Mandriva 2010.0 is available

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have dowloaded the version 10.0 overnight from the official Mandriva website (via torrent). Nothing about it here nor on distrowatch, strange isn't it?

@sjaglin- I've moved your post to this topic

Here's the official announcement from the cooker mailing list:

Mandriva Linux 2010, code name Adelie is out!

Many thanks to all of you who made this new version a success. Isos and

rpms trees are now available on public mirrors. You will find "mandriva

Seed" in isos diretory so that you can install all Mandriva 2010 isos

from USB key.

Anne of Mandriva says that the Website will be updated once the Powerpack Edition is released. Had a couple of bugs to sort out apparently. Powerpack is supposed to be released sometime today. In other words: "We will sell no wine before it's time." ;)

are you talking about mandrake 10.0 or mandriva 2010.0?

It seems that the Free-Dual is not a hybrid ISO so you can't use Mandriva-seed to write it to a USB drive.

dd should still work with it though.

I have already installed it and also helped spread the news:

I must say, my first impression is very positive, KDE 4.3.2 is starting to be good enough to be a valid substitute for KDE 3.5 and Pulseaudio seems to work without problems so far (unlike in every other distro I tried so far).

Well on the whole I found the install a pleasing experience and the distribution a good one. However I have come across what seems to be a broken hal-daemon. It fails to mount the cdrom's. Whilst it identifies that a cd/dvd has been inserted the only option given is to copy with k3b. I am unable to mount either of my dvd writers no matter what I try. I have had a good look on the Mandriva website and found a good few posts about the problem but mainly about usb devices. There is no entries in the logs either, so I am a bit stuck with this one. I'll keep trying though.

Have you added the PLF repos yet and installed libdvdcss? When I insert a DVD I get the option to play it with Dragon Video player (in KDE4) and playback works fine.

Should be a HAL issue, since we had some of the same in ArchLinux.

I guess nobody really cares about HAL issues/bugs, since it will be soon deprecated - it already has in *buntu 9.10, where it's replaced by DeviceKit. The latter ain't perfect, but surely enough is better documented and slightly easier to write rules for it.

I think you are right there Scarecrow. I have it working somewhat now, don't ask me how as I don't know what I did. It's still hit & miss with ordinary cd's but dvd's are ok.
