Interesting I might fill in some gaps I have in my collection..:D

Nothing rude about asking :) I'm trying to help a user on another forum get his nvidia card working again on his Mandrake 9.2 install. He needs 9.2 because it supports a particular printer. Just wanted to go through the install and refresh my memory so I can guide him should re-installing be the only option left.

I don't see me-tv in the repos, so I can only assume you must have installed it from source. Should you decide to go down that route again, here is a list of packages you will definitely need for a successful compile: libglibmm2.4-devel - Provides = glibmm-2.4 & giomm-2.4 libxml++2.6-devel - Provides = libxml++-2.6 libgtkmm2.4-devel - Provides = gtkmm-2.4 libgconfmm2.6-devel - Provides = gconfmm-2.6 libunique-devel - Provides = unique-1.0 libxine-devel - Provides = libxine libvlc-devel - Provides = libvlc libgstreamer0.10-devel - Provides = gstreamer-0.10 libgstreamer-plugins-base0.10-devel - Provides = gstreamer-interfaces-0.10 I occasionally compile packages so it's possible you may need other *devel packages in addition to those listed above. If you have any problems / error messages you can't resolve, post an output here and I'll try to assist. Good Luck :)

Maybe running the latest version me-tv-2.0.1 might solve your problem.

Same here John, just waiting for the final before deciding if Mandriva continues to be my main distro of choice. I'm looking forward to giving Mageia a spin outside of virtualbox. :)

Sure once you can stomach that horrid menu, I'm sure there are things worth looking at. My one and only issue at the moment is that menu interface, as long as it can be disabled I'll be happy.

Are they serious about that interface? It's horrid. I truly hope there is the option to kick that into touch. What is going through their minds I just couldn't even bring myself to continue looking at the rest of the system. Pass me the bucket, I feel ill.

If Johns suggestion doesn't work a good trick is in Power Management: Under Settings and Profile Disable Let PowerDevil manage screen powersaving. Under Profile Assignment. When the power adaptor is plugged in. Set it to Presentation mode. See if that helps, it does for me.

Or even: System Settings--> Advanced tab--> Session Manager.

Even if KDE is the main environment, you can replace it with Gnome.

Now I'm confused :huh: I thought the problem was that you couldn't install hplip 3.10.9 from the package downloaded from the sourceforge site. Once libusb-compat0.1-devel is present the build moves past the libusb error stage. From what I saw during the install of hplip 3.10.9 an attempt is made to communicate with the printer.

You need to install the libusb-compat0.1-devel package for the compile/build to go ahead. It's available in the repos. The script will also warn you that you are missing 'optional' dependencies. I'll list them here, if they are of no importance then there's no need to install them prior to installing HPLIP 3.10.9 I hope this helps. :)

 What makes you think you have been breached?  Do your logs show anything?  What's the name of the trojan?  If you want assistance you should post your evidence. Saves us asking a load of (possibly) unnecessary questions.  We might get to the bottom of it more quickly.Â

Yes, a nice alternative to using 'vi' which is overkill for the simple amounts of config editing that I do. Â I used to use JOE mostly prior to using nano. Â I had issues with it when editing on remote systems via ssh.

A very good point.  At least that fits in with the way things have been going at Mandriva.  Do they have the skills required to be so devious! B)

I agree... It's about time 'WE' as a community adopted a wait-and-see policy in some instances before voicing their FUD (the KDE4 fiasco for example). Â Maybe we do need distro consolidation, maybe we don't, I don't think there will be a consensus on that any time soon. Â Instead, let's offer encouragement and support to those who are prepared and committed enough to devote their time (whether it be free, paid or volunteered) Â to bring us something that they think is needed/missing. Â Personally I think It's a credit to the openness of GNU/Linux that if a person (or persons), a company (or companies) drop the ball or lose direction, there are those willing to step up and try to put things back on track according to consumer wants/needs. Ironically concerns about the future of Mandriva were voiced when Adam and others were summarily dismissed despite their valuable and needed contributions. Â I never could understand how a company that has such a great product can be so ignorant about it's employees, it's customers and the community. Question: Do the management at Mandriva really not have a clue about how business works?Â
