Hi all, I wonder if someone can help me on this... I am trying to install Mandriva 2006 DVD issue onto a laptop I have. The laptop doesnt have any DVD drives so I decided to try a network install (plus I have no blank cdrs) OK so I have copied the entire DVD to a folder on the FTP server (on DMZ using Serv-U on a WinXP box IP 192.168.0.2) I then found a cdrw which I promptly installed the boot.iso onto. So my problem is this. The laptop connects to the FTP server no problem but just before it loads the GUI on the laptop I see an error Version file missing it then goes into partioning which I do. Hi to check if your driver supports monitor mode do the following: [root@whatever]:/home/anindya>iwpriv eth1 eth1 Available private ioctl : force_reset (8BE0) : set 0 & get 0 card_reset (8BE1) : set 0 & get 0 set_port3 (8BE2) : set 1 int & get 0 get_port3 (8BE3) : set 0 & get 1 int set_preamble (8BE4) : set 1 int & get 0 get_preamble (8BE5) : set 0 & get 1 int set_ibssport (8BE6) : set 1 int & get 0 get_ibssport (8BE7) : set 0 & get 1 int monitor (8BE8) : set 2 int & get 0 dump_recs (8BFF) : set 0 & get 0 Basically if you don't see monitor in this list, you'll need to patch your driver or get another one. To enable monitor mode manually (I looked at the kismet_monitor program to get this): /sbin/iwpriv $DEVICE monitor 1 $CHANNEL

Hi, For it to work with driverloader means that the driver you supplied is working & should work with ndiswrapper. If you still want to use ndiswrapper (after your 30 days trial ends!!) I would recommend that you uninstall the version you have & download the most recent version (1.7, I think) then try again.. HTH

I had similar problems with my cdrw/dvd & file permissions. I found by removing the cd then booting into the OS thus creating a new fstab. Then powering down reinstall the cd & boot back into the OS. This now all works fine.. HTH

Hi all, I normally use ghost to backup my 2005 LE & when needed I reinstall the backup do a quick rescue, reinstall bootloader & away I go. I have since upgraded KDE to 3.5 along with other bits & bobs that needed it including the kernel. So this time I go to re-install the bootloader & I get an error something like Echo | lilo with root /mnt run_program cannot output in /root/tmp/.drakx-stderr.1188 (Mode '>') lilo failed: at /usr/lib/libDrakX/bootloader.pm line 1239 <SRDIN> line 1 then something about mandriva-release Any ideas how I can get back lilo to run & fix the bootloader? TIA Edit: OK I manage to figure out that if I boot off the Mandriva > rescue, then mount /mnt, then chroot /mnt, then run lilo all is well... :D

What file format are you using for the USB (fat, fat32, ntfs, etc..)

yeah I saw that while googling.. not really what im after This should be fine as Im already using this kinda setup with my Matrox card. Maybe I didnt make myself clear. Im using quad-head card setup with 2 monitors in dual setup. I want the same but using 2 cards instead of the Matrox.. TIA

Hi all, I have STF along with google but not had any real luck. I at the moment have a Matrox 200MMS (quad-head) running fine under Mandriva 2006, using 2 dell 17¨ TFT monitors. The problem is that each head only has 8mb which sometimes can be a pain if say Im running rdp on 1 screen & firefox on the other. So I looked around & found 2 other video cards I have (32mb Nvidia PCI & 16mb ATI AGP). I was wondering (like you do!!) if it would be possible to install both cards & run a similar setup (independant KDE sessions) & if it would be worthwhile with regards to performance.. also if it would be possible could someone point me in the right direction as how to achieve this TIA

Also have you tried to give the card a static IP & see from there?

Hi do you get a splash screen before X starts? good.. have you tried running glxgears from the command line & all was well? good.. I would start supertux from the CLI & then see if any errors are reported.. HTH

I do use CLI when I really have to (ssh & rdesktop spring to mind) but find remembering the input to be an issue (luckly BASH remembers better than me..) I think its a bit like DNS & IP addresses, where we prefer to type www.easy-to-remember.com instead of 123.123.123.123. The CLI commands I use on a regular basis I have created short-cuts & much prefer to click ´n´ go... Then again typing ¨urpmi give-me-that-software¨ is much quicker than clicking through mcc to get the same results... :D

Just to pitch in... I found 5.5 alot better. In Linux you can now have bridge mode on a wireless card which I find valuable & the sound is a lot better now in your image OS well in mine it is ..

Restarting X should suffice, so a reboot will be fine. Check your /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any errors... HTH

Same here, couldn´t get dual setup with a Matrox MMS 200 Quad & latest Xorg. So never really tested anything else out. Put my trusty 2005 LE HD back in, updated KDE to 3.4 & will wait for Matrox to bring a new driver out...

I have to agree with your statement. IMHO the xorg-cvs is to bleeding-edge stuff & most third parties are still using modules geared towards xorg 6.8. For instance I can't use dual monitor setup with Matrox's drivers because of the new module system xorg-cvs has.... maybe being shot is a bit much though... B)

Thanks for the reply & heres my post Matrox Thanks for the advice. What I have settled for is: I've backed up & kept my reliable 2005 LE & updated KDE from my 2006 powerpack. All went as smooth as can be expected!! I then installed 2006 on another HD & configured all that I could in anticipation for the new drivers from Matrox ( I was very impressed with NDISwrapper which worked first time with my USR PCI wireless card & the start up times for 2006 are great). So Im on 2005 for now.. Thanks again..

<< bump >> anyone. What ive tried is to uninstall the current Xorg but it wants to uninstall heaps of other stuff, like Lisa? aggregator? etc... which has then stopped me in my tracks..

As a matter of interest does anyone know the best way to do this? (uninstall X-server that came with 2006 & install the same that 2005 uses) TIA

Just a quick update. I have been told by Matrox that for now I have to install the X server that comes with 2005 as the server in 2006 has changed in a few ways one of which is the drivers ending in ".so" as opposed to ".o" So for now anyone wishing to have dual heads or more will need to wait for an update from Matrox or install X server from 2005... I will try this (maybe!) in the near future & let you know how I got on...

Hi all... I have installed 2006.0 on an old HD (I'm using 2005 at the mo', & have twin monitors setup using the drivers from Matrox mga_drv_o & mga_hal_drv.o which all work fine) On reboot after setting the Matrox g200 mms video card to run heads independantly I only get the primary monitor working. The secondary will not initailise. I then copied over the two drivers from Matrox but noticed that the drivers already there end in ".so" & not ".o". This didn't work either. checking my Xorg.0.log doesn't really give me any clues as to what is going on. The obvious though is that the Xorg drivers are loading & not the drivers from Matrox. I have also posted on their forum but as anyone who uses their forum will know that they LOCK their forums during the weekend!!! any help, pointers will be greatly appreciated... TIA

At the terminal type XFdrake then go through the process of adding your card etc.. also remember to agree to the gui starting on reboot. I think maybe when you changed your resolution you didnt tell it to restart on reboot (gui) HTH
