  1. It's scheduled to the 4th of april but they are already 10 days late so I think it still has a month to come out. Meanwhile Stanley if you're interested you can help test Mandriva Spring RC1. There are 2 live CDs among other formats so you don't have to install it if you don't want to.
  2. AFAIK there is no 64 bit Java yet. At least not from Sun.
  3. I have /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins with lowercase m. That's where I installed the plugins. It's on a 2007 system.
  4. It's rather task-kde than kdebase.
  5. Where did 2006 stop? Was it always at the same time?
  6. No it's not. There are too many changes between the two releases. That's why the upgrade is supported only to the next release. There were two major releases between 10 and 2006 which you missed. You can do it noone is holding you back, but only at your own risk.
  7. You followed this tutorial don't you: http://java.com/en/download/help/5000010500.xml#rpm Please give us the exact commands you used during installation and where did you installed it.
  8. Only if you like to try out new things. Because KDE 4 will be out on the 23rd of October. We have plenty of time until then.
  9. Go to java.com and install Java. Or use an IRC client like xchat and join to #musb on freenode.net.

    Beryl 2.0

Complete release notes on the Beryl blog. Download.
  11. Give some details about your connection type.
  12. ...using a FreeDOS. The article is here. P.S. if FreeDOS doesn't work for you or you don't want to risk then you can go here.
  13. It seems to me this guy didn't look around at all in the Linux world. First of all Linux users are tend to voice their opinions with or without polls. And every developer knows that users want everything. Applications: writing a game is not easy not even an 2D MMORPG. And still there are a lot of games for Linux. Security: well anyone can get updates for his distro for free. Firewalls, proxy etc are in the distros for free. If someone asks for help in the forum or mailing litsts etc he'll get it. What else do this guy needs? Something to be proud of: obviously he's the only one person left who haven't heard about compiz\Beryl or Metisse and probably other 3D window managers. AFAIK Beryl even runs on FreeBSD. I guess it's a good idea not post links to "open letters".
  14. In the commentary of this week's DistroWatch Weekly, you can read about the crisis in Gentoo Linux development. The developers don't want to change the status quo and spend too much of their time with personal attacks according to the article. Because of these attacks, Daniel Robbins has left Gentoo again. It also worth reading the comments.
  15. The rc2.d directory contains the startup scripts for runlevel 2. Which is a non graphical runlevel AFAIK. The normal is runlevel 5 which is what you have. You didn't write which distro it is but I assume it's Mandriva. Mandriva is using KDM by default even if it looks like GDM. That would explain why it's not running. Did you change to GDM in the MCC. If not KDM can use GDM themes. All you have to do is install the kdmtheme package and install your new theme with it.
  16. Here's something interesting: LinuxBIOS + a Linux kernel + BusyBox + a tiny X11 server (Kdrive) + the Matchbox window manager + rxvt packed in flash ROM (2 MB). Booting time is 8 (6+2) seconds. The original article is here. You can watch a video . source: anr's blog on hup.hu

  18. http://www.turx.com/beta/gallery/planetary/planetxapo-6.jpg Thank you.
  19. You can take a look at the new theme here and here.
  20. We would greatly appreciate copy+paste error messages and more details about what you did exactly so we can help better. Anyway failed dependencies most of the time can be resolved by adding more repos. Visit the Easyurpmi link on the top of this page. Add main, main_update, contrib, contrib update and plf repos.
  21. Executable files go into /usr/bin. Check the contents of the installed BitTorrent package and the files which go into /usr/bin can be launched on console. The reason some programs not showing up in the menu is the new menu system in 2007. Not all packagers seem to use it.
