  1. You need to resetup your sources. Anorien doesn't provide a Mandriva mirror anymore.
  2. The ede package and probably libefltk had invalid Key (signature).
  3. Here's the official announcement and here's the release notes. This new edition features:
  4. You can try to request a package on the forum or in the Bugzilla but since it's a package for a very specific user base I don't know if you'll be successful. I don't think RedHat rpms will work. Compiling from source is not always difficult. The steps are usually covered in the README or INSTALL file in the source archive. See 2.5.1 How can R be installed (Unix) If you still want to install it from source then search for a Fortran compiler in the package manager and install it. There is a Fortran compiler in GCC for example. Download and unpack the archive and read the INSTALL file.
  5. It's only two bugs and an enhancement so it's not representative but I feel at least something positive is going on since the bugs are fixed and if the prompt is colored in Mandriva 2008 then you know who to blame.
  6. What's the command you use for mplayer? IIRC you have to specify if you want to use dvd subtitles (vob files). Every other subtitle file is just a text file AFAIK. In the mplayer man page you can find the -vobsub parameter. You have to use it with the full path to the file, plus the file name without the extension.
  7. I think you need an audio codec. Faad IIRC.
  8. Only time will tell but I can tell my experiences. I reported 2 bugs since the bug triage team started, well one of them was an enhancement request. Both of them were answered within a day and the bug is solved now. Also I reported a bug for the 2007 release which didn't get any response for months (ede outdated) and Adam has made a package and it's also solved. Though every bug I mentioned here was trivial and I even provided a solution when I could the response time is much better. The new Bugzilla is not just a prettier interface. If you read the blog entry in my 2nd post here about maintainer groups you can see that work could be made more effective with a well organized software.
  9. Bugzilla and maintainer groups
  10. Doesn't work here either. Does it work under other OSes?
  11. Vincent Danen started to make a new Bugzilla page. The old one got huge with time. Database is 5.2GB while the new one is 500MB so it's faster and has a cleaner interface. The old Bugzilla also has a ton of patches from Warly which nobody really knows fully now he left. You can take a look at the new Bugzilla on the test site. More on Vincent Danen's blog and Adam Williamson's blog.
  12. I don't know who counts as "senior Mandriva official" but Helio Castro will give a presentation. See adamw's very own blog
  13. I used smart on 2007 but now I find rpmdrake less and less buggier with the updates and I use it almost exclusively now. IIRC you just can't do the No 1 at least not on this version. you have to cancel update and unselect the unwanted updates and then start the update again. Also I don't know a permanent setting like that in smart for No 2. You can use File\Update selected channels instaed of just Update channels.
  14. Will HP Follow Dell With Ubuntu Linux PCs?
  15. Actually you have to click on the movie before using the keys. I don't know why it must be a bug in kmplayer cause in plain mplayer it just works. The keys are: left\right = 10 seconds forward\back up\down = 1 minute PageUp\PageDown = 10 minutes and it works much better than it worked in Kaffeine. At least for me.
  16. Maybe someday it will be solved some things already are. Like we have one common menu structure for all DEs now. Before this every DE had its own. But there are more demanding issues than an hourglass running too long.
  17. I can only guess here but I think this hourglass in KDE is purely for satisfy Windows users who doesn't get feedback in an amount of time starts to worry. It should work the way that when you launch something it starts the hourglass and this part is working as it should but when the application is actually started it should send back a message to stop the hourglass. Now this is the problematic part due to the numerous window managers, desktop environments and widget sets running on Linux. There is no unified way to do that and honestly a GNOME application developer doesn't really care about stopping the hourglass in KDE in the right time. But it works with KDE apps. I just launched Konqueror and Krusader and the hourglass did what it should started and stopped in the right time. So this is the reason IMHO why is there an hourglass long after MCC actually started.
  18. Although I'm not affiliated with Mandriva in any way I think I can answer that. PCLinuxOS is just a hobby distro in the end. There's no company behind it which means there's no one to sue or at least nobody worth to sue. So they just let them be and don't care about them until PCLinuxOS becomes a company and starts to sell services boxed products etc. A part of these proprietary stuff can be legally packaged in the distro eg. nvidia driver. A part not eg. most of the codecs. Mandriva doesn't package these things into the free version because that version is free as in freedom not just as in beer plus they have to give something to their paying customers. The situation is improved though since the proprietary stuff was available only in plf before.

  20. 2.6.22-ck1 will be the last -ck ever. For those who don't know, ck is a patchset made by Con Kolivas. This patchset is "designed to improve system responsiveness with specific emphasis on the desktop, but suitable to any workload." Although Con Kolivas gave no reason whatsoever, you can find some speculation in the wiki. source: hup.hu
  21. I was slightly wrong with the name. Search for kde-icons-IcOsX-0.7-2plf.noarch.
