README file is 1.1.0 but physically it is 1.2.0) : tar -xvzf RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz The result is : [adolfo@192 DriversASUS]$ cd RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz bash: cd: RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz: Not a directory [adolfo@192 DriversASUS]$ tar -xvzf RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.10.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.12.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.13.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.14.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.15-greased-turkey.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.16.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.17.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.18.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.19.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.2-2.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.20.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.21.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.22.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.23.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.24.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.3.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.4.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.5.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.6.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.7-10.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.7.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.8.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.9.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc2/rt2500sta-2.4.18-3.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.18-14.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.18.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.19.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.20-8.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.20.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.21.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.22.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.23.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/gcc3/rt2500sta-2.4.24.a ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/config.mk ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/config.new ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/Configure ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/iwconfig_usage.txt ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/iwpriv_usage.txt ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/load ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/Makefile ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/oid.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/README ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/RT2500STA.dat ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rt2560.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rt_config.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_api.c ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_api.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_data.c ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_def.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_info.c ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/rtmp_main.c ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Module/unload ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/ ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/adapter.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/check16.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/handshak16.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/noactive16.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/RaConfig2500.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/radiooff.png ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/radioon.png ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/rtlogo.png ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/ico/uncheck16.xpm ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/addprofiledlg.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/addprofiledlg.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/authsecudlg.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/authsecudlg.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/cardselect.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/cardselect.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/configapi.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/configapi.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/countryform.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/countryform.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/hiddenssiddlg.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/hiddenssiddlg.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/How_To_Compile.txt ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/Makefile ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/qhexvalidator.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/qhexvalidator.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/raconfig.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/raconfig2500.pro ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/raconfigui.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/raconfigui.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/rt_tool.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/rt_tool.h ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/sha1.cpp ./RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0/Utility/sha1.h [adolfo@192 DriversASUS]$ It seems to me that every thing was already unzipped. 12. In the RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz folder we can see another folder named RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0. In this folder we can see two other folders named Module and Utility. In the utility folder we find two other folders (gcc2 and gcc3) and the following files : config.mk config.new Configure iwconfig_sge.txt iwpriv_usage.txt Module/load Makefile Module/oid.h README RT2500STA.dat rt2560.h rt_config.h rtmp_api.c rtmp_api.h rtmp_data.c rtmp_def.h Module/rtmp.h rtmp_info.c rtmp_main.c unload The README file says :
  13. I found the linux drivers files for Redhat (version after 7.1 ) in the CD (It can not be read with mandriva but with windows only) delivered with the board. Three elements can be seen when we read this CD : The readme.txt file, A folder for the board RT2500SoftAp-Linux-1.3.0.tgz A folder for the Soft AP RT2500STA-Linux-1.2.0.tgz I am only interested by the folder for the board. The README.TXT file says :
  14. I would like to install this card in my laptop to be able to connect it into my network via WIFI 108.11g. The box indicates that it supports Linux Redhat (After V7.1). After using drakconnect I obtain this : [root@portable adolfo]# drakconnect FATAL: Module rt2500 not found. FATAL: Module rt2500 not found. FATAL: Module rt2500 not found. FATAL: Module rt2500 not found.
  15. When I pick ath-pci it MCC (new wireless connection option) proposes two alternatives : 1) automatic detection 2) specify options. Choosing automatic detection does nothing. It comes back proposing to do the configuration manually. Choosing speficy options provides a screen like this : contry code : _______________________ outdoor : _______________________ xchanmode : __________________ Which could be the values I can try ? Thanks in advance.
  16. Mandrakelinux has its own backup sw. Go into the System section of MCC. You will find there the backup icon. You can do backups as you want (manual, automatic, the system only...) Cheers
  17. Thanks for your answer. I execute the command : ls /var and I did not see a folder dkms inside. Should I create it ? What should I put in ? What else should I do ? I am new in linux. Would you mind to tell me precisely (detailed) what I have to do ? Thanks in advance.
  18. Could someone tell me if the mandriva 10.1 driver for the wireless Netgear WG511v2 pcmcia card exist ? If yes, what is its name ? Thanks in advance.
  19. This is what I obtain when I execute the command : [root@192 adolfo]# dkms build -m madwifi Error! Invalid number of parameters passed. Usage: build -m <module> -v <module-version> Then I added the version of the wifi module and I obtain this : [root@192 adolfo]# dkms build -m madwifi -v 0.20040913-1mdk Error! DKMS tree does not contain: madwifi-0.20040913-1mdk Build cannot continue without the proper tree. What Could I do ? Thanks in advance.
  20. dkms and dkms-madwifi are installed. I try to configure the wifi connection on a terminal as root with drakconnect but it does not work. I have the following messages : FATAL : module ath_pci not found (4 times) Then it proposed me to select the driver. I selected madwifi and the message I obtained was : modinfo : could not find module madwifri_pci FATAL : module madwifi not found. (2 times) FATAL : module ath_pci not found (4 times) Does anyone have an idea of what I can try to make this card work ? Thanks in advance.
  21. I saw the kernel-source-2.6-2.6.8.1-24mdk is installed and that kernel-source-stripped-2.6-2.6.8.1-24mdk is not installed. What is the difference between the two ? Why a kernet-source-stripped ? Should I install the kernel-source-stripped too ? Why ? and when ? Thanks in advance
  22. Before joining mandriva on line, I installed Mandriva 10.1 with the DVD. I installed the program madwifi-0.20040913-1mdk. The up to date programs applied friday do not provide new programs or releases for madwifi. As before applying the up to dates of friday, when I want to install a new connectoin (wifi) via MCC It can not be done automatically, I then do it manually and I can see the two drivers : madwifi and ath_pci. I have tried both, but a series of messages appear very fast that I can not read them. Then the installation process proposes me once again to do it manually. This may be a bug which I have reported to bugzilla today. The wifi program is installed, the drivers seem to be present, what do you recommend me to do now ? Has anyone an idea how could I make this card work ? Thanks in advance.

    Keyboard Problems

If you can still run windows on this computer verify if the keyboard works or not with windows. If it does not, it means that the problem is the keyboard itself (batteries, beakdown...). Do you have other devices working wireless ? Sometimes each other interferes generating communication parasites. Bye.
  24. I formated the key with mandriva 10.1 and I can use it with windows XP and mandriva. Thanks to all.
  25. Last month I bought the Power Pack+ (expert) 10.1. Which I use since on a desktop PIII (it is my files server Samba too) and from this week on my laptop. Buying this package allows me to join the club and benefit of some services like on-line (up-dates...). Yesterday I bought the D-Link wifi PCMCIA card DWL-G650, I did the up-dates on the laptop from the mandriva site via the on-line services. The madwifi packages are installed. When I want to create the new connection it does not do it automatically. It proposes me to do it manually. When I choose madwifi drivers several screens appear very fast (I can not even read them) and then it proposes me once again to do it manually. What do you think I should do now ? Tanks in advance.
