  1. You could try the 'eject' command, that might spit the disk out. eject /dev/sda4.
  2. I've not noticed any major problems with compiz-fusion. From time to time my window decorations tend to crash that's all.
  3. Check your firewall settings. Do Alt & F2, type mcc, click run then input your root password. Goto Security--> Setup your personal firewall.
  4. For your mobile phone, give kmobiletools a try: http://www.kmobiletools.org/
  5. *Expletive* good review. Screenshots are informative. You covered things that I've wondered about but never really had the time to try out. Your rant ( I prefer to see it as a 'Heads Up'), is spot on. There were a few typo's but I had so much fun reading your review I lost where they are. Very well done, this makes it into my bookmarks. On a tux rating of 1 to 5, I give it :tux: :tux: 's. Well done
  6. It would be helpful if you listed the things you have tried a reinstall might not be needed. Just in case you haven't tried resetting your desktop to the default. Start a konsole session and type: mv .kde kdeold press enter, then log out and log back in again. Anything you wish to retrieve can be found in your kdeold folder.
  7. The following is not a criticism. You say but the heading says it's a walk through of the 2008.0 installation. Indeed the screenshots do confirm a 2008.0 install. The other thing that hits me is this sentence reads better as I have installed and ran it on my laptop. An excellent visual guide though.
  8. Webcollage is a screensaver module in the xscreensaver package, not a stand-alone program.
  9. I agree, this is what you get when you offer an O.S.F.A. (one size fits all) operating system.
  10. I mean no disrespect, it's just a term used for people who like to look at code, for whatever reason :)
  11. If you already have GNU/Linux installed XP will overwrite the grub bootloader.
  12. Check out the package manager and see what other KDE4 packages are available for install.
  13. Plus, due to the nature of GNU/Linux being mostly open source, it's very difficult to hide anything malicious amongst the code. Even if something is somehow hidden, it is soon discovered (by code monkeys) and dealt with.
  14. I don't remember ever being offered the option of using SQLite or MySQL on first run. I do know that the option to switch to one or the other used to be in the 'collection' section. I've been told if you compile it yourself you can compile with the option to use MySQL.
  15. It uses SQLite by default. It used to show what database it was using, now I don't see it anywhere! Strange. My collection is over 250Gb, the only problem I have is when I'm searching for particular tracks or artists, the interface freezes for a while while it parses the info. It's just called MySQL.
  16. In Open Office the language is set under Tools--> Options (the last choice in the tools menu)--> Language Settings--> Languages. Check the User Interface & the Locale setting.
  17. Open Office takes its language settings from your locale settings. Check your locale settings in KDE Control Centre--> Regional & Accessibility--> Country/Region & Language.
  18. Install this package kdmtheme. Then open your KDE Control Centre go to System Administration you will see KDM Theme Manager. You can use that to install and change your login manager themes. No need to unpack the theme first, just select the downloaded theme tar file with the KDM Theme Manager and away you go. :)
  19. Please post how you solved it, to help others who may have the same problem. :)
  20. Have you tried a regular commercial vcd? Maybe it only has problems playing your 'home brew'
  21. I have no solution, but I can confirm the fish command is working correctly on all my mandy boxes.
  22. Unhide it (Control Centre==> Desktop--> Panels--> Hiding tab) and use the left or right hiding function instead. There's also the Raise when the pointer touches the screen's: function.
  23. No need to type in any code (unless you want to). Here is a nice starting point for you: http://wiki.mandriva.com/en/Docs/Basic_tas...moving_software and this one will help you to set up your Mandriva to (newbie) perfection: http://www.howtoforge.com/the_perfect_desk...mandriva_2008.0
  24. To reboot from commandline, as root type: reboot. To shutdown, again as root type: shutdown -h now. I think Alt+Ctrl+Del will also perform a gracefull shutdown. You could always try using top to locate and kill the process(es) preventing you from shutting down.
